  • Labelling of interneurones by retrograde transsynaptic transport of horseradish peroxidase from motoneurones in rats and cats
  • 1984
  • Ingår i: Neuroscience Letters. - : Elsevier BV. - 0304-3940. ; 45, s. 15-19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Transsynaptic transport of conjugates of wheat germ agglutinin with horseradish peroxidase (WGA-HRP) has been studied in rats and cats. WGA-HRP was injected into a muscle nerve from which it was first transported to motoneurones and along sensory fibres, and secondarily to interneurones. More extensive labelling of interneurones occurred in preparations with only relevant ventral roots intact than in preparations with only dorsal roots intact, which indicates that the transsynaptic transport of WGA-HRP is primarily in the retrograde direction, i.e. from motoneurones to interneurones. Such a transport appeared to be considerably enhanced by neuronal activity. © 1984.

  • Intraneural stimulation as a method to study sympathetic function in the human skin.
  • 1983
  • Ingår i: Neuroscience Letters. - : Elsevier BV. - 0304-3940 .- 1872-7972. ; 36:2, s. 189-194
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Intraneural electrical stimulation of sympathetic postganglionic axons was made in human skin nerves combined with recordings of skin resistance and a photoelectric pulse plethysmogram within the innervation zone. Tungsten microelectrodes were used first to record multiunit sympathetic activity in sural or median nerves. After blocking the nerve with local anaesthetics proximal to the recording site the electrodes were then used for intraneural stimulation. Stimulation led to reduction of skin resistance which was frequency dependent. A short train of stimuli reduced skin resistance transiently and the response was potentiated by a single stimulus delivered up to 2.5 min. prior to the train. Vasoconstrictor responses did not always occur and were relatively independent of stimulation frequency. The method may be useful for physiological and pathophysiological studies of sympathetic neuroeffector transmission in man.

  • Segmental action of morphine and acupuncture-like stimulation in the dorsal horn of the rat as visualized by the 14C-2-deoxyglucose method
  • 1980
  • Ingår i: Neuroscience Letters. - 0304-3940. ; 19:SUPPL. 5, s. 107-107
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is not clear where analgesic measures such as morphine and acupuncture have their sites of action. Since analgesia from acupuncturelike stimulation is reversed by naloxone (Sjolund and Eriksson, Brain Res. 173:295, 1979) it is probably mediated via endorphins. The two analgesic procedures mentioned may thus use similar inhibitory mechanisms. We now present data from autoradiographic measurements of regional 'nervous' activity (Sokoloff et al., J. Neurochem., 28:897, 1977) in the rat spinal cord, indicating that the inhibition is present already in the outer dorsal horn laminae.
