    • For the past years, focus on reader-participation in online news media has increased rapidly in post-industrial societies. Online newspapers offer their readers opportunities of participation, such as submitting comments on articles, or uploading personal pictures and movies. Some engage readers to contribute via personal blogs that are published as integrated part of the newspaper’s website. Most newspapers encourage readers to send pictures and information of occurrences that may be of interest for local as well as national news coverage. Newspaper managers often regard reader-participation as potential ways to strengthen the ties between journalists and readers, and also to strengthen the newspaper brand. In addition, reader-participation is stressed as one possibility to complement the news content, as readers may monitor areas that are usually not addressed in traditional news coverage. From this point of view, readers may help to improve journalism. But how do professional journalists perceive the focus on reader-participation? Do journalists also emphasise the beneficial parts of reader-participation, or do they stress more critical point of views in this sense? At what point are reader-contributions found to be an asset in journalistic work, and when do contributions from the audience start to intrude on professional integrity? Those are focal issues analyzed in this paper. Based on a survey of Swedish newspaper journalists – conducted in 2009 – the result revealed that journalists often found reader-participation to be benefitial for journalism, though also related with some drawbacks. The result were analyzed and explained in relation to organizational and professional theory of journalism.

    • World famous architects challenge today the exposure of concrete in their architecture. It is my hope to be able to complement these. I try to develop new aesthetic potentials for the concrete and ceramics, in large scales that has not been seen before in the ceramic area. It is expected to result in new types of large scale and very thin, glazed concrete façades in building. If such are introduced in an architectural context they will have a distinctive impact on the visual expression of the building. The question is what kind. That I will attempt to answer in this article through observation of selected existing buildings in and around Copenhagen covered with mosaic tiles, unglazed or glazed clay tiles. Its buildings which have qualities that I would like applied, perhaps transformed or most preferably, interpreted anew, for the large glazed concrete panels I am developing. This article was for a conference in venice, published in a book page 314 - 319

    • The chapter tells of two women with low educational qualifications who embark on a journey into higher education by taking a distance course to introduce them to and induct them into academic practices, under the auspices of their trades union. In order to analyse and describe their learning, we look more closely at their contexts for learning, their life-worlds, using the conceptual framework of life-world phenomenology. Learning, in this case, means learning to find their place in higher education, and we place this against a background of the variation of ways in which the whole cohort of students was found to conceptualize the university. Grounded in an analysis of two interviews and written course assignments, we find superficial similarities and deep differences in their journey into higher education, and we give consideration to this from a gendered perspective.
