  • Stable use of radiotherapy in lymphoma patients over time : A comprehensive national overview of radiotherapy use in Sweden with focus on older patients
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Clinical and Translational Radiation Oncology. - : Elsevier. - 2405-6308. ; 46
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background and purposeThe role of radiotherapy (RT) in lymphoma is constantly refined with the advent of novel treatments. However, RT is still an effective treatment and tolerability is high. Therefore, we aimed to describe the use of RT in primary treatment of lymphoma over calendar time, with a specific focus on older patients (age ≥ 70 years) with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) subtypes.Materials & MethodsAll adult patients diagnosed with lymphoma from 2007 to 2018 in Sweden were included and followed for survival until end of 2020. Patient characteristics and relative survival (RS) were described for patients with NHL by subtype and RT use.ResultsIn the cohort of lymphoma patients aged ≥ 70 years (n = 12,698) 11 % received RT as part of primary treatment. No decline in use of RT over calendar period was seen. Use of RT as monotherapy was associated with stage I-II disease and older age among patients with stage III-IV disease. Patients with indolent lymphomas aged ≥ 70 years who were selected for treatment with RT as monotherapy with a dose of ≥ 20 Gy had 2-year RS rate of 100 % which remained similar at five years. For patients with DLBCL, RT as monotherapy with a dose of ≥ 20 Gy was mostly administered to patients aged ≥ 85 years with a 2-year RS rate of 68 %.ConclusionThe use of RT in first-line lymphoma treatment was stable over calendar time. RT monotherapy is associated with encouraging outcomes among patients with NHL aged ≥ 70 years who were selected to receive this.

  • Klädinköpen måste ner – men vi behöver hjälp
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Aftonbladet. - : Schibsted Forlag.

  • The Forest and Its Role in the Move Towards a Sustainable Society : Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 48th Annual Macromarketing Conference.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The forest can be associated with a variety of values such as economic value (market value), affectional value (feelings), nostalgic value (longing for the past), historical value (an appreciation of the past), experiential value (how it is experienced), place value (how it is experienced depending on location and surroundings such as different trees, wind power etc) and functional value (how it is used, for wood products, textiles etc.). In a society dealing with severe climate change, the forest is expected to contribute to the transition towards environmental sustainability according to the Paris agreement (unfccc.int). The forest’s ability to stores carbon dioxide makes it preferable to maintain the forest or even increase the number of trees to compensate for emissions of greenhouse gases from other sectors. The goal of the Paris agreement is to limit global warming to well below 2 Celcius, preferably to 1,5 Celcius (unfccc.int). There are conflicting opinions whether the forest should be kept or not. By not harvesting the forest, carbon dioxide is stored in the soil. At the same time, material from the forest is expected to be used instead of cement and fossil-based raw material and hence it needs to be harvested. In addition to different opinions on whether the forest should be harvested or not, there are also different opinions on the practices of managing a forest, including the trees to plant and the type of forest harvesting. The role of the forest in the move towards a sustainable society needs to be understood in relation to contemporary consumer culture. The purpose of this paper is to highlight different consumption practices that are related to the forest by presenting different logics representing different views on the forest and its relation to consumption. Throughout the paper, examples are given from Sweden that represents a country of trees. Different actors have different views on forest governance and management in Sweden over time (e.g., Mårald et al. 2017). Macromarketing researchers emphasize the importance of sustainability and consumption (e.g., Assadourian 2010; Kilbourne, McDonagh and Prothero 1997). A macromarketing perspective of the role of the forest in the move towards a sustainable society is important in that it recognizes the complexity of different values and power relations in logics co-existing in contemporary consumer culture.

  • Marketing Fashion : Critical Perspectives on the Power of Fashion in Contemporary Culture
  • 2023. - 1
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Fashion as a societal phenomenon has fascinated scholars in different disciplines such as history, sociology, anthropology, psychology, and marketing often from an interdisciplinary perspective. Fashion mirrors societal changes, cultural norms, and values over time. It can be interpreted as mundane everyday practices, constructions of identity and status as well as being associated with the art world. In this book, the focus lies on marketing and the role of marketers when fashion permeates society in deliberate and subtle ways. This edited collection critically reflects upon the power of fashion in contemporary society and the role marketing and marketers play in the process of defining, creating, and preserving fashion, but also in divesting fashion that is no longer up to date. It expands on existing knowledge to better understand the role marketers play as cultural agents in determining fashion and its markets. Contributors to the book are international, advanced scholars from a variety of disciplines such as anthropology, marketing, psychology and sociology, who challenge traditional ways of thinking about marketing. In a society where problems with overproduction and excessive consumption represent major challenges, the critical perspective of the role fashion plays in contemporary society and what influence marketing has for shaping fashion are not merely relevant, but necessary. This cutting-edge, interdisciplinary book will appeal to scholars across a broad range of fields including fashion marketing, fashion studies, and consumer culture research. It will also be valuable for students in advanced courses of study in a variety of disciplines besides marketing.

  • Low-dose aspirin use and colorectal cancer survival in 32,195 patients : A national cohort study
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Cancer Medicine. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 2045-7634. ; 12:1, s. 315-324
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Results from previous studies indicate that use of aspirin may improve colorectal cancer (CRC) survival. The aim of this study was to assess whether use of aspirin influences overall survival or CRC-specific survival in an unselected cohort of patients diagnosed with CRC.METHODS: The study was performed using the Colorectal Cancer Data Base Sweden (CRCBaSe), a mega-linkage originating from the Swedish Colorectal Cancer Register, with additional linkages to other national health care registers. All patients diagnosed with primary CRC stage I-III treated with curative surgery, aged 18-85 years at diagnosis, from 2007 through 2016 were identified. Information on low-dose aspirin use was extracted from the Swedish Prescribed Drug Register. Exposure was defined as dispensed prescription for at least 6 months. Aspirin exposure was analyzed at the time of surgery (yes/no) and as a time-varying exposure during follow-up. Follow-up was restricted to a maximum 6 years, to model 5-year survival. Cox regression models were fitted to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Adjustments were performed for sex, age, year of diagnosis, Charlson comorbidity index, hypertension, and ASA score as potential confounders.RESULTS: A total of 32,195 patients diagnosed with CRC were included. 6764 (21%) were exposed to aspirin at the time of CRC surgery. The median time of follow-up was 4.2 years. Aspirin use at the time of surgery was not associated with all-cause (adjusted HR = 1.03, 95% CI: 0.97-1.08) nor CRC-specific mortality (adjusted HR = 0.99, 95% CI: 0.91-1.07). Aspirin use during follow-up was associated with increased all-cause (adjusted HR = 1.09, 95% CI: 1.04-1.15) but not CRC-specific mortality (adjusted HR = 0.98, 95% CI: 0.91-1.06). A CRC-specific effect associated with aspirin was noted from approximately 3 years following surgery.CONCLUSIONS: In this large nation-wide cohort study there was no convincing association between aspirin use after CRC and OS or CRC-specific survival.

  • Characterization of surface markers on extracellular vesicles isolated from lymphatic exudate from patients with breast cancer
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Bmc Cancer. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1471-2407. ; 22:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background Breast cancer is the most common cancer, and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, among females world-wide. Recent research suggests that extracellular vesicles (EVs) play a major role in the development of breast cancer metastasis. Axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) is a procedure in patients with known lymph node metastases, and after surgery large amounts of serous fluid are produced from the axilla. The overall aim was to isolate and characterize EVs from axillary serous fluid, and more specifically to determine if potential breast cancer biomarkers could be identified. Methods Lymphatic drain fluid was collected from 7 patients with breast cancer the day after ALND. EVs were isolated using size exclusion chromatography, quantified and detected by nanoparticle tracking analysis, electron microscopy, nano flow cytometry and western blot. The expression of 37 EV surface proteins was evaluated by flow cytometry using the MACSPlex Exosome kit. Results Lymphatic drainage exudate retrieved after surgery from all 7 patients contained EVs. The isolated EVs were positive for the typical EV markers CD9, CD63, CD81 and Flotillin-1 while albumin was absent, indicating low contamination from blood proteins. In total, 24 different EV surface proteins were detected. Eleven of those proteins were detected in all patients, including the common EV markers CD9, CD63 and CD81, cancer-related markers CD24, CD29, CD44 and CD146, platelet markers CD41b, CD42a and CD62p as well as HLA-DR/DP/DQ. Furthermore, CD29 and CD146 were enriched in Her2+ patients compared to patients with Her2- tumors. Conclusions Lymphatic drainage exudate retrieved from breast cancer patients after surgery contains EVs that can be isolated using SEC isolation. The EVs have several cancer-related markers including CD24, CD29, CD44 and CD146, proteins of potential interest as biomarkers as well as to increase the understanding of the mechanisms of cancer biology.
