  • Stretching-tunable external-cavity laser locked by an elastic silicone grating
  • 2006
  • record:In_t: Optics Express. - 1094-4087. ; 14:25, s. 11982-11986
  • swepub:Mat_article_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • We demonstrate wavelength locking of a diode laser at 760 nm with feedback from an elastic transmission grating in the Littrow configuration. The laser was in a single longitudinal mode with a side-mode suppression of 20 dB. By stretching the grating the laser could be tuned over a few nm. The grating was fabricated in a silicone elastomer ( polydimethylsiloxane) by a moulding technique, and coated by a thin layer of Ti and Au to achieve an increased diffraction efficiency needed for efficient locking.

  • Frequency-doubling in femtosecond laser inscribed periodically-poled potassium titanyl phosphate waveguides
  • 2007

    • Frequency doubling has been achieved in femtosecond-laser-inscribed single-mode waveguides written in two periodically-poled potassium titanyl phosphate crystals. A conversion efficiency of 0.22 %W-1 was obtained for first-order quasi-phase matching at 980 nm and an efficiency of 0.02 %W-1 for third-order quasi-phase matching at 800 nm.

  • Fluidic trapping and optical detection of microparticles with a functional optical fiber
  • 2017
  • record:In_t: Optics Express. - : Optical Society of America. - 1094-4087. ; 25:26, s. 33657-33663

    • A fiber probe is presented that traps single micro-sized particles and allows detection of their optical properties. The trapping mechanism used is based on fluid suction with a micro-structured optical fiber that has five holes along its cladding. Proof-of-principle experiments with a diluted solution of fluorescently labeled particles are performed. The fiber probe presented here may find various applications in life-science and environmental monitoring. ©

  • High-peak power nanosecond optical parametric amplifier with periodically poled KTP
  • 2003
  • record:In_t: Optics Express. - 1094-4087. ; 11:11, s. 1297-1302
  • swepub:Mat_article_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • A two-stage optical parametric amplifier generating 5 ns 208 kW peak power pulses in the spectral region at 1.535 mum in a diffraction-limited beam was realized in a single periodically poled KTP crystal. The maximum small-signal gain for the two stages reached 75dB and the total conversion efficiency was 30%. An analysis of the small-signal gain dependence on the M-2 of the pump beam is presented for the collinear and noncollinear OPA. Efficient spectral broadening of the signal was demonstrated in short pieces of single-mode telecommunication fiber.

  • Optical parametric amplification of a gain-switched picosecond laser diode
  • 2005
  • record:In_t: Optics Express. - 1094-4087. ; 13:17, s. 6482-6489
  • swepub:Mat_article_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • Optical parametric amplification, employing periodically poled KTiOPO4 as the gain medium, was used to amplify radiation emitted by a gain-switched laser diode. The pulses, which had durations between 20 ps and 2 ns, were amplified with up to 50 dB in a double stage set-up and reached pulse energies of 1 and 23 mu J, respectively.

  • Quasi-two-level Yb:KYW laser with a volume Bragg grating
  • 2007
  • record:In_t: Optics Express. - 1094-4087. ; 15:21, s. 13930-13935
  • swepub:Mat_article_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • Using a volume Bragg grating as input coupler, we demonstrate an Yb:KYW laser with a very small quantum defect (1.6%) and an output power of 3.6 W. The laser was longitudinally diode-pumped at 982 nm and the laser wavelength was determined by the grating to 998 nm, with a laser bandwidth of 10 GHz (33 pm). Due to the low quantum defect, the laser should be readily scalable to 20 W or more without critical thermal effects.

  • Cavity length resonances in a nanosecond singly resonant optical parametric oscillator
  • 2010
  • record:In_t: Optics Express. - 1094-4087. ; 18:10, s. 10742-10749
  • swepub:Mat_article_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • Resonant output energy enhancement in a singly resonant nondegenerate type-I optical parametric oscillator with a volume Bragg grating output coupler is demonstrated. The resonances occur when the pump laser and parametric oscillator cavity length ratio is an integer or a fraction of small integers. Although the length resonances are similar to those observed in doubly resonant optical parametric oscillators, the physical mechanism is distinctly different. The resonances in the singly resonant oscillator are caused by correlation of the instantaneous power between the quasi-periodic multimode pump laser beam and the OPO signal.

  • Mode spectrum of multi-longitudinal mode pumped near-degenerate OPOs with volume Bragg grating output couplers
  • 2009
  • record:In_t: Optics Express. - 1094-4087. ; 17:20, s. 17582-17589
  • swepub:Mat_article_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • Spectral requirements for the first stage OPO used to pump a tandem ZGP mid-infrared OPO are theoretically investigated. Based on these requirements we demonstrate a singly-resonant type-I OPO including periodically poled KTiOPO4 and volume-Bragg gratings as output couplers. Singly resonant oscillation is demonstrated very close to degeneracy, where signal and idler spectra are not well separated. Investigations of the longitudinal mode spectrum and the idler spectrum with high resolution using a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer show the essential role played by the phase correlations of the multi-longitudinal mode Q-switched pump laser in formation of the nonresonant idler spectrum.

  • Influence of pre-annealing on the thermal regeneration of fiber Bragg gratings in standard optical fibers
  • 2015
  • record:In_t: Optics Express. - : Optical Society of America. - 1094-4087. ; 23:21, s. 27520-27535
  • swepub:Mat_article_t (swepub:level_refereed_t)abstract
    • A detailed study of the dynamics during thermal regeneration of fiber Bragg gratings, written in hydrogen-loaded standard single-mode fibers using a ns pulsed 213 nm UV laser, is reported. Isothermal pre-annealing performed in the range 85 degrees C to 1100 degrees C, with subsequent grating regeneration at 1100 degrees C, resulted in a maximum refractive index modulation, Delta n(m) similar to 1.4.10(-4), for gratings pre-annealed near 900 degrees C while a minimum value of Delta n(m) similar to 2.10(-5) was achieved irrespective of pre-annealing temperature. This optimum denote an inflection point between opposing thermally triggered processes, which we ascribe to the reaction-diffusion mechanism of molecular water and hydroxyl species in silica. The results shed new light on the mechanisms underlying thermal grating regeneration in optical fibers.
