  • Dymola and Modelica_EmbeddedSystems in Teaching-Experiences from a Project Course
  • 2009
  • swepub:Mat_conferencepaper_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • This contribution presents experiences from a master level project course where a Modelica-based tool, Dymola, supporting embedded control system design has been used. In a recent initiative, the Modelica language has been enhanced to support modeling of embedded systems and code generation targeted at micro processors. Then new specification is sup-ported by, e.g., Dymola and enables wide range of design tasks to be performed in a unified framework. Such tasks include software in the loop simulation to test controller code in simulation, hardware in the loop simulation, and final deployment on the target. In the context of teaching, the new features of Mod-elica/Dymola enable universities to offer a realistic environment providing students with hands on expe-riences from model-based control system development.

  • Efficacy of intra-articular bupivacaine, ropivacaine, or a combination of ropivacaine, morphine, and ketorolac on postoperative pain relief after ambulatory arthroscopic knee surgery : a randomized double-blind study
  • 2006

    • BACKGROUND: Effective pain relief is important after diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopic knee surgery to permit early discharge and improve comfort and mobility at home. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of bupivacaine, ropivacaine, or a combination of ropivacaine, morphine, and ketorolac injected intra-articularly for postoperative pain relief after arthroscopic knee surgery. METHODS: Sixty-three healthy patients undergoing knee arthroscopy under local anesthesia (LA) were randomized to receive 1 of the following substances intra-articularly postoperatively: group B: 30 mL of bupivacaine (150 mg); group R: 30 mL of ropivacaine (150 mg); and group RMK: ropivacaine 150 mg, morphine 4 mg, and ketorolac 30 mg in normal saline (total volume 30 mL). Oral paracetamol 1g and tramadol 50 mg were used as rescue drugs. Postoperatively, pain was assessed at rest and movement, and side effects were recorded. The patients were asked to self-assess pain for 7 days and record analgesic consumption as well as activities of daily living (ADLs). Plasma concentration of LA was measured in another 8 patients. RESULTS: All groups had excellent analgesia at 0 and 4 hours postoperatively. Group RMK had significantly lower visual analog pain score at rest at 8 hours and during movement at 8 and 24 hours compared with the other groups (P<.05). Group RMK required less paracetamol and tramadol on day 1 (P<.05), had less sleep disturbances because of pain, more patients were ready to work on days 1 and 2 (P<.05), and were more satisfied on days 1 and 4 to 7. Postoperatively, plasma concentrations of ropivacaine and lidocaine were far below known systemic toxic concentrations in all patients. CONCLUSION: Addition of morphine and ketolorac to ropivacaine intra-articularly enhances analgesic efficacy of LA, reduces postdischarge analgesic consumption, and improves ADLs without increasing side effects after ambulatory arthroscopic knee surgery.

  • Physicochemical and mineralogical properties of stainless steel slags oriented to metal recovery
  • 2004
  • record:In_t: Resources, Conservation and Recycling. - 0921-3449 .- 1879-0658. ; 40:3, s. 245-271
  • swepub:Mat_article_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • In the present paper, physicochemical and mineralogical properties of stainless steel slags oriented to metal recovery were studied by using various methods. The tests were conducted on two types of slag, namely EAF slag (Electric Arc Furnace) and AOD slag (Argon Oxygen Decarburisation). The samples were collected from the tailings of a slag processing plant operated by Bergslagens Stålservice AB in Sweden. Chemical analysis showed that the EAF and AOD samples contain 3.22% Cr and 0.075% Ni, and 1.71% Cr and 0.20% Ni respectively. Fe and Cr are mainly (about 70%) in the form of oxide while Ni is in the form of metal. Particle size analysis demonstrated that the EAF and AOD had been finely ground at the plant with 56 and 65% (−75 μm), respectively, containing a large amount of slime. According to X-ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and other studies, the main phases identified in EAF and AOD include Fe–Cr–Ni alloys, Fe–Cr oxides, Ca–Mg–Al silicates and Ca–Mg oxides (free CaO and periclase) with many mineral species. From SEM, Fe, Cr and Ni exist in the liberated alloy particles, association particles and complex particles. It is possible to recover the former two but the Fe–Cr–Ni in the latter one will not be easy to recover by mechanical separation. Some Cr also exists in the silicate phases and this Cr is impossible to recover by mechanical separation. However, Ni seldom exists in the silicate phases. Dissolution test showed that only a very small amount of EAF or AOD is dissolved in water, but in 1 M HCl solution, as high as 23.68% EAF and 31.04% AOD are dissolved, respectively. In addition, a phenomenon of particle size growth of the ground AOD was found and demonstrated by particle size analysis with a laser particle size analyzer and a Cyclosizer. Particle size growth of the ground EAF is not obvious, indicating that the hydraulic property of AOD is higher than EAF.
