  • Temperament, but not childhood trauma, distinguishes borderline personality disorder from bipolar disorder and ADHD
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0803-9488 .- 1502-4725. ; 78:1, s. 79-86
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BackgroundThe aim of this study was to investigate if temperament and experience of childhood trauma differed between young psychiatric patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD), bipolar disorder (BD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).MethodsDiagnoses were based on the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM Axis I and Axis II. Temperament was assessed by the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) and childhood trauma by the Early Trauma Inventory-Self Report-Short Form (ETI-SR-SF). Temperament and childhood trauma were compared between the BPD group (n = 19) and the non-BPD group (BD/ADHD) (n = 95). Interactions between trauma and temperament were evaluated using a logistic regression model with a BPD diagnosis as outcome variable.ResultsParticipants in the BPD group showed higher novelty seeking (NS) and harm avoidance (HA). Traumatic experiences in childhood were common but the BPD group differed very little from the others in this regard. The interaction between temperament and trauma had low explanatory power for a BPD diagnosis in this sample.ConclusionTemperament might be useful to distinguish BPD when symptoms of impulsivity and affective instability are evaluated in psychiatric patients. The results from the interaction analysis support the multifactorial background to BPD.

  • The Importance of Trust in a Digital Europe: Reflections on the Sharing Economy and Blockchains
  • 2019. - 1st
  • Ingår i: Trust in the European Union in Challenging Time. - Cham : Palgrave Macmillan Cham. - 9783319738574 - 9783319738567 ; , s. 181-209
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • For Teigland, Holmberg and Felländer, the sharing economy offers people new opportunities for value creation in the European Union. With the help of digital platforms, participants in the sharing economy may cut out traditional intermediaries resulting in a cheaper exchange of goods and services. However, a vacuum of responsibility arises in the wake of digitalization, eroding provisions of labor and consumer law. Creating trust in the digital environment is a huge challenge for the sharing economy. The Union can engage more intensively in the digitalization of European societies by promoting economic growth and enhancing the capacity for innovation. The authors consider it essential to develop a ‘digital presence’ to prevent the European perspective on democracy and freedom of expression losing out to global actors.

  • Vikten av tilllit i ett digitaliserat Europa
  • 2017

  • Economic evaluation of screening for prostate cancer : a randomized populaionbased programme during a 10 year period in Sweden
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Health Policy. - 0168-8510 .- 1872-6054. ; 45:2, s. 133-147
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Prostate cancer is a growing health problem representing considerable costs. Screening and early curative treatment may reduce morbidity and possibly prevent future escalating costs. However, population screening programmes are generally not well accepted at present due to uncerainty about whether screening for prostate cancer can result in reduced mortality. Evidence from large, randomized, controlled trials is still lacking. The objective of this study was to calculate clinical and economic consequences of general prostate cancer screening based on a limited screening trial in a Swedish community and a decision-tree model. A random selection of 1492 men (50–69 years) were invited to repeated screening in 1987. They have been examined every third year (four rounds). The other 7679 men in the population act as controls. The results show that the total incremental health care costs for prostate cacer will increase by 179 million SEK per year with screening compared to no-screening. The number of detected cases of localized cancer will increase by about 1000, which represents an additional cost of about 158 000 SEK per case. In conclusion, general screening for prostate cancer can be performed with a reasonable cost per detected localized cancer. Information on the long-term effect on life quality and cancer mortality is unknown.
