  • Designing and Assessing Learning in Venture Creation Programs - Winner of Best Practitioner Development Workshop Award
  • 2018
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Workshop Summary In Venture Creation Programs the venture acts as a ‘learning vessel’, enabling what students need to learn - and more - given a greater or lesser extent of guidance. But how do we ensure that the students are engaging in ‘doing what they need to do’ in order to ‘learn what they need to learn’? In this workshop, participants will benchmark and crowdsource to identify and develop teaching tool prototypes for venture creation programs. Each ‘teaching tool’ consist of a learning objective, a combination of learning activities and an assessment suggestion. The workshop consists of two steps: the first is to capture learning activities from the entire group; then we divide into smaller groups where we develop them further into teaching tools. The teaching tools can later be used by the participants in their home university in order to package integrated venture activities so that the activities become aligned to the learning objectives.

  • Levelling the playing field: Could entrepreneurship education compensate the lack of entrepreneurial pedigree and prior experience?
  • 2022
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Questions we care about: In the last four decades, the importance of entrepreneurship education for societal renewal has seen a dramatic rise. Policy arguments state that to spur economic development, a more entrepreneurially oriented workforce is needed. To increase our understanding of how entrepreneurship education impacts entrepreneurial careers, the purpose of this paper is to investigate how entrepreneurship education, in the form of venture creation programs (VCPs), mitigate or surpass a lack of entrepreneurial career antecedents, such as entrepreneurial pedigree or prior entrepreneurial experience. We ask: What role do VCPs play in the subsequent career choice of graduates regarding career impact relative to prior entrepreneurial experience and entrepreneurial pedigree? Approach: This paper investigates the role of VCPs, entrepreneurial pedigree, and prior entrepreneurial experience regarding early career choice. A broad perspective of entrepreneurial career is considered, across four occupational forms: self-employed, entrepreneurial employment (intrapreneur), hybrid (self-employed and employed in parallel), and conventional employment. To investigate career choice, data from graduates of VCPs at three universities in Northern Europe was collected through an online survey. Questions addressed graduate background prior to education, yearly occupational employment subsequent to graduation, and graduates’ own perception of entrepreneurial activity in employment positions. The survey was sent to 1326 graduates (total graduate population = 1568) and received 692 responses (52.2% response rate). Results: The educational context of VCPs, whether Ind-VCP or Corp-VCP, mitigated prior entrepreneurial experience. Although prior entrepreneurial experience interacted with Ind-VCP in making a career as self-employed more likely, this was not the case for Corp-VCP, in subsequently choosing intrapreneurial careers. Entrepreneurial pedigree had no significant effect on career choice other than for hybrid careers. Implications: Entrepreneurial experience gained from VCPs seems to influence graduates towards future entrepreneurial careers. For some, a VCP is the first entrepreneurial experience, while others are building existing entrepreneurial experiences. Evidence supports the conclusion that many VCP graduates lacking prior entrepreneurial experience instead develop entrepreneurial competencies (knowledge, skills, and judgmental abilities) through the program, which prepares them to engage in subsequent entrepreneurial careers. For policy and practice, entrepreneurship education can level the playing field for students aspiring to an entrepreneurial career but lacking prior entrepreneurial experience or entrepreneurial pedigree. This is an important insight when considering the need to spur innovativeness among businesses transitioning towards sustainable futures and/or recouping from the economic downturns created and perpetuated by the pandemic. Our evidence illustrates that action-based, contextualized education in entrepreneurship creates graduates that engage either as self-employed or as change agents (working with initiating and developing new opportunities) in established businesses. Value/Originality: This study offers novel evidence that entrepreneurship education can level the playing field for students preparing for entrepreneurial careers but lacking prior entrepreneurial experience or an entrepreneurial pedigree.

  • Microwave properties of tunable capacitors basee on magnetron sputtered ferroelectric Na0.5K0.5NbO3 film on low and high resistivity silicon substrates
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Integrated Ferroelectrics. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1058-4587 .- 1607-8489. ; 39:1-4, s. 359-366
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this work, small signal DC voltage dependent dielectric permittivity, loss tangent, and tuneability of magnetron sputtered epitaxial Na0.5K0.5NO3 films are studied experimentally. (100)-oriented Na0.5K0.5NbO3 films are deposited onto SiO2-buffered CMOS grade low resistivity (p = 10-20 cm) and high resistivity (p = 15-45 kcm) silicon substrates. Planar capacitors with 2 or 4 m gaps between electrodes have been fabricated on top of ferroelectric films. These devices have been characterized in the frequency range 1.0 MHz to 50 GHz at temperatures 30 - 300K. Na0.5K0.5NbO3/SiO2/Si structures on high resistivity silicon substrate exhibit C-V performances typical for Metal-Insulator- Semiconductor (MIS) capacitors. At low frequencies, f 1.0 GHz, the large tuneability and large losses are associated with the MIS structure, while at higher microwave frequencies the tuneability is mainly associated with the ferroelectric, film. At 1.0 MHz and room temperature, the tuneability of Na0.5K0.5NbO3/SiO2/Si structures more than 90%, reducing to 10-15 % at 50 GHz. The losses decrease with increasing the DC bias and frequency. A Q-factor more than 15 at 50 GHz is observed. The dielectric permittivity of the Na0.5K0.5NbO3 film is in the range 50-150 at frequencies 0.045-50 GHz. On low resistivity substrate the performance of Na0.5K0.5NbO3 films is completely screened by the high losses in silicon, and the tuneability is negligible. © 2001 Taylor and Francis.

  • An E-Band(71-76, 81-86 GHz) Balanced Frequency Tripler for High-Speed Communications
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: APMC: 2009 ASIA PACIFIC MICROWAVE CONFERENCE. - 9781424428014 ; 1-5, s. 1184-1187
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • An E-Band transistor-based balanced frequency tripler is implemented using a 0.15 mu m GaAs mHEMT process which can be integrated into a single-chip RF front-end. The balanced configuration with 90 degrees hybrids at the input and output improves the port impedance matching which is measured to be better than 15 dB at the input and 10 dB at the output over the frequencies of interest. The tripler has a conversion loss of 11.5 dB from 71 GHz to 76 GHz and 14 dB from 81 GHz to 86 GHz. The second and forth harmonics are suppressed by more than 30 dB and the fundamental frequency by 20 dB. The tripler can deliver -2 dBm output power.

  • Direct carrier quadrature modulator and Demodulator MMICs for 60 GHz gigabit wireless communications
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference Proceedings (APMC 2011; Melbourne, VIC; 5 - 8 December 2011). - 9780858259744 ; , s. 1134-1137
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A 60 GHz direct carrier quadrature modulator is designed and fabricated in 0.15 μm mHEMT technology. The design is based on passive mixers and therefore reciprocal which makes it possible to be used both as modulator and demodulator. The modulator has an input bandwidth of 0-5 GHz on each of the I and Q ports and an RF bandwidth of 53-68 GHz. Carrier leakage to the output port is eliminated by addition of an inductive path from the LO port to the RF port. The modulator requires 5 dBm LO power and can output up to -6 dBm RF power in linear region and up to -4 dBm when driven into saturation. When operated as an SSB mixer, the conversion loss is measured to be 11 dB and image and LO signals are suppressed by as much as 30 dB compared to the desired signal. For demonstration, a pair of the presented modulator/demodulator is used to transmit 7Gbps BPSK signal over 1m and 10Gbps QPSK signal over 0.5m wireless link.

  • Comparison of switching surges and basic lightning impulse surges at transformer in MV cable grids
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Nordic Wind Power Conference, Bornholm, Danmark.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The electric transients generated during the switching of a breaker placed near the transformer in a system with a substantial amount of cables can have a very short rise time and can reach very high magnitudes. In practice, the magnitude of the voltage surges is usually limited using the surge arresters while the rise time of the surge to which the apparatus is exposed, remains unchanged. In this paper, the characteristic of the switching transients generated in the MV cable grids are analyzed. For this purpose, cases with both dry-type and oil insulated transformers are studied. These cases are typical for a MV industrial grid and a wind park (WP) collection grid. Furthermore, the case with and without surge arrester protection is analyzed in order to observe the impact of the surge arresters on the voltage surges.Simulations show that the magnitude of the voltage surges exceeds the basic lightning impulse insulation level (BIL) defined by present standards. Furthermore, the rise time of the voltage surges is much shorter compared to the rise time of the lightning impulse especially in the case of the dry-type transformers and the WP collection grid. When surge arresters are used, the magnitude of the surges is limited to the BIL but the rise times of the surges can be twenty five times shorter compared to the BIL. Only when surge arresters are used with other fast transient mitigation equipment such as RC protection or surge capacitor protection, the magnitude of very fast voltage surges are brought down.

  • Vehicular Transmission Reliability over Blind Intersections
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: IEEE Swedish Communication Technologies Workshop (Swe-CTW'17). ; , s. 1-2
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication can improve road safety and traffic efficiency, particularly around critical areas such as intersections. We analytically derive V2V success probability near an urban intersection, based on empirically supported line-of-sight (LOS), weak-line-of-sight (WLOS), and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) channel models. The analysis can serve as a preliminary design tool for performance assessment over different system parameters and target performance requirements. The most interesting outcome of this research is the ability to design the network and explicitly quantify the tolerated number of simultaneous transmissions that could occur at the same time-frame of the wanted transmission, while still meeting the predetermined target reliability. Meanwhile, we will also discuss means to determine the fraction of vehicular traffic realizations that achieve the target reliability. This is a more granular finely detailed analysis, and it will basically build on the results presented earlier.

  • Study of an Air Cavity in Water Tunnel
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 14th Numerical Towing Tank Symposium, Poole, UK.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • To study the resistance reduction of an air cavity for a displacement vessels, a simplified model of a cavity is simulated using computational fluid dynamics(CFD) and model tests. Initial CFD computation have been performed to design the model tests and the model tests will subsequently be used to validate the CFD simulations. The length of the cavity is approximately 2.5 times the expected wavelength of the water-air interface and the Froude number based on the cavity length is 0.2. Parameters like pressure play important role in the wave’s shape and the stability of the water surface inside the cavity. Computation shows that the amplitude of the wave is sensitive to the air pressure in the cavity and the re-attachment of the water to the rear end of the cavity has a close correlation to the inlet air pressure. The ultimate goal of this investigation is to minimize air supply while reducing resistance in/around the cavity, but equally important is it to gain a more basic understanding of the air-cavity’s behavior and possible additional resistance components.
