  • Co‐Design Workshops to Develop a Psychosocial Support Service Model for Refugees in Sweden Affected by Gender‐Based Violence
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Health Expectations. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 1369-6513 .- 1369-7625. ; 27:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Experiencing gender-based violence (GBV) is common among refugees. Intersecting systems of oppression can increase the risk of GBV and of suffering detrimental consequences, while concurrently creating barriers to meaningful support. Despite this, refugees with lived experience of GBV are rarely involved in the development, planning and adaptation of services and policies. Methods: This article reports on a formative research process that aimed to involve public contributors (refugee victim-survivors of GBV) and relevant stakeholders in co-designing a service model aimed at improving psychosocial support in Sweden. Led by a partnership of public contributors and academic researchers, the research process consisted of iterative cycles of co-design workshops, complemented by scoping of existing literature. Results: The co-design process resulted in a characterisation of the psychosocial service system needs, as perceived by the survivor co-researchers and stakeholders, and a two-level empowerment and support service model. The model included (i) a community-based intervention to promote help-seeking and (ii) psychosocial group support delivered in specialist clinics. Outcomes of the project included perceived benefits for those involved, service-led direct changes and acquisition of funding for continued research on the co-designed model. Conclusion: Improving psychosocial support for refugees in Sweden affected by GBV requires safe spaces to connect with peers and familiarise with available services, laws and rights in the society. Further, strengthened collaborations across sectors are necessary to meet the variety of needs. Co-design workshops were an effective way to initiate changes in the service delivery model for psychosocial support for refugees in Sweden affected by GBV.Patient or Public Contributions: This is a participatory reflection on a participatory process. The survivor co-researchers contributed to designing and carrying out the PPI process and have co-authored this manuscript.

  • Post‐migration psychosocial experiences and challenges amongst LGBTQ + forced migrants : A meta‐synthesis of qualitative reports
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Advanced Nursing. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0309-2402 .- 1365-2648. ; 79:1, s. 358-371
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aims: Synthesize qualitative research to illuminate the post-migration psychosocial experiences amongst LGBTQ+ forced migrants.Design: Meta-synthesis of qualitative reports.Data sources: Systematic searches in seven databases and manual screenings were performed in July 2021 (21,049 entries screened in total). The final sample included 29 English-language reports containing empirical qualitative findings about post-migration experiences and published 10 years prior to the searches, based on migrants as the primary source.Review Methods: Methodological quality was appraised using the CASP and JBI checklists. Through a collaborative process involving nurse-midwife researchers and experienced clinical professionals, reports were analysed with a two-stage qualitative meta-synthesis including an inductive qualitative content analysis. Results: The methodological quality was high and the reports included 636 participants in total. Two themes were identified through the meta-synthesis. The first theme illustrates the psychological distress and numerous challenges and stressors forced migrants face after arrival, including challenges encountered as an LGBTQ+ forced migrant, psychological reactions and manifestations, and practical issues related to resettlement and living conditions. The second theme highlights the resilience and strength they find through various internal processes and external resources, including resilience and strengthening resources, identity formation and establishing and maintaining social relationships. Conclusion: After arrival in the host country, forced migrants identifying as LGBTQ+ face numerous societal and personal challenges whilst being at risk of experiencing significant psychological distress. These migrants utilize a wide range of resources that may strengthen their resilience. Peer support stands out as a highly appreciated and promising resource that needs further attention in experimental research.Impact: Forced migrants identifying as LGBTQ+ need access to adequate and sufficient support. The findings emphasize several strength-building resources that may inform nurses, midwives, researchers and other professionals when providing psychosocial support for these persons.Patient or Public Contribution: No patient or public contribution.

  • Non-Invasive Evaluation of Intradiscal Deformation during Axial Loading of the Spine Using Deformation-Field Magnetic Resonance Imaging: A Potential Tool for Micro-Instability Measurements
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Medicine. - : MDPI AG. - 2077-0383. ; 11:16
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Degeneration alters the structural components of the disc and its mechanical behavior. Understanding this pathophysiological process is of great importance, as it may lead to back pain. However, non-invasive methods to characterize the disc mechanics in vivo are lacking. Here, a potential method for measurements of the intradiscal deformation under stress is presented. The method utilizes a standard MRI protocol, commercial loading equipment, and registration software. The lumbar spine (L1/L2-L5/S1) of 36 human subjects was imaged with and without axial loading of the spine. The resulting images were registered, and changes in the images during the registration were displayed pixel-by-pixel to visualize the internal deformation of the disc. The degeneration grade, disc height, disc angle and tilt angle were determined and correlated with the deformation using multivariate regression analysis. The largest deformation was found at the lower lumbar spine, and differences in regional behaviors between individual discs were found. Weak to moderate correlations between the deformation and different disc characteristics were found, where the degeneration grade and tilt angle were the main contributing factors. To conclude, the image-based method offers a potential tool to study the pathophysiological process of the disc.

  • Ecological risk assessment of trace elements accumulated in stormwater ponds within industrial areas
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Environmental Science and Pollution Research. - Heidelberg : Springer. - 0944-1344 .- 1614-7499. ; 29, s. 27026-27041
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Stormwater ponds can provide flood protection and efficiently treat stormwater using sedimentation. As the ponds also host aquatic biota and attract wildlife, there is a growing concern that the sediment bound pollutants negatively affect aquatic organisms and the surrounding ecosystem. In this study, we used three methods to assess the accumulation and the potential ecological risk of 13 different heavy metals and metalloids (e.g. trace elements) including both elements that are frequently monitored and some which are rarely monitored in sediment from 5 stormwater ponds located within catchments with predominately industrial activities. Ecological risk for organisms in the older ponds was observed for both commonly (e.g. Cd, Cu, Zn) and seldom (e.g. Ag, Sb) monitored trace elements. The 3 methods ranked the degree of contamination similarly. We show that methods usually used for sediment quality assessment in aquatic ecosystems can also be used for screening the potential risk of other trace elements in stormwater ponds and may consequently be useful in stormwater monitoring and management. Our study also highlights the importance of establishing background conditions when conducting ecological risk assessment of sediment in stormwater ponds. © 2021, The Author(s).

  • Study of the compression behaviour of Ti6Al4V trabecular structures produced by additive laser manufacturing
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Materials. - : MDPI. - 1996-1944. ; 12:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this paper was to investigate the compression properties of several trabecular structures produced by additive laser manufacturing of a Ti6Al4V, having different densities and unit cells. Filling space structures were investigated, with different unit cells characterized by both bending-dominated and stretching-dominated behaviour. The stiffness and yield strengthwere correlated to relative density according to the Gibson and Ashby model. For a constant porosity, the stiffness and the yield strength varied between two extremes represented by the cubic structure (stretching-dominated deformation) and the cross structure (bending-dominated deformation). The properties of the deformed structures did not differ substantially from those of the regular structures. Only in the cubic structure did distortion enhance the contribution of bending to deformation and both stiffness and strength decreased. Cross structures displayed the highest strength at constant stiffness than the others, since they are characterized by the most favourable orientation of the struts.

  • Mechanical properties of porous structures produced by selective laser melting of a Ti6Al4V alloy powder
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Funtai Oyobi Fummatsu Yakin/Journal of the Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy. - : Japanese Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy. - 0532-8799 .- 1880-9014. ; 65:8, s. 481-485
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The compression Young's modulus and strength of lattice structures with porosity between 47.8% and 82.6% produced by Selective Laser Melting (SLM) of a Ti6Al4V powder were investigated. The Young's modulus and yield strength range from 1 GPa to 20 GPa and from 10 MPa to 250 MPa, respectively. On increasing porosity, both stiffness and strength decrease. When porosity increases above 60-65%, the strength shows an accentuated decrease compared to the stiffness decrease. The absence of struts parallel to the loading direction in the lattice structure allows to achieve higher yield strength than other structures having the same Young's modulus.

  • Tensile and compression properties of variously arranged porous Ti-6Al-4V additively manufactured structures via SLM
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: EFC22 - Loading And Environmental Effects On Structural Integrity. - : Elsevier. ; , s. 149-154
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Additively manufactured porous structures fmd increasing applications in the biomedical context to produce orthopedic prosthesis and devices. In comparison with traditional bulk metallic implants, they permit to tailor the stiffness of the prosthesis to that of the surrounding bony tissues, thus limiting the onset of stress shielding and resulting implant loosening, and to favor the bone in-growth through the interconnected pores. Mechanical and biological properties of these structures are strongly influenced by the size and spatial arrangement of pores and struts. In the present work irregular and regular cellular as well as fully random porous structures are investigated through tensile and compression uniaxial tests. Specific point of novelty of this work is that, beside classical compressive tests, which are standard characterization methods for porous/cellular materials, tensile tests are carried out. Mechanical tests are complemented with morphological analysis and porosity measurements. An attempt is made to find correlations between cell arrangements, porosity and mechanical properties.
