- A central part of the nursing profession is the supervision in clinical practice of nursing students and a consequence of this is that the nurse needs to be prepared and have sufficient knowledge to support student's learning process. The aim of this study was to gain a deeper understanding of nurses' experiences of the supervision of nursing students in clinical practice. Fifteen nurses with experience of being supervisor were interviewed and the data material was analyzed with a Grounded Theory approach. The results comprise a core category “supervision was perceived as developing and stimulation” and four categories; to have sufficient with time, to have a working co-operation, to have sufficient knowledge and to get confirmation. These categories formed a conceptual model explaining the nurse’s experiences of the process of supervision and their needs of time, co-operation, knowledge and confirmation if the supervision should be perceived as developing and stimulating. More research needs to be conducted to expand the perspective on how supervision education and opportunities for reflection during the clinical education contribute to the student's learning process.

- The aim of this article is to discuss challenges in the development of Specialist Nursing Educations as a result of the 2007 Swedish Higher EducationReform: the implementation of the so-called Bologna process. Certain challenges follow this reform, particularly since the specialist nursingprogrammes will be part of the second cycle of the higher education system, and it will be possible to combine the professional degree witha masters degree (one year). Possible strategies in four areas related to the Specialist Nursing Education are discussed: integration of researchbasedknowledge, experienced-based knowledge, improvement knowledge, and strategies for collaboration between university institutions andclinics. Specific didactical issues are raised.

- The widespread use of web-based resources has dramatically increased access to scientifically based information of use to both health professionals and the general public. Scientific results are, however, often hard for people outside the scientific community to understand. Moreover, access to large amounts of information of various kinds often places insurmountable demands on the readers to understand, assess and select what is relevant and trustworthy. This article describes the development of «Thematic Room Stroke- care, social care and rehabilitation» at Vårdalinstitutet, the Swedish Institute for Health Sciences. This is a Swedish project resulting from close cooperation between an editing committee and about 30 researchers. It aims to present research findings on a website that healthcare teams, patients and their families and the public can easily access and use. A syllabus and texts connected with each theme may be downloaded for use in local study circles. The idea is to stimulate the participants’ interest in learning independently and create a forum for dialogue and discussion in different contexts. Professionals use the website material regularly for classes and informing patients. It is hoped that an interactive forum to determine how the information is understood and used will provide important feedback on how the virtual Thematic Room Stroke may be further improved

Stress and self-rated health : comparison between 26-year old Swedish women at intervals of twenty years

- In society of today there are great demands on young women concerning education, work and social life and also concerning health and beauty expectations. The aim of this study was to compare 26-year old Swedish women studied at intervals of twenty years concerning stress in daily life and self-rated health. The participants in 2002 (n=386) answered the same questionnaire that was used twenty years ago in a prospective population study (n=85). The result showed no difference in self-rated health between the two groups. However, women in 2002 reported more stress and health complaints such as exhaustion, sleep disorders, restlessness and difficulty concentration. They also reported low energy level and bad appetite. This discomfort must be interpreted with caution and not necessarily as ill health. However, it is important to take the experience of stress in daily life and the increase in health complaints into consideration even if women today rate their health as good in order to avoid lasting imbalance and thereby future diseases.

- The aim of this study was to highlight employees' experiences of interaction about persons who for some reason have come into contact withthe treatment of youth and/or substance abuse care in Sweden and Norway. Differences between ownership and regulation in Sweden andNorway on cooperation in drug treatment are discussed.The study was conducted using a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews with employees in operations involved with adults andadolescents and their families. As the study was small in scope, four respondents in four operations in three counties, it is not possible to draw anygeneral conclusions. However there was found in the interviews, supported from literature, important prerequisites for collaboration concerningyouth with substance abuse problems is to have good understanding of and respect for other professions. The need of having an understanding ofeach other's knowledge, decisions skills, flexibility and the resources available in the operations has also emerged. There is an ambition to getsynergy in work but there are parts of the law preventing cooperating. Another preventing factor is that several actors often are involved aroundthe person who seeks help. Where collaboration works there are often personal relationships involved between collaboration partners. Thismakes collaboration vulnerable since they rely on private networks that are at risk of disappearing as soon as a key person leaves the service.

- The purpose of this study was to describe degree projects on a bachelor level in nursing where peer review was used as quality assurance. Two student groups, 45 nursing students and seven registered nurses, participated. This case study describes quality assurance through collaboration between examiners. The results are focused on students´, supervisors´ and examiners` experiences during the degree process from the examiners perspective. Time disposal and criteria for a passing grade constituted factors associated with obstacles for students as well for supervisors and examiners. Peer review between two universities created opportunities for increasing awareness and validation of the quality of degree project and increased reliability for the examiner’s assessment. The study highlighted the need for collaboration between supervisors and examiners throughout the work process with student’s degree project. A model of group supervision e.g. with eight students, two supervisors and one examiner with regularly utilisation of peer-review for quality assurance is a further development to reach quality assurance in a degree project.

- The multicultural society has impact on the nursing profession and multicultural aspects of education have impacts on international cooperation. Materials from 10 years in a Nordic network within higher education institutions within nursing was analysed in order to develop cooperation, mobility, curriculum and research. Methods of benchmarking were used in analysing political documents, memorandum, descriptions of the institutions, course programs and reports from teachers and student. The result indicated that the process from planning to realization was unclear, ambitions were higher than outcomes; experiences of mobility were mostly described in terms of personal experiences, enriching and useful, but relations to political goals instituional strategies were invisible. Effects on academic subjects or competence were not reported,nor were they asked for. Weeklong courses with more participants were succesful. However the research method implied new insights in the results: experiences became visible effects beyond an individual level exists, but they had to be named and asked for.

- Background: A more complex and knowledge-based society has resulted in increasing specialization and greater demands on employees in the fields of practice. At Gjøvik University College, a new supervision model was tested for nursing students in practice. The main elements were: daily supervisors were given increased responsibility for assessing the students, while at the same time participating in three group counseling meetings. A portfolio contained the student’s work requirements. A weekly reflection hour was formalized. Purpose: The purpose was to elucidate how the supervision model influenced the student’s learning situation. Method: The SVIP model was evaluated by the use of focus group interviews. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Findings: Three categories: structure, inclusion and self-confidence describe the students’ need for clear guidelines and objectives, as well as their need to be included and to be seen. Conclusion: Various aspects of clinical practice, including daily supervision are important for student learning. Counseling meetings where the supervisor role is recognized and developed through the tutor, and daily supervisor sharing of experiences and knowledge, should permeate the cooperation.
