  • Learner Corpus Anonymization in the Age of GDPR: Insights from the Creation of a Learner Corpus of Swedish
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 7th Workshop on NLP for Computer Assisted Language Learning (NLP4CALL 2018) at SLTC, Stockholm, 7th November 2018 / edited by Ildikó Pilán, Elena Volodina, David Alfter and Lars Borin. - Linköpings universitet : Linköping University Electronic Press. - 1650-3686 .- 1650-3740. - 9789176851739
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reports on the status of learner corpus anonymization for the ongoing research infrastructure project SweLL. The main project aim is to deliver and make available for research a well-annotated corpus of essays written by second language (L2) learners of Swedish. As the practice shows, annotation of learner texts is a sensitive process demanding a lot of compromises between ethical and legal demands on the one hand, and research and technical demands, on the other. Below, is a concise description of the current status of pseudonymization of language learner data to ensure anonymity of the learners, with numerous examples of the above-mentioned compromises.

  • Automatic identification of construction candidates for a Swedish constructicon
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the workshop on lexical semantic resources for NLP at NODALIDA 2013, May 22-24, 2013, Oslo, Norway. NEALT Proceedings Series 19. - 1650-3686 .- 1650-3740. ; , s. 2-11
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present an experiment designed for extracting construction candidates for a Swedish constructicon from text corpora. We have explored the use of hybrid n-grams with the practical goal to discover previously undescribed partially schematic constructions. The experiment was successful, in that quite a few new constructions were discovered. The precision is low, but as a push-button tool for construction discovery, it has proven a valuable tool for the work on a Swedish constructicon.

  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 21st Nordic Conference on Computational Linguistics, NoDaLiDa, 22-24 May 2017, Gothenburg, Sweden. - Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press, Linköpings universitet. - 1650-3686 .- 1650-3740. - 9789176856017
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cognitive and mental deterioration, such as difficulties with memory and language, are some of the typical phenotypes for most neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia forms. This paper describes the first phases of a project that aims at collecting various types of cognitive data, acquired from human subjects in order to study relationships among linguistic and extra-linguistic observations. The project’s aim is to identify, extract, process, correlate, evaluate, and disseminate various linguistic phenotypes and measurements and thus contribute with complementary knowledge in early diagnosis, monitor progression, or predict individuals at risk. In the near future, automatic analysis of these data will be used to extract various types of features for training, testing and evaluating automatic classifiers that could be used to differentiate individuals with mild symptoms of cognitive impairment from healthy, age-matched controls and identify possible indicators for the early detection of mild forms of cognitive impairment. Features will be extracted from audio recordings (speech signal), the transcription of the audio signals (text) and the raw eye-tracking data.

  • Very necessary: the meaning of non-gradable modal adjectives in discourse contexts
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Selected contributions from the Eighth Swedish Language Technology Conference (SLTC-2020), 25-27 November 2020 / Peter Ljunglöf, Simon Dobnik and Richard Johansson (editors).. - Linköping, Sweden : Linköping University Electronic Press. - 1650-3686 .- 1650-3740. - 9789179290313
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we provide a quantitative and qualitative analysis of meaning of allegedly non-gradable modal adjectives in different discourse contexts. The adjectives studied are essential, necessary, crucial and vital which are compared with a gradable modal adjective important. In our study sentences containing these adjectives were chosen from a large corpus together with their contexts. Then 120 English native speakers evaluated the meaning of these adjectives in a crowd-sourced study. Different types of contexts were chosen for this purpose. In some the adjectives were used as gradable with a modifier very while in others as non-gradable, without a modifier. We also modified the contexts by adding or removing the modifier very. The task for evaluators was to provide a replacement for adjectives for all the resulting contexts. From the replacements we are able to quantitatively evaluate the semantic potential of these contexts and what kind of adjectives they license.

  • Evaluating the greenhouse gas impact from biomass gasification systems in industrial clusters – methodology and examples
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of World Renewable Energy Congress. - : Linköping University Electronic Press. - 1650-3686. - 9789173930703 ; 12:057, s. 3098-3105
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Biomass gasification is identified as one of the key technologies for producing biofuels for the transport sector and can also produce many other types of products. Biomass gasification systems are large-scale industrial systems and it is important to evaluate such systems from economic, environmental and synergetic perspectives before implementation. The objective of this study is to define a methodology for evaluating the greenhouse gas (GHG) impact of different biomass gasification systems and to exemplify the methodology. The ultimate purpose of the methodology is to evaluate the GHG performance of different biomass gasification systems integrated in industrial clusters. A life cycle perspective is applied. Most biomass gasification systems are multiproduct systems, simultaneously producing biofuels, heat at different temperatures and pressures and electricity. The value, in economic terms and in terms of GHG emissions, is well defined for some products (e.g. biofuels), whereas for other products (such as heat and electricity) it is more uncertain and in some cases dependent on time and location.

  • Using an adaptive FEM to determine the optimal control of a vehicle during a collision avoidance manoeuvre
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Linköping Universtity Electronic Press. - 1650-3740. ; 27:15
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The optimal manoeuvering of a vehicle during a collision avoidance manoeuvre is investigated. A basic model where the vehicle is modelled by a mass-particle and the mathematical formulation of the optimal manoeuvre are presented. The resulting two-point boundary problem is solved by an adaptive finite element method and the theory behind this method is described.

  • Development of European evidence-based recommendations for evaluation of the upper limb neurorehabilitation
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 4th Baltic and North Sea Conference on Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. Riga, Latvia September 16–18, 2015. Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine.. - 1650-1977.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Background Although use of standardized and scientifically sound outcome measures is highly encouraged in clinical practice and research, there is still no clear recommendation on which tools should be preferred for upper limb assessment. Agreement on measures in neurorehabilitation is also required to facilitate multi-center research and meta-analysis. The European Network on Robotics for Neurorehabilitation, funded by the European Co-operation in science and technology (COST) action is developing evidence-based recommendations for evaluation of the upper limb in neurorehabilitation. The primary aim of the recommendations is to improve the quality of upper limb neurorehabilitation through the adoption of standardized, agreed protocols for assessment and choice of measurement tools in research and clinical practice. The secondary aim is to inform and influence the development of new upper limb neurorehabilitation technologies both as therapies and assessment tools and to translate useful technologies into clinical practice. Methods The Recommendations will incorporate 3 sources of evidence: systematic reviews of upper limb outcome measures, current clinical guidelines and Delphi consensus methodology in stroke and neurorehabilitation. Results Systematic reviews: From 13 systematic reviews, 53 measures were identified of which 13 met the standardized criteria for the psychometric properties. The strongest level of measurement quality and clinical utility was demonstrated for Fugl-Meyer Assessment, Action Research Arm Test, Box and Block Test, Chedoke Arm and Hand Activity Inventory, Wolf Motor Function Test and ABILHAND. Clinical guidelines: Both National and published guidelines recommend assessment within the ICF framework. The National Guidelines provide little guidance on assessment beyond that valid, reliable and responsive measurement tools should be used by trained personnel. Delphi consensus: Consensus recommends a framework for assessment including categories and, where possible, specific measures (clinical and technology-based), definition of a minimum set of measures, duration and frequency for assessments. Conclusions The final recommendations will include the purpose of assessment, recommendations on when and by whom assessments should be conducted, how long an assessment should take and what measures and tools should be used. Recommendations are made for clinical practice and research separately. A minimum set of measures will be recommended for use with all patients undergoing upper limb neurorehabilitation.
