  • Development and Initial Validation of the NyTid Test : A Movement Assessment Tool for Compulsory School Pupils.
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science. - : Routledge. - 1091-367X .- 1532-7841. ; 19:1, s. 34-43
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study presents the development process and initial validation of the NyTid test, a process-oriented movement assessment tool for compulsory school pupils. A sample of 1,260 (627 girls and 633 boys; mean age of 14.39) Swedish school children participated in the study. In the first step, exploratory factor analyses (EFAs) were performed in Sample 1, consisting of one third of the participants. The EFA indicated that the 17 skills in the test could be reduced to 12 and divided into four factors. In the second step, the suggested factor structure was cross-validated with confirmatory factor analyses (CFAs) in the larger Sample 2. The NyTid test adopts a holistic perspective in which qualitative criteria offer an alternative approach to product-oriented measurement. The study confirms that the NyTid test is a valid process-oriented assessment tool designed for typically developed children aged 12 and 16. ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR

  • Assessing Students' Perceived Learning and Contentment in Physical Education : A Scale Development Study and Structural Equation Modeling Analysis
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science. - : Routledge. - 1091-367X .- 1532-7841. ; 23:3, s. 280-290

    • Although students' perceived learning is central in physical education (PE), few measurements are available. Furthermore, little is known about how students' perceptions of PE effect students' perceived learning in PE. Therefore, the aim was to develop a scale to assess students' perceived learning and a measurement to assess students' perceived contentment in PE, and furthermore, to analyze the interrelationship between students' perceived learning and students' perceived contentment in PE. A total of 1203 students in Sweden who were aged 12-16 years participated. The results from the exploratory (n = 601) and confirmatory (n = 602) factor analyses as well as the validity and reliability analyses showed that there was psychometric support for the one-dimensional model perceived learning in PE and for the three-dimensional model perceived contentment in PE. The structural equation modeling analyses showed that both competence and joyfulness were directly and positively related to students' perceived learning.

  • Assessing perceived need support and need satisfaction in physical education: adaptation and validation with English students
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1091-367X .- 1532-7841. ; 22:4, s. 332-342
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study aimed to validate an English version of Basic Psychological Needs Support Questionnaire (BPNSQ) and the Basic Psychological Needs in Physical Education Scale (BPN-PE) in the physical education context. Participants included 453 students aged between 12 and 17 years. For the BPNSQ, the hypothesized three-factor solution displayed high interfactor correlations (rs > 1), and a follow-up analysis indicated that the items were represented by a single need-support factor. For the BPN-PE, hypothesized three-factor solution was supported. Both scales were found invariant across gender, and the nomological validity was also demonstrated through the associations between factors of both scales. This study provides initial support for the use of the BPN-PE to assess psychological need satisfaction within the physical education context among English-speaking adolescents. The hypothesized three-factor structure of the BPNSQ was not supported and more research is needed to evaluate the English version in the physical education context.

  • Factorial validity and invariance testing of the exercise dependence scale-revised in Swedish and Portuguese exercisers
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science. - Philadelphia, PA : Routledge. - 1091-367X .- 1532-7841. ; 13:3, s. 166-179
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The present study investigated the factorial validity and factorial invariance of the 21-item Exercise Dependence Scale-Revised using 162 Swedish and 269 Portuguese exercisers. In addition, the prevalence of exercise dependence symptoms and links to exercise behavior, gender, and age in the two samples was also studied. Confirmatory factor analyses demonstrated that the hypothesized 7-factor model made a good fit to data in both samples. Multi-sample analyses supported partial measurement invariance across the samples; only factor loadings involving items 3 and 19 were noninvariant. The "Reduction in Other Activities" and "Lack of Control" factors were the most problematic scales in terms of average variance explained and reliability measures of weighted omega and Cronbach’s alpha. In total, 9.2% of the Swedish sample and 5.2% of the Portuguese sample were classified as at risk for exercise dependence. Overall, the results support the factorial validity of the translated Exercise Dependence Scale-Revised in samples outside North-America, although more research is needed. • How to measure coach burnout : an evaluation of three burnout measures
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science. - : Taylor & Francis Group. - 1091-367X .- 1532-7841. ; 18:3, s. 209-226
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Although coach burnout has been studied for 30 years, what measure to use in this context has not yet been problematized. This study focuses on evaluating convergent and discriminant validity of three coach burnout measures by using multi-trait/multi-method analysis (CT-C[M-1]) model. We choose Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), the two dimensional Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI), and a coach version of Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (CBQ). Our analysis shows that MBI and OLBI cover similar definitions of exhaustion and depersonalization/disengagement and that CBQ measures somewhat different dimensions. A problem for OLBI is a lack of discriminant validity due to high correlations between exhaustion and disengagement. For lack of personal accomplishment/reduced sense of accomplishment CBQ measures a somewhat different construct than MBI. Although all three measures have advantages and disadvantages, we promote CBQ since it discriminates between dimensions and covers important aspects of burnout in a sports context that the other two do not cover.
