  • Increasing the Photon Energy for Photonuclear Experiments in MAX-lab by Phase Modulating the SLED Pulse
  • 2016
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The nuclear physics facility at MAX-lab requires high energy electrons for photonuclear experiments. These electrons are first accelerated in two LINACs that are fed via a SLED system. Arcing in the waveguide structures is currently the limiting factor of the available electron energy. In this report, the implementation of a phase modulation scheme into the injector system is presented. This makes it possible to increase the power delivered to the LINACs and thereby increasing the energy gain without increasing the risk of arcing. Calculations of the available electron energy at the nuclear physics facility using focal plane detectors and tracking code is also presented.

  • Bunch Length Measurements with Passive Harmonic Cavities for Non-Uniform Fill Patterns in a 100 MHz RF
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: IPAC 2016 - Proceedings of the 7th International Particle Accelerator Conference. - 9783954501472 ; , s. 2918-2921
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The MAX IV facility includes two storage rings operated at 1.5 GeV and 3 GeV, which are both designed to operate with a uniform, multibunch fill pattern. Both rings have a 100 MHz RF system and employ passive harmonic cavities to damp instabilities and increase Touschek lifetime. Recently, a discussion on timing modes at the MAX IV storage rings has been initiated by the user community. Creating opportunities for timing experiments implies operating the rings with other fill patterns than the planned multibunch mode. Such operation can, however, cause transient effects in the passive harmonic cavities which affect the performance of the machine. It is therefore of interest to study the effect on the beam when operating with non-uniform fill patterns. This paper presents bunch length measurements at the 100 MHz MAX II storage ring for fill patterns with gaps. The purpose of the measurements was to evaluate the employed measurement method and simulation codes for future studies of various alternate fill patterns in the MAX IV storage rings.

  • The upgraded photon tagging facility at the MAX IV Laboratory
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments & Methods in Physics Research. Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors, and Associated Equipment. - : Elsevier BV. - 0167-5087 .- 0168-9002. ; 715, s. 1-10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A description is given of the upgraded photon tagging facility at the MAX IV Laboratory. Two magnetic spectrometers are used to momentum analyze post-bremsstrahlung electrons. The tagged photon range extends from 10 to 180 MeV with an energy resolution of about 300 keV. The system has been operated at rates up to 4 x 10(6) photons s(-1) MeV (-1). Different diagnostic tools are described as well as the experimental program.

  • The MAX IV Facility
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: 11th International Conference on Synchrotron Radiation Instrumentation (SRI 2012). - : IOP Publishing. - 1742-6588 .- 1742-6596. ; 425
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The MAX IV synchrotron radiation facility is currently being constructed in Lund, Sweden. The accelerator park consists of a 3 GeV linac injector and 2 storage rings operated at 1.5 and 3 GeV respectively. The linac injector will also be used for the generation of short Xray pulses. Close to 30 straight sections will be available for IDs at the rings. The three machines mentioned above are described below with some emphasis on the effort to create a very small emittance in the 3 GeV ring. Some unconventional technical solutions imposed by the emittance minimisation are discussed.

  • Measurement of the differential cross section for the two-body photodisintegration of He-3 at theta(LAB)=90 degrees using tagged photons in the energy range 14-31 MeV
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 80:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The two-body photodisintegration of He-3 has been investigated using tagged photons with energies from 14-31 MeV at MAX-lab in Lund, Sweden. The two-body breakup channel was unambiguously identified by the (nonsimultaneous) detection of both protons and deuterons. This approach was made feasible by the overdetermined kinematic situation afforded by the tagged-photon technique. Proton-and deuteron-energy spectra were measured using four silicon surface-barrier detector telescopes located at a laboratory angle of 90 degrees with respect to the incident photon-beam direction. Average statistical and systematic uncertainties of 5.7% and 6.6% in the differential cross section were obtained for 11 photon-energy bins with an average width of 1.2 MeV. The results are compared to previous experimental data measured at comparable photon energies as well as to the results of two recent Faddeev calculations which employ realistic potential models and take into account three-nucleon forces and final-state interactions. Both the accuracy and precision of the present data are improved over those obtained in the previous measurements. The data are in good agreement with most of the previous results, and favor the inclusion of three-nucleon forces in the calculations.
