  • Connecting the Baltic Area : The Swedish Postal System in the Seventeenth Century
  • 2011. - 1
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The establishment in Europe of a postal service revolutionized seventeenth century communications as well as the media landscape. Throughout most of Europe news, which rose sharply in volume, now traveled expeditiously. The comparative ease by which word could be sent helped new social and economic relationships flourish, intensifying the process of state-building. The consequences of this transformation for both postal workers and consumers alike permeate the work contained. The Post’s historical role must be considered in the context of European society at large. Focus should move away from its organization and development as an institution in isolation. That is the perspective shared by contributors to this anthology.

  • Handwritten Newspapers : An Alternative Medium during the Early Modern and Modern Periods
  • 2019
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This book is the first edited volume focusing on handwritten newspapers as an alternative medium from a wide interdisciplinary and international perspective. Our primary focus is on handwritten newspapers as a social practice. The case studies contextualize the source materials in relation to political, cultural, literary, and economic history. The analysis reveals both continuity and change across the different forms and functions of the textual materials. In the 16th century, handwritten newspapers evolved as a news medium reporting history in the making. It was both a rather expensive public commodity and a gift exchanged in social relationships. Both functions appealed to public elites and their news consumption for about 300 years. From the late 18th century onwards, changing notions of publicness as well as the social needs of private or even secluded groups re-defined the medium. Handwritten newspapers turned more and more into an internal or even clandestine medium of communication. As such, it has served as a means to create social cohesion, political debate, and religious education for nonelite groups until the 20th century. Despite these changes, continuities can be observed both in the material layout of handwritten newspapers and the practices of distribution.

  • Urban Life in Nordic Countries
  • 2023
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Based on empirical studies, this book investigates the particular urban history of the North from the 17th century until today in a comparative, Northern perspective.Urban Life in Nordic Countries is the result of a conference on "Urbanity in the Periphery" held in Stockholm on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Institute of Urban History at Stockholm University, aimed at establishing the field of the urban history of the North and creating a network of urban historians of the North. With a broad range of contributions from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Estonia, the volume seeks to further discourse on the region within national and transnational lenses, and to highlight possibilities for new cooperation among researchers.Urban history is a transdisciplinary subject, engaging not only historians but also ethnologists, sociologists, urban planners, and cultural geographers, and this book targets all scholars whose work requires a historical understanding of the Northern town. European urban historians outside the region will also find this text valuable as one of the few studies to consider the urban history of the continent from a North-centered viewpoint.

  • År : historiker berättar
  • 2020
Hur såg bostadsmarknaden ut i 1400-talets Stockholm? Skribenter: Anna Götlind, Magnus Linnarsson, Kurt Villads Jensen, Margaretha Nordquist, Gabriela Bjarne Larsen, Mats Hallenberg, Heiko Droste, Annika Sandén, Joakim Scherp,Pär Frohnert, Leos Mûller, Isak Hammar, Bo Eriksson, Nils Edling, Karin Carlsson, Mattias Tydén, Johnny Wijk, Maija Runcis, Jens Ljunggren, Ragni Svensson och Helena Tolvhed.Samtliga författare har anknytning till Historiska institutionen vid Stockholms universitet.
