  • Mindful' human resource management : combining Buddhist principles of enlightenment with diversity management
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Management Concepts and Philosophy. - : Inderscience. - 1478-1484 .- 1741-8135. ; 14:2, s. 114-134
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Over the last two decades, numerous organisational scholars have emphasised the importance of enhancing ethics and workplace diversity within organisations. The aim of the present article is to present a workplace diversity perspective on human resource management by advancing the notion of mindful human resource management that builds upon Buddhism's notions of wisdom, ethical conduct, and concentration, thus facilitating a steady form of attention and a non-judgmental state of mind. We propose that combining the three characteristics of the Buddhist path can help human resource managers to be more ethically minded, diversity conscious, compassionate, and caring in their decisions and actions.

  • Fandom as a mode of second production : Active audienceship of the rising shadow
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Management Concepts and Philosophy. - 1478-1484 .- 1741-8135. ; 7:3/4, s. 245-262
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Looking and visuality imply an audience. The aim of this paper is to open audience’s passive role as a communicative receiver for discussion. The paper will focus on the productive practices of a digital fandom network of science fiction and fantasy genre literature. It connects Walter Benjamin’s notions of the afterlife of texts and the translator’s task (1924, 1936) to fandom as a productive network (Fiske, 1992; Jenkins, 1992). The empirical analysis draws from an ethnographic study of a Finnish science fiction and fantasy literature fandom Rising Shadow digital network, www.risingshadow.net. The analysis illuminates how networked exchanges produce translation zones and loving closeness as a form of afterlife of genre texts facilitating learning, accumulation of expertise within fandom network, and even professional development that is linked to commercial publishing and fan production in media.

  • How incentive systems arrived in Sweden : a tale of travelling ideas and ghost myths in action
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Management Concepts and Philosophy. - : Inderscience Publishers. - 1478-1484 .- 1741-8135. ; 11:1, s. 67-81
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper describes and explains how and why incentive systems began spreading in Sweden, despite the differences between the dominating business values in the USA (where incentive systems originated) and Sweden. A ghost myth in Sweden’s national business system explains why it happened when it did. Theories on travelling ideas underemphasise the fact that organisations/countries hold varying and competing ideas of suitable practices at the same time. Ghost myths are important alternative concepts which are activated when contextual circumstances arise for a shift in practices. This research is based on a hermeneutic and qualitative approach using texts and interviews and it highlights the role of ghost myths in terms of how ideas travel and how they are translated in different contexts.

  • Is leadership a visible phenomenon? On the (im)possibility of studying leadership
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Management Concepts and Philosophy. - 1478-1484. ; 7:3-4, s. 174-188
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper draws on Jean–Luc Marion's notion of non–objective phenomena to discuss the difficulty of studying leadership. Marion conceptualises non–objective phenomena as phenomena that cannot be captured by scientific methods. Attempts to do so result in a poor understanding of the phenomenon as it gives itself. Put differently: non–objective phenomena remain invisible to the gaze of the researcher. The paper shows how leadership scholars are indecisive about the question of whether leadership is to be understood as an objective or as a non–objective phenomenon. Or more precisely they tend to understand leadership as a non–objective phenomenon, but study leadership as if it were objective. This mismatch, the paper suggests, explains why leadership studies tends to oscillate between objectivist science and (pseudo) religious image making and why it struggles to find a foothold in either sphere. In light of this problem, the paper suggests 'leadership image studies' as a possible way forward.
