  • Proceedings of the 21st Student Conference in Interaction Technology and Design
  • 2021
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Student Conference in Interaction Technology and Design is the annual grand finale of the course Current Topic in Interaction Technology and Design at the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics, Umeå University, Sweden. The main objective of the course is to give the participants a forum, where they can actively discuss scientific research and development through the implementation of their own ideas and interests. The course introduces students to independently finding and researching a topic of interest for them, finding related sources of information and related research publications, writing a scientific article, peer-reviewing, and presenting their work at a conference. The course is conducted in English which is a foreign language for most of the students. The final examination format is chosen as a conference to provide a realistic environment for the presentation of the results. The work of each student has been reviewed by other participants on the course and members of the department acting not only as teachers and consultants but also as program committee members. If the reviews are favorable, the paper is accepted as a full paper at the conference and included in the proceedings.

  • STPIS 2015: Socio-Technical Perspective in IS Development. Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Socio-Technical Perspective in IS Development (STPIS'15) co-located with the 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE 2015)
  • 2015
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • * This workshop’s long term goal is to foster a community of Information Systems researchers and practitioners who are interested in the socio-technical perspective and see it as an important approach to improve the quality and reduce the costs of the information systems that have become an essential part of our lives in this 21st century. All communities need meeting places where they can discuss and debate existential issues. These workshop proceedings are the first attempt to set a broad platform for discussion and debate on the benefits and problems of viewing information systems as socio-technical artefacts. * In the first presentation session of the workshop, we look at education, tools and terminology. There are a number of questions asked and answered. Can we mix ethnographic educations with engineering education? What should be included in a good socio-technical analyst’s tools box? Are the terms that both practitioners and theoreticians use when discussing a socio-technical perspective correct or incorrect or are they just out of date for modern organizations and businesses? * In the second session, we have two papers that consider the socio-technical perspective as a collaborations and coordination constituent of a system. That is to say the socio-technical perspective is seen as an independent variable and the performance outcome of the work system in focus as the dependent variable. The third paper in this session views the topic from a work-system lens. * In the third session we asks more fundamental questions as to the nature of mind and organization of work. One paper questions whether the socio-technical perspective affects the mind or the mind is affected by the socio-technical perspective. * The last session of the workshop and the post session are called diverse issues and is designed to capture both the breadth and depth of socio-technical perspective. * All and all, these first workshop proceedings have hopefully set a good broad base for discussion and debate on the strength and weakness of a socio-technical perspective in the information systems research and teaching domain. * The organizers are grateful to the members of Program Committee for their excellent work of reviewing submitted papers in short time. We are also thankful to Easy-Chair for providing us with a tool to manage the workshop free of charge. Many thanks to Jeffy Mwakalinga who undertook the task of preparing and submitting the proceedings to CEUR. Stockholm June 1, 2015 STPIS’15 organizers Stewart Kowalski Peter Bednar Ilia Bider

  • Interactive Storytelling : 15th International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling, ICIDS 2022, Santa Cruz, CA, USA, December 4–7, 2022, Proceedings
  • 2022
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This volume constitutes the proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling (ICIDS 2022). ICIDS is the premier conference for researchers and practitioners concerned with studying digital interactive forms of narrative from avariety of perspectives, including theoretical, technological, and applied design lenses. The annual conference is an interdisciplinary gathering that combines technology focused approaches with humanities-inspired theoretical inquiry, empirical research, and artistic expression. This year’s conference was built around the central theme of ‘Speculative Horizons’. With this theme we were motivated to consider the future and its relationship to interactive digital storytelling.

  • Advances in Social Simulation : Proceedings of the 18th Social Simulation Conference, Glasgow, UK, 4–8 September 2023
  • 2024
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This book contains the proceedings of the 18th Social Simulation Conference (SSC) and covers the state of the art of social simulation modeling. The SSC is the annual conference of the European Social Simulation Association (ESSA) and the major global conference devoted to this topic. It is aimed at promoting social simulation and computational social science. The book is the biggest collection of agent-based modeling research. It covers all aspects of modeling, from theory and philosophy of modeling to question of model design, purpose, and structure, using data, visualization, model interrelation, and open modeling. This book is targeted at researchers in social simulation regardless of disciplinary backgrounds, across career stages and different sectors, such as academia, industry, and policy

  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • GRASP (Group and Social Psychology) is an interdisciplinary conference, which aims to provide a community around social psychological issues for researchers, practitioners, and graduate students from the Nordic countries within the fields of psychology, sociology, education, behavioural sciences and social work to share, exchange, learn, and develop preliminary results, new concepts, ideas, principles, and methodologies, as well as bridging the gaps between paradigms, encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations, and advancing our understanding of groups and social psychology.GRASP 2014 was the ninth Nordic conference was held in Linköping and hosted by the Department of Behavioural Sciences and Learning at Linköping University. The theme of the conference this year was on inclusion and exclusion as social processes. Twenty-two papers were accepted and presented at the conference. Keynote speech was given by Dr Siân Jones from Oxford Brookes University and Dr Ken Mavor from University of St Andrews. In line with the main theme of the conference, Siân Jones talked about “Bullying and belonging: Experimental data, real-world data, tears, and tantrums”. Ken Mavor talked about “Encapsulating the things that matter: Exploring identities for learning, social action and wellbeing”.The topics of the individual papers at GRASP 2014 were: (a) the role of categorization in personal change through participation in collective action, (b) students’ perspectives on bullying incidents, (c) mindfulness in values education in schools, (d) team-training and the executive team’s organizational influence, (e) using discursive psychology to show how students do ‘being collaborative’ in group work, (f) operational leadership and knowledge-transfer in high risk operations, (g) communication of risk in oil and gas megaprojects, (h) verbal expressions of “compassion” in an academic context, (i) a descriptive study of work groups in the Swedish and U.S. economy, (j) challenges and panaceas, as experienced by physicians, when introducing a patient centred and team based round, (k) leadership and communication in cross-cultural teams in a study of Korean/Scandinavian collaboration, (l) conscientiousness and agreeableness among prisoners, (m) ‘dark values’ – the dark triad hiding in Schwartz’ value orientation, (n) gender and legitimacy in student project groups, (o) between Skylla and Karybdis within academia – peer leadership or management, (p) illusion of invulnerability, need for cognition and resisting persuasion, (q) the significance of management climate on the quality of elderly care, (r) benevolence towards men and women, and traditional views of upbringing – a backlash to gender equality, (s) the role of equality in the decision making process in small groups, (t) bullying and defender behaviour amongst school children – the importance of moral emotions and moral disengagement, and (u) development of learning models through social experiments considering widening recruitment of university students. These proceedings bring you seven of the 22 papers from the conference.
