  • ANNIE, a Tool for Integrating Ergonomics in the Design of Car Interiors
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: SAE technical paper series. - 400 Commonwealth Drive, Warrendale, PA, United States : SAE International. - 0148-7191. ; 108:5, s. 1114-1124
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the ANNIE project - Applications of Neural Networks to Integrated Ergonomics - BE96-3433, a tool for integrating ergonomics into the design process is developed. This paper presents some features in the current ANNIE as applied to the design of car interiors. A variant of the ERGOMan mannequin with vision is controlled by a hybrid system for neuro-fuzzy simulation. It is trained by using an Elite system for registration of movements. An example of a trajectory generated by the system is shown. A fuzzy model is used for comfort evaluation. An experiment was performed to test its feasibility and it showed very promising results.

  • Preferred car driving posture using 3-D information
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Vehicle Design. - : InderScience Publishers. - 0143-3369 .- 1741-5314. ; 42:1/2, s. 154-169
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Few studies have presented three-dimensional car-driving postural information. This laboratory study investigated drivers' preferred postures, preferred interior dimensions and how they characterise their postures. The minimum-maximum intervals of preferred angles corresponded well with other experimental studies and were larger than intervals for comfort, strength and alertness defined on the basis of theoretical reasoning. No preferred posture differences were found between females and males; nor were differences found when comparing posture after five and twenty minutes of driving. Preferred posture was not symmetric: significant differences were found between the left and right side. Subjects characterised their posture as comfortable, relaxing and restful.

  • Deploying Goals and Measuring Efficiency in an Academic Organisation. A Pilot Study
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Building People and Organizational Excellence. ; , s. 342-346
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In many organizations it is considered of vital importance to translate its vision and strategy into objectives, to determine the best means of achieving these and to review the results – with participation from all members, from management to shop floor. The objective of this study was to make a first test of a method that could be applied for verbalizing and communicating a common vision and identify critical objectives concentrating on nonfinancial measures in an academic research organization. Being a rather heterogeneous multidisciplinary centre the focus was on critical issues, which could promote organizational alignment. Three different systems that could be applicable were identified: Balanced Scorecard, hoshin kanri and ProMES. A design team was formed to formulate objectives and measurements. They found that it was a far from easy task to identify relevant objectives for the organization and especially to establish their different importance. The discussions led to a more common view and agreement about issues that had to be given more attention.

  • Safety Culture Onboard Ships
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IEA 2000/HFES 2000 Congress. ; 4, s. 4-322
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A project focusing on identifying and describing maritime risks is being conducted in the heavily trafficked water area of the Sound, situated in northern Europe between Sweden and Denmark. This paper reports of a test of a first version of a questionnaire constructed for measuring safety culture onboard vessels.48 crew members on a Swedish registered passenger/cargo ship completed and returned the questionnaire. The crew members were able to complete the questionnaire with few unanswered questions. Acceptable homogeneity was obtained for all but one of the nine dimensions of safety culture. Significant differences on several of the safety culture dimensions were found between deck/engine vs catering personnel, men vs women and different age groups, while little differences were found for supervisors vs non-supervisors or people with varying number of years onboard. Such safety culture dimensions need to be studied in relation to reports of accidents and near-misses, to further study the true relevance of safety culture.

  • Improvements at Work. A Multi-Disciplinary Research and Dissemination Programme
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Logistik und Arbeit. ; :9/10.97 März, s. 39-41
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Contemporary organizations have begun to realize that competitive power and sustainability emanates to a large extent from their flexibility and ability to adapt to increasingly more rapid changes in the environment. Therefore, change and development processes are ever more tending to become oriented towards both making critical processes visible and flexible and organizing for continuous learning from experiences in day-to-day work. These experiences form the basis of both continuous improvement activities and innovations. Working life research has an important role to play in the renewal of change and development processes. Multidisciplinary research programmes contribute to quality, knowledge enhancement and the ongoing exchange of experiences in this process.. In this paper, such a programme, Improvements at Work, along with its theoretical foundations, research methods and dissimination activities, is described. Furthermore, examples of ongoing studies are presented. The two accompanying articles, present some of the individual research topics within the programme.
