  • MANAGING SUPPLY CHAIN INTERFACES A framework towards an integrated logistics platform
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of Nofoma conference, 2011, Harstad, Norway.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose of this paper - The purpose of this paper is to explore current interfaces between major member-firms in port organisations and to develop a framework to integrate these member-firms through better management of interfaces. Design/methodology/approach - To prepare this paper, a structured literature review was conducted together with multi-case studies. To analyse the data, a theoretical interface model was used as a basis to define and describe different natures of interfaces. This enabled the development of a framework towards an integrated logistics platform. Findings - The research shows that successful companies will be those that are able to manage supply chain interfaces efficiently. These interfaces revealed by the study are: media, transfer, data and information, control and communication, and user interfaces. The framework demonstrates these types of interfaces and helps facilitate better integration between ports’ member-firms in supply chains. Practical implications (if applicable) - The paper provides a framework for understanding current interfaces between major member-firms in port organisations and may be a useful insight for firms wishing to enhance supply chain integration. What is original/value of paper - The idea behind the study is to contribute to a better understanding of integration issues within the maritime supply chain through a structured literature review and multi-case studies that lead to better management of supply chain interfaces.

  • Information Technology, democratic societies and competitive markets
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: An information law for the 21st Century. - Athens : Nomiki Vivliothiki.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Access of relevant information, or knowledge, is a necessary condition for finding the right solution to a problem or making the right decision. Such information triggers and maintains the psychological and societal processes lying behind the achievement of important aims for individuals and groups. Democracy demands dialog, but dialog is not possible among citizens who are totally convinced about the truth of their ideas. A participant in a dialog must have a critical attitude toward own beliefs, otherwise a common search for a better decision is not possible. IT tools can train and support unconstrained, self-critical, systematic and holistic problem solving, decision and law making. Competitive markets, like democratic societies, need access to information. Whereas well organized and strong players can guarantee it more or less for themselves the same is very difficult for consumers to achieve, like it is for citizens regarding political information. IT can easily provide information about prices, quality and other relevant aspects of products and services in the market. However, the available form, content and amount of information in the market or in politics, which are controlled by the strongest stakeholders, have as their main goal to constrain systematic and critical thinking. Therefore to take advantage of IT’s features in developing better markets and political procedures it is necessary to create rules that can guarantee it.

  • Trusting Digitized Patient-Related Information
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 5th International Symposium on Human Aspects of Information Security and Assurance (HAISA 2011). - Plymouth Center for Security, Comunications & Network Research, University of Plymouth. - 978-1-84102-284-0 ; s. 119-129
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Trust the receiving increasing attention nowadays, particularly since new technology enables communication and collaboration like it has never been seen before. However, trust is a fuzzy concept that needs further examination and attention from multiple levels. For examples, security is very important from a user's point of view in trusting that technology will function in accordance with the user's intended and requested function. This paper reviews the concept of patient safety, which thus far has been discussed and defined from a narrow technical perspective. We demonstrate that it is much more complex, and that it is not primarily the technical issues that are problematic, but rather the cultural, process-related and personnel issues. Our results point to a need for a new approach, which takes the patient's view of healthcare and the patient-related digital information as its focus. The discussion is made from a Swedish perspective, but the issues are international. The needs for information and knowledge in healthcare are obvious. Without clear definitions of concepts and roles, a good information flow or process cannot be designed. Our discussion shows that trusted digital patient information gives an opportunity for a patient-focused healthcare. Multidimensional trust must be addressed on all levels; organization, person and technology. More empirical research into trust in digital patient-related information is necessary, to develop a model for patient safety from a trust perspective that encompasses all levels of trust.

  • Framework and Indicators for a Sustainable Manufacturing Mapping Methodology
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2010 Winter Simulation Conference. - 978-1-4244-9864-2 ; 42, s. 3411-3422
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Reducing costs, improving quality, shortening the time-to-market, and at the same time act and think sus-tainable are major challenges for manufacturing industries. To strive towards these objectives, discrete event simulation (DES) has proven to be an effective tool for production system decision support. Large companies continuously log raw data, and are therefore able to collect large quantities of re-source event information. However, usually it is difficult to reuse data for future DES projects. Thus, the aim of this paper is to describe how to facilitate data sharing between data sources and DES models. A test implementation of a simulation data architecture has been realized. A data processing tool, a database and an interface were created, which provide reusable resource event data to pave the way for sustainable resource information in DES projects. The entirety data exchange is provided by standard XML documents following the latest Core Manufacturing Simulation Data recommendations.
