  • Social security as a cornerstone of the welfare state : reflections from the editors
  • 2024
  • In: Nordisk socialrättslig tidskrift. - Stockholm : Santérus Academic Press. - 9789189840263 ; , s. 245-254
  • Book chapter (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The primary objective of this special issue is to bring to light the role the social insurance system has as a cornerstone of the Swedish welfare state. The legal configuration of this system is consequently often significant for individuals in order for them to attain economic and social stability. Through its regulation of access to various benefits, including sickness allowances, pensions and non-monetary benefits such as rehabilitation services, social insurance can profoundly influence an individual’s capacity to navigate financial adversities across different life stages. Furthermore, it serves as a pivotal mechanism for social justice through its objective of equitably allocating resources and protection. Consequently, the configuration of social insurance benefits shapes not only individuals’ interaction with the welfare state but also their relationship with society at large.

  • 2024
  • Editorial collection (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Religion is increasingly visible in the contemporary world as a complexphenomenon – requiring multidisciplinary research to do justice to thecomplexity. Multidisciplinary research is however, though lauded bymany, notoriously difficult to bring into fruition. This volume takes on the challenge to bridge the gap. Contributionsformulate the challenges many have faced, but few yet analysed and putinto the hands of researchers concrete tools with which to set aboutdesigning and executing multidisciplinary research on religions, beliefsand religious behaviour. In an era where research funding increasinglyexpects interdisciplinary collaboration it provides guidance onconstructive pathways and pitfalls to avoid.

  • Folkrätten i svensk medicinsk rätt
  • 2024
  • In: Folkrätten i svensk rätt: Ett nytt decennium. - 9789144159508 ; , s. 263-283
  • Book chapter (peer-reviewed)abstract

  • EU Citizens – Thirty Years On : An Introduction
  • 2024
  • In: Nordisk socialrättslig tidskrift. - : Stockholms universitet. - 2000-6500. ; 38, s. 3-23
  • Journal article (other academic/artistic)abstract
    •  2023 marked thirty years since European Union citizenship was introduced as the Treaty of Maastricht entered into force. Celebrated as the world’s first “transnational legal status”, yet a complement to nationality, the status entails rights that have been expanded, modified, re-interpreted, against the background of the economic integration process. Criticisms against European Union citizenship frequently focus its exclusionary nature, often in relation to economic factors. This offers the springboard from which we started to reflect in pulling together this special issue. The articles presented in this special issue are the result of a conference held 22–23 November 2022 in Uppsala, Sweden, entitled European Citizens Thirty Years On: Economic Contributors, Political Members, Right-holders?The conference offered an important occasion to reflect on, and assess, the past three decades of Union citizenship with the understanding that citizenship has to be grasped in opposition to different forms of exclusion – legal, political and social. Different disciplinary outlooks were thus taken into account. Its aim was, more specifically, to assess the three decades of Union citizen- ship against the backdrop of the revival of interest in economic contributions and the role these ought to play in attribution of social roles and political power. We therefore asked whether economic contributions matter more, and what this means for citizenship, and European Union citizenship in particular.
