  • Education–occupation mismatch : Is there an income penalty?
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Economics of Education Review. - Elsevier. - 0272-7757. ; 29:6, s. 1047-1059
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper adds to the sparse literature on the consequences of education–occupation mismatches. It examines the income penalty for field of education–occupation mismatches for men and women with higher education degrees in Sweden and reveals that the penalty for such mismatches is large for both men and women. For mismatched men the income penalty is about twice as large as that found for US men, whereas for women the penalty is of about the same size as for US women. Controlling for cognitive ability further establishes that the income penalty is not caused by a sorting by ability, at least for Swedish men. The income penalty for men decreases with work experience, which is an indication that education-specific skills and work experience are substitutes to some extent.

  • Attitudes to personal carbon allowances: political trust, fairness and ideology
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Climate Policy. - James & James Science Publishers Ltd/Earthscan. - 1469-3062. ; 10:4, s. 410-431
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The idea of personal carbon allowances (PCAs) was presented by the UK Environment Secretary, David Miliband, in 2006. Although no nation state is seriously developing proposals for them, they have been discussed within academia, NGOs and policy-making circles. PCAs can be seen as a logical extension of emissions trading schemes, which has so far only applied at the firm level, to individuals. The purpose of this article is to analyse some critical aspects of the public's support for a PCA scheme. In particular, the focus is on the relationship between people's attitudes to a PCA scheme and their trust in politicians, its perceived fairness, and its underlying ideology, respectively. The relationship between people's attitudes towards an increase in the current carbon tax rate and their attitudes towards an implementation of a PCA scheme is analysed. The study is based on a mail questionnaire sent out to a random, representative sample in Sweden.

  • Families Navigating the Landscape of Consumption in the Swedish Welfare Society
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal Of Macromarketing. - Sage Publications Inc. - 0276-1467. ; 30:4, s. 366-374
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Swedish welfare policy has in several ways promoted the individual rather than the family as a unit. This is not a phenomenon happening only in Sweden, but one occurring in many other Western countries where individualization is strongly emphasized. Sweden is, however, interesting as an example of a country with deep collective roots regarding issues of welfare. The welfare state has been, and to a major part still is, the main provider of social services, a fact that has affected the Swedish family in certain ways. During the last decades, the Swedish welfare society has changed toward marketization implying that individuals and families have to take on more responsibility regarding their welfare. The aim of this article is to discuss the transformation of Swedish families as consumers reflecting upon the effects of the Swedish welfare society.

  • Included or excluded? : The dual influence of the organisational field and organizational practice on new female academic
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Gender and Education. - London : Routledge. - 0954-0253. ; 22:2, s. 209-225
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A number of measures have been taken by the society to ensure gender equality inhigher education. Nevertheless, women still face great difficulties when pursuingan academic career. Our aim is to increase the understanding of how the society, conceptualised as the organisational field, interacts with organisational factors andpersonal actions as women try to establish themselves within academia. Wefollowed a group of female PhD students and their struggle to graduate at aSwedish, traditionally male-dominated, university department. The paper analyseshow actors and regulations in the society interact with the department’s genderedstructures and practices. Three processes that influenced the women’s careeropportunities have been identified – a process of integration, liberation andlegitimatisation. We also show that women can get accepted and realise theirshort-term objective, based on support from the society, while not necessarilybeing included by the department in a longer-term perspective.

  • The Other Side of Enjoyment : Short-circuiting Marketing and Creativity in the Experience Economy
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Organization. - Sage. - 1350-5084. ; 17:3, s. 363-378
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The notion of experience economy asserts that staging the most mundane consumption practise as individualized entertainment adds value to the producer and consumer alike (Pine and Gilmore, 1999).This article questions this assumption of mere added value.Probing into an interplay between a marketing fantasy and a customer movement passionately engaging with its promise, it draws attention to a structural inability to enjoy the pleasures that the experience economy revolves around. Invoking the theoretical apparatus outlined by Lacan in The Other Side of Psychoanalysis (2007), the analysis sheds light on a social dynamics regulating this impossibility. This brings to the fore a range of ethical, political and economic consequences left largely untended by the literature, and dwelling on the other side of the lustrous enjoyment that so easily captures our imagination.

  • The moral responsibility of project selectors
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Project Management. - 0263-7863. ; 28:3, s. 212-219
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Managers who select projects have a moral responsibility. The purpose of this paper is to present a template to assess this responsibility so that it can be put into practice. Responsibility is here defined as a combination of attributability—what choices the project manager can ultimately be praised or blamed for, and of accountability—what choices the project manager has to be prepared to answer for. The template combines these two aspects of responsibility with the project selection process divided into three phases: initialization phase, appraisal phase, and decision phase. Various moral philosophers are used to highlight the moral issues at stake for each of these two dimensions of responsibility at each stage of the project selection process. Concluding remarks underlines the need for project selectors to adapt to the specific context when they use the template.

  • Collective Trust Behavior
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: SCANDINAVIAN JOURNAL OF ECONOMICS. - 0347-0520. ; 112:1, s. 25-53
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper investigates trust behavior in situations where decision-makers are large groups and the decision mechanism is collective. Theories from behavioral economics and psychology suggest that trust in such situations may differ from interindividual trust. The experimental results here reveal a large difference in trust but not in trustworthiness between the individual and collective setting. Furthermore, a field experiment captures the determinants of collective trust behavior among two Swedish cohorts. Beliefs about the other group and ones own group are strongly associated with collective trustworthiness and trust behavior.
