  • The brand personalities of brand communities : an analysis of online communication
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Online information review (Print). - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 1468-4527 .- 1468-4535. ; 41:7, s. 1064-1075
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeOnline brand communities provide a wealth of insights about how consumers perceive and talk about a brand, rather than what the firm communicates about the brand. The purpose of this paper is to understand whether the brand personality of an online brand community, rather than of the brand itself, can be deduced from the online communication within that brand community.Design/methodology/approachThe paper is empirical in nature. The authors use community-generated content from eight online brand communities and perform content analysis using the text analysis software Diction. The authors employ the five brand personality dictionaries (competence, excitement, ruggedness, sincerity and sophistication) from the Pitt et al. (2007) dictionary source as the basis for the authors’ analysis.FindingsThe paper offers two main contributions. First, it identifies two types of communities: those focusing on solving functional problems that consumers might encounter with a firm’s offering and those focusing on broader engagement with the brand. Second, the study serves as a blueprint that marketers can adopt to analyze online brand communities using a computerized approach. Such a blueprint is beneficial not only to analyze a firm’s own online brand community but also that of competitors, thus providing insights into how their brand stacks up against competitor brands.Originality/valueThis is the first paper examining the nature of online brand communities by means of computerized content analysis. The authors outline a number of areas that marketing scholars could explore further based on the authors analysis. The paper also highlights implications for marketers when establishing, managing, monitoring and analyzing online brand communities

  • Pulp mill fly ash for stabilization of low-volume unpaved forest roads — field performance
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Canadian journal of civil engineering (Print). - : Canadian Science Publishing. - 0315-1468 .- 1208-6029. ; 41:11, s. 955-963
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Increased temperatures and rainfalls will give more settlements and less bearing capacity in gravel roads, which will have implications for the forestry. Pulp mill fly ash without additives was used for stabilizing the road base of a low-volume gravel road. A two-year monitoring of the road was conducted, including measurements of achieved ash content, density, water infiltration capacity, and load bearing capacity. The results showed that the ash-stabilized sections performed better than conventionally upgraded sections and also achieved increased bearing capacity over time. Hydration of the fly ash increased the stiffness and decreased the permeability of the road base. The differences were more pronounced during spring thaw. Best performance was achieved in the section with thicker ash stabilized layer.

  • Essentially Political : Gender and the Politics of Care in Mumbai
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: International feminist journal of politics. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1461-6742 .- 1468-4470. ; 12:1, s. 25-44
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of this article is to examine the gendered politics of social work in the Indian city of Mumbai, locating it in a post-colonial context. In order to do this secondary sources are examined along with empirical data collected by the authors. These are interpreted through the framework of a social constructionist methodology that draws on political sociology as well as elements of post-colonial theory and Foucauldian post-structuralism in order to acknowledge agency within a 'location' marked by both constraints and opportunities. The article explores the circumstances in which politicians and administrators find themselves in Mumbai. In considering gender and developing a strategy of what we term 'political essentialism', it is shown that those involved have been drawing on experiences in civil society and using imagined dualisms of gender to position themselves as shapers of social work in Mumbai.

  • Amazon Mechanical Turk and the Commodification of labour
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: New technology, work and employment. - : Wiley. - 0268-1072 .- 1468-005X. ; 29:3, s. 213-223
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Crowd employment platforms enable firms to source labour and expertise by leveraging Internet technology. Rather than offshoring jobs to low-cost geographies, functions once performed by internal employees can be outsourced to an undefined pool of digital labour using a virtual network. This enables firms to shift costs and offload risk as they access a flexible, scalable workforce that sits outside the traditional boundaries of labour laws and regulations. The micro-tasks of 'clickwork' are tedious, repetitive and poorly paid, with remuneration often well below minimum wage. This article will present an analysis of one of the most popular crowdsourcing sites-Mechanical Turk-to illuminate how Amazon's platform enables an array of companies to access digital labour at low cost and without any of the associated social protection or moral obligation.

  • A CFD-based evaluation of Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction of Nitric Oxide in iron ore grate-kiln plants
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Progress in Computational Fluid Dynamics, An International Journal. - 1468-4349 .- 1741-5233. ; 15:1, s. 32-46
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The overall goal of this study is to explore the function of selective non-catalytic reduction of nitric oxide (NO) in iron ore grate-kiln plants. Computational fluid dynamics is used to model the flow and the injection of urea and cyanuric acid reagents. Temperature, residence time and inlet NO content are varied, and the effects on the reduction of NO are studied. The simulations show that the use of urea results in a higher reduction of NO within the temperature window investigated as compared to cyanuric acid; however, urea cannot be used for NO reduction over the entire range of applicable temperatures. Cyanuric acid is usable within the entire temperature range for high NO content (i.e., 300 ppm) in the flue gas, but it is not effective for low NO concentration (i.e., 150 ppm). Moreover, the simulations indicate that temperature has a larger influence on the NO reduction than the residence time.

  • A validated CFD model for prediction of selective non-catalytic reduction of nitric oxide by cyanuric acid
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Progress in Computational Fluid Dynamics, An International Journal. - 1468-4349 .- 1741-5233. ; 16:2, s. 108-117
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A CFD model for selective non-catalytic reduction of nitric oxide by cyanuric acid (RAPid REduction of Nitrogen Oxides, RAPRENOx process) is compared against reactor experiments. The numerical simulations were carried out solving the flow field. A model for the RAPRENOx chemistry was then included in the model enabling a study of the chemistry in the reactor. The simulations showed that the proposed chemistry model is valid under certain conditions. There is an especially good agreement for high O2 concentrations while the model failed in reproducing the experimental data for 0% H2O

  • CFD-modelling of selective non-catalytic reduction of NOx in grate-kiln plants
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Progress in Computational Fluid Dynamics, An International Journal. - 1468-4349 .- 1741-5233. ; 10:5/6, s. 284-291
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The overall goal of this project is to find out if Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) technologies can be used in grate-kiln plants for NOx reduction. The technique has, to the best knowledge of the authors, never been used in this context before, despite that it is commonly used in cement and waste incineration plants. A model for spray injection into the grate was included in the model enabling a study of the overall mixing between the injected reagent droplets and the NOx polluted air. The simulations indicate that the SNCR-technique works with urea, but not with ammonia.
