    • In this article, I will firstly sketch a fundamental distinction between representation and mediation, or, more specifically, between representation of media and transmediation. After that, I will discuss media characteristics that can be called “transmedial”, meaning that they can be successfully transferred from one medium to another. The aim is to establish a framework from which to develop a comprehensive theory of transmediality that has the capacity to include a wide range of phenomena that are characterized by transfers of media characteristics. To date, there has been no systematic account of all these phenomena. Existing research is characterized by compartmentalization, which does not favor a general understanding of transmedial relations. Most existing studies focus either on only a few media and their specific interrelations, or on limited study areas such as adaptation and ekphrasis. At the present time, adaptation is probably the most vigorous research area dedicated to the study of transmediality.

  • Культ Олександра Невського на теренах Гетьманської держави як ідеологічний маркер російської експансії у 1710–1720-х рр. : Cult of Alexander Nevsky on the Hetman State territory as an ideological marker of the Russian expansion in 1710-1720s

    • The purpose of the research is to analyze the mapping of the process of Russian expansion in Hetman Ukraine in 1710–1720s in the formation of the cult of the saint Prince Alexander Nevsky (Alexander Yaroslavich). The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the study of the outlined phenomena and events is an urgent need for modern Ukrainian historical science. The main reason for this updating is the relationship, including genetic, of some processes of the beginning of the XVIII century and those that are happening today. Understanding the way of formulating the origins of Russian imperial propaganda, the main provisions of which were formed during the reign of Peter I, allows for a more thoughtful look at the Ukrainian-Russian confrontation not only in the military and economic, but also in the ideological field. The main conclusions of the study is finding the relationship between the origins of the official veneration of Alexander Nevsky and the aggressive foreign policy of the Moscow kingdom towards transforming it into the Russian empire during the first twenty years of the XVIII century, as well as reflecting this process on the realities of Hetman State. An analytical review of the main aspects of the realization of the cult of Alexander Nevsky in the cultural, religious, political life of Russia during the reign of Peter I and the formation of imperial autocracy was carried out. A direct relationship has been derived between the spread of the cult and the administrative and economic activities on the lands of the northern Hetman State of Prince Alexander Menshikov, whose patron saint was Alexander Nevsky.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The article was written as part of the «Dialogues, disputes and battles: propaganda during the Great Northern War 1700–1721» project, which I am currently working on at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden). The project has received funding through the MSCA4Ukraine project, which is funded by Euro-pean Union. This part of the research deals with the concept of «unnatural behavior» proposed by me and its reflection in political discussions and information confrontations of the first quarter of the 18th c. In addition to comparative analytics (placement of tangible material in a pan-European context), I also use more specific methods (of suicidology, sometimes gender history). In early modernity, suicide was tra-ditionally classified as a conditional list of «unnatural» crimes, along with betrayal of country and mo-narch, the practice of magic, sexual practices that did not lead to conception (under the general term «so-domy»), heresies, atheism, blasphemy. Conceptually, all these phenomena were united by the idea that they violate the normal world order and lead to a distortion of the idea of divine creation, which means that they serve the purposes of the Devil. Also, due to the involvement of broad international contexts, the study has perspectives in the field of global history. The scientific novelty: little-studied documents from the archive of the British diplomat Charles Whit-worth about Muscovy and the Hetmanate during the Great Northern War 1700–1721 make it possible to consider the phenomenon of suicide not only through daily life, but also through the political optics of that time. This is especially interesting in the Eastern European dimension, where the study of the «unnatural» is still not very common.
