  • IncogniSense: An anonymity-preserving reputation framework for participatory sensing applications
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: 2012 IEEE International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communications (PerCom). - : Elsevier. ; 9:3, s. 353-371
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Reputation systems are fundamental for assessing the quality of user contributions in participatory sensing. However, naively associating reputation scores to contributions allows adversaries to establish links between multiple contributions and thus de-anonymize users. We present the IncogniSense framework as a panacea to these privacy threats. IncogniSense utilizes periodic pseudonyms generated using blind signature and relies on reputation transfer between these pseudonyms. Simulations are used to analyze various reputation cloaking schemes that address the inherent trade-off between anonymity protection and loss in reputation. Our threat analysis confirms the robustness of IncogniSense and a prototype demonstrates that associated overheads are minimal.

  • Changing from a product to a process perspective for service improvements in a manufacturing company
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: The TQM Journal. - : Emerald. - 1754-2731 .- 1754-274X. ; 22:1, s. 26-40
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    •   Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate service improvements in a manufacturing context. Design/methodology/approach – Action research at the gas turbine manufacturer Siemens was performed during a five-year period. In addition, 336 fault reports sent to the service division concerning severity, cost, and occurrence were analyzed. Findings – When moving from a fire-fighting culture to a proactive culture, a company needs to change from a product to a process perspective. The benefit of changing from a product to a process perspective is the change in focus from reduction of internal costs to value creation through service delivery. Practical implications – This paper shows how feedback from dissatisfied customers can be used as a driving factor in process improvements. Based on this knowledge, a company can select the most important Six Sigma projects to improve their service processes. The change from a product to a process perspective shows that traditionally the severity of almost 50 percent of all faults is underestimated. Originality/value – The paper provides a number of fruitful insights on how to work with service improvements in manufacturing companies.

  • Competitive advantage through service differentiation by manufacturing companies
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 64:12, s. 1270-1280
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper examines the relationship among the complexity of customer needs, customer centricity, innovativeness, service differentiation, and business performance within the context of companies that have made a service transition from pure goods providers to service providers. A survey of 332 manufacturing companies provides the basis for the empirical investigation. One key finding is that a strong emphasis on service differentiation can lead to a manufacturing firms strategies for customer centricity being less sensitive to increasingly complex customer needs, which can increase a firms payoff for customer centricity. In contrast, the payoff from innovativeness appears to be higher if the firm focuses its resources on either product or service innovation; that is, a dual focus does not work well. This paper discusses the implications of these findings for researchers and managers.

  • Customer co-creation in service innovation: a matter of communication?
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of Service Management. - Bingley, UK : Emerald. - 1757-5818 .- 1757-5826. ; 23:3, s. 311-327
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose - Customer co-creation is becoming increasingly popular among companies, and intensive communication with customers is generally seen as a determinant of the success of a new service or product. The purpose of this study is to analyze customer co-creation based on four dimensions of communication - frequency, direction, modality, and content - in order to understand the value of customer co-creation in service innovation. One of the key aims of the study is to investigate whether all dimensions of customer co-creation have an effect on product and market success, and if the effect depends on the degree of innovativeness of a development project. Design/methodology/approach - The authors conducted a study including 334 managers with experience in new service and product development to examine how development projects applied customer co-creation in terms of communication in order to address future customer needs. Data were analyzed using partial least squares (PIS). The first analysis was performed with a sub-sample of 207 development projects regarding incremental innovations. A subsequent analysis was performed with a sub-sample of 77 development projects on radical innovations. Findings - A total of three of the four dimensions of customer co-creation (frequency, direction, and content) have a positive and equally significant effect on product success when developing incremental innovations. For radical innovations, frequency has a positive effect and content has a negative significant effect on product success. These findings suggest that co-creation and innovation can be combined, but that the choice of methods for co-creation differs depending on whether incremental or radical innovations are developed. Originality/value - Despite a general consensus that co-creation with customers is beneficial, there is a lack of agreement regarding how and why. The present article addresses this shortcoming and shows that co-creation is largely about communicating with customers in order to understand their future needs. On the other hand, a company working on radical innovations may wish to limit customer input that is too concrete or solution based.

  • STM study of the surface defects of the (v3×v3)-Sn/Si(1 1 1) surface
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Surface Science. - : Elsevier. - 0039-6028 .- 1879-2758. ; 475:1-3, s. 181-193
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The (v3×v3)-Sn/Si(1 1 1) surface has been studied with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and Auger electron spectroscopy, and it is found that it contains basically five different types of defects originating from substitutional atoms and vacancies. The influence the defects have on their immediate neighbourhood is investigated and found to extend to the third nearest (v3×v3) adatom neighbour. Close to some defect constellations, a very local (3×3) periodicity in the apparent height in the STM images is found. This periodicity is shown to be a linear superposition of the perturbations generated by the individual defects in the constellations. The superposition of the height modulation is accurate and linear for a wide range of tip biases, as for combinations of different types of defects. Its linearity is explained in terms of small perturbations in the surface electronic structure. We also provide an explanation why the linearity breaks down when large perturbations are probed with small tip biases.

  • Surface structure of Si(100) with submonolayer coverages of C
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Metallurgical and materials transactions. B, process metallurgy and materials processing science. - : Elsevier. - 1073-5615 .- 1543-1916. ; 89:1-3, s. 415-419
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report a combined STM, LEED and AES study of Si(100) surfaces prepared by coevaporation from two MBE-sources with Si and SiC, respectively. The flux from the SiC source contains 10% C, enabling studies of deposited layers with C-concentrations in the range 0-10%. After room temperature deposition, the structures have been annealed at 600 °C to generate a c(4 × 4) reconstruction. This has previously been reported to contain from 0.0 to 0.5 monolayers (ML) of C. Annealing at 800 °C irreversibly transforms the c(4 × 4) surface to a 2 × 1-reconstructed surface that contains precipitates of SiC. Since only 0.07 ML of C is needed to have 98% of the surface covered with the c(4 × 4) reconstruction, we conclude that the c(4 × 4) reconstruction is impurity-induced rather than having C-atoms in well defined positions within each unit cell. The c(4 × 4) reconstruction is attributed to a basic structure containing buckled parallel ad-dimers, which in approximately 50% of the reconstructed unit cells is decorated with perpendicular dimers. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. • Transfer of knowledge in technical vocational education: a narrative study in Swedish upper secondary school
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International journal of technology and design education. - : Springer Verlag (Germany). - 0957-7572 .- 1573-1804. ; 23:3, s. 519-535
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In vocational education, teaching and learning are expected to take place in the different learning arenas; schools and workplaces. In such a dual school system, the question of transfer is vital, i.e. how to use knowledge learned in previous situations in new situations. This article is an empirical contribution to research concerning transfer, by means of results from semi-structured group interviews with teachers and supervisors who educate students in the Energy program and the Industry program in Swedish upper secondary school. The interviews were analysed by analyses of narratives. The results show four themes of transfer in the interviews: (1) transfer of basic knowledge, (2) transfer of principles and skills, (3) transfer of written materials and real life and (4) transfer of experiences. The results also show three factors that are crucial in order to create possibilities for transfer: (1) communication, (2) financial resources and (3) reflection. These factors demand close cooperation between the teachers and supervisors during the students vocational education.

  • Privacy, Security and Trust in Cloud Computing : The Perspective of the Telecommunication Industry
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Ubiquitous Intelligence & Computing and 9th International Conference on Autonomic & Trusted Computing (UIC/ATC), 2012. - : IEEE COMPUTER SOC. - 9781467330848 - 9780769548432 ; , s. 627-632
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The telecommunication industry has been successful in turning the Internet into a mobile service and stimulating the creation of a new set of networked, remote services. In this paper we argue that embracing cloud computing solutions is fundamental for the telecommunication industry to remain competitive. However, there are legal, regulatory, business, market-related and technical challenges that must be considered. In this paper we list such challenges and define a set of privacy, security and trust requirements that must be taken into account before cloud computing solutions can be fully integrated and deployed by telecommunication providers.

  • Electronic structure of H/Ge(111)1×1 studied by angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - : American Physical society. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 80:19, s. 193403-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The electronic structure of H/Ge(111)1×1 was investigated using angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy. Spectra were measured along the high-symmetry lines of the 1×1 surface Brillouin zone. In the Γ̅ −K̅ −M̅ direction, two surface states, labeled a and a′, were found in the lower and upper band-gap pockets. The a and a′ surface states are associated with the Ge-H bonds and the Ge-Ge backbonds, respectively. In the Γ̅ −M̅ direction, only the Ge-H surface state, a, can be identified. It is found in the band-gap pocket around the M̅ point. The two hydrogen-induced surface states on H/Ge(111)1×1 show strong similarities with the corresponding surface states on H/Si(111)1×1. Results from H/Ge(111)1×1 and H/Si(111)1×1 are compared in this Brief Report.
