Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
- Article omission is a well-documented phenomenon in early child speech. Interestingly, children differ in terms of how extensively they omit articles depending on their age and what language(s) they are exposed to. Different accounts have been proposed to account for this cross-linguistic variation. One of the most widely discussed models is the Nominal Mapping Parameter (NMP), originally proposed in Chierchia (1998), which relates variation in child language to the syntactic and semantic properties of noun phrases across languages (e.g. Chierchia, Guasti and Gualmini 1999, Guasti and Gavarró 2003, Guasti et al. 2004). Other influential accounts of determiner omission have been formulated in prosody-oriented research (e.g. Gerken 1991, 1994, Lleó 1998, 2001, Lleó and Demuth 1999, Roark and Demuth 2000, Demuth et al., in press). So far, no common agreement has been reached. This paper presents a study on article acquisition in English, German, Norwegian and Swedish, where article use is subject to similar syntactic and semantic conditions. Hence, the NMP predicts similar acquisition patterns. In terms of their metrical structure, noun phrases in these languages differ considerably. Accordingly, different acquisition patterns are expected.

Between connectivity and modality : reported speech in interpreter-mediated doctor-patient communication

Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt)abstract
- This paper analyzes data from doctor-patient interaction mediated by nonprofessional ad hoc-interpreters with a focus on the performance of ad hocinterpreters and their use of verba dicendi (“to say”, “to tell”, “to mean to say”). Our analysis of the Turkish and Portuguese language data shows that in both languages markers of reported speech are used both to establish ‘interactional coherence’ (Bührig 2002), and to express speaker stance. It seems that verba dicendi serve to especially emphasize the reliability of information provided by the doctor. In line with a general shift towards a more dynamic concept for the role of interpreters, our results also indicate that the different communicative functions of markers of reported speech should be part of interpreter training.

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- I denna artikel undersöks hur skilldringen av barnet ändras när en bilderbok om kaninen Miffy av nederländske Dick Bruna översätts till svenska. I artikel undersöks även hur en multimodal textanalys (Kress & van Leeuwen 2006) kan integreras som metod för att undersöka översättning av bilderböcker.

Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
- This article is written in Dutch and discusses some of the main issues in my doctoral thesis "Nederländska bilderböcker blir svenska. En multimodal översättningsanalys" (2010). The thesis deals with the translation of Dutch and Flemish picture books between 1995 and 2006. It includes a general bibliographical study and also a more detailed translation analysis about the Miffy-books by Dutch picture book artits Dick Bruna. In order to analyse how both words and images are translated, multimodal text analysis is integrated as a tool in the translation analysis.
