  • Polis - vad är det?
  • 2023

  • Effect of Different Extrusion Parameters on Dietary Fiber in Wheat Bran and Rye Bran
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Food Science. - : Wiley. - 0022-1147 .- 1750-3841. ; 82:6, s. 1344-1350
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Wheat bran and rye bran are mostly used as animal feed today, but their high content of dietary fiber and bioactive components are beneficial to human health. Increased use of bran as food raw material could therefore be desirable. However, bran mainly contains unextractable dietary fiber and deteriorates the sensory properties of products. Processing by extrusion could increase the extractability of dietary fiber and increase the sensory qualities of bran products. Wheat bran and rye bran were therefore extruded at different levels of moisture content, screw speed and temperature, in order to find the optimal setting for increased extractability of dietary fiber and positive sensory properties. A water content of 24% for wheat bran and 30% for rye bran, a screw speed of 400 rpm, and a temperature of 130 °C resulted in the highest extractability of total dietary fiber and arabinoxylan. Arabinoxylan extractability increased from 5.8% in wheat bran to 9.0% in extruded wheat bran at those settings, and from 14.6% to 19.2% for rye bran. Total contents of dietary fiber and arabinoxylan were not affected by extrusion. Content of β-glucan was also maintained during extrusion, while its molecular weight decreased slightly and extractability increased slightly. Extrusion at these settings is therefore a suitable process for increasing the use of wheat bran and rye bran as a food raw material.

  • Study of precipitation in martensitic Fe-C-Cr alloys during tempering : Experiments and modelling
  • 2015
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Understanding the precipitation reaction is very important since precipitation hardening is one of the most effective strengthening mechanisms in metallic alloys. In martensitic steels, a tempering heat treatment is often performed. During tempering various new phases are precipitated and the spatial and temporal evolution of these precipitates strongly influences the properties of the steel, such as strength/ductility, creep, fatigue and hot corrosion resistance. Therefore, the possibility of quantitative modelling of the precipitation process will provide many opportunities for advanced materials and process design and optimization as well as service life assessments. The Fe-C-Cr system forms the basis for tool steels and is consequently used in many applications such as e.g. metal forming operations. They are characterized by a high hardness and good toughness, even at elevated temperatures. In the present work, the as-quenched martensitic microstructures of four Fe-C-Cr alloys with varying Cr and C contents were characterized by Light Optical Microscopy (LOM) and Electron Microscopy. The effects of Cr and C on the morphology of martensite were investigated. It was found that Cr addition had a similar effect as C on the martensitic morphology and on the ratio of high-angle grain boundary (HAGB) to low-angle grain boundary (LAGB). However, the micro-hardness was unaffected by the Cr addition whilst it was strongly influenced by the C addition. In addition, a quantitative experimental characterization of the precipitates formed during tempering of the martensite was performed. The Langer-Schwartz theory combined with the Kampmann-Wagner-Numerical (KWN) method, as implemented in the software TC-PRISMA, was used to predict the precipitation of carbides after tempering in one of the model alloys: Fe-0.15C-4.0Cr (mass%). The microstructure characterization of the as-quenched material provided vital input parameters for the modelling work and a comparison was made between the modelling predictions and the experimental results. The effect of parameters such as dislocation density, grain size and interfacial energy on the precipitation of carbides was discussed.

  • Effect of Austenitising Temperature and Cooling Rate on Microstructure in a Hot-Work Tool Steel
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 6th International Swedish Production Symposium. - 9789198097412 ; , s. 1-7
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The effects on microstructucture of austenitising temperature and cooling rate during hardening were studied for a hot-work tool steel. Transformation temperatures were determined by dilatometry, scanning electron microscopy was used to characterise the microstructure and both retained austenite contents and their lattice parameters were measured by neutron diffraction. For lower cooling rates, lower austenitising temperatures produce larger amounts of both retained austenite and bainite. Retained austenite in bainitic structures is higher in carbon than in martensitic structures. Consequently, lowering the austenitising temperature will affect microstructure and properties.

  • No GGGGCC-hexanucleotide repeat expansion in C9ORF72 in parkinsonism patients in Sweden
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Frontotemporal Degeneration. - : Informa Healthcare. - 2167-8421 .- 2167-9223. ; 14:1, s. 26-29
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An intronic GGGGCC-hexanucleotide repeat expansion in C9ORF72 was recently identified as a major cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia. Some amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients have signs of parkinsonism, and many parkinsonism patients develop dementia. In this study we examined if the hexanucleotide repeat expansion was present in parkinsonism patients, to clarify if there could be a relationship between the repeat expansion and disease. We studied the size of the hexanucleotide repeat expansion in a well defined population-based cohort of 135 Parkinson's disease patients and 39 patients with atypical parkinsonism and compared with 645 Swedish control subjects. We found no correlation between Parkinson's disease or atypical parkinsonism and the size of the GGGGCC repeat expansion in C9ORF72. In conclusion, this GGGGCC-repeat expansion in C9ORF72 is not a cause of parkinsonism in the Swedish population.

  • Microstructure influence on corrosion behavior of a Fe-Cr-V-N tool alloy studied by SEM/EDS, scanning Kelvin force microscopy and electrochemical measurement
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Corrosion Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0010-938X .- 1879-0496. ; 66, s. 153-159
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Microstructure influence on corrosion behavior of an N-based tool alloy (Fe-Cr-V-N) has been studied. Electron microscopy analysis showed two types of hard phases in the alloy. One-pass mode scanning Kelvin force microscopy (KFM) was used to investigate relative nobility of the hard phases. Volta potential mapping indicates higher nobility for the hard phases than the alloy matrix, and, the V- and N-rich particles exhibit the highest Volta potential. Post-polarization analysis by SEM revealed localized dissolution initiated in matrix regions adjacent to hard phase particles, and the boundary region surrounding the Cr- and Mo-rich particles is more prone to localized corrosion.

  • Coarsening investigations of precipitates in PM tool steel grades - an effect of nitrogen
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Berg- und Huttenmännische Monatshefte (BHM). - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0005-8912 .- 1613-7531. ; 157:11, s. 406-413
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present experimental and theoretical comparisons of the coarsening rate for the MX(X=C, N or C+N) precipitate in five different tool steel grades produced by PowderMetallurgy (PM). The alloys contain different amounts of nitrogen and carbon; ranging fromhigh carbon/low nitrogen to high nitrogen/low carbon. Common for the grades is a highamount of precipitate forming alloying elements resulting in a high fraction of hard phase.Experimentally we have found out that the nitrogen rich precipitates coarsen slower, both forhigher and lower carbon content, than the carbon rich precipitates. Coarsening simulations areperformed utilizing the DICTRA software and an agreement between calculations andmeasurements can be concluded.
