  • On the search for industry-relevant regression testing research
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Empirical Software Engineering. - New York, NY : Springer. - 1382-3256 .- 1573-7616. ; 24:4, s. 2020-2055
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Regression testing is a means to assure that a change in the software, or its execution environment, does not introduce new defects. It involves the expensive undertaking of rerunning test cases. Several techniques have been proposed to reduce the number of test cases to execute in regression testing, however, there is no research on how to assess industrial relevance and applicability of such techniques. We conducted a systematic literature review with the following two goals: firstly, to enable researchers to design and present regression testing research with a focus on industrial relevance and applicability and secondly, to facilitate the industrial adoption of such research by addressing the attributes of concern from the practitioners' perspective. Using a reference-based search approach, we identified 1068 papers on regression testing. We then reduced the scope to only include papers with explicit discussions about relevance and applicability (i.e. mainly studies involving industrial stakeholders). Uniquely in this literature review, practitioners were consulted at several steps to increase the likelihood of achieving our aim of identifying factors important for relevance and applicability. We have summarised the results of these consultations and an analysis of the literature in three taxonomies, which capture aspects of industrial-relevance regarding the regression testing techniques. Based on these taxonomies, we mapped 38 papers reporting the evaluation of 26 regression testing techniques in industrial settings. © The Author(s) 2019

  • ART4FL : An Agent-based Architectural Approach for Trustworthy Federated Learning in the IoT
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: 8th International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing, FMEC 2023. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9798350316971 - 9798350316988 ; , s. 270-275
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies has opened up for the development of novel types of systems and services. Federated Learning (FL) has enabled the systems to collaboratively train their ML models while preserving the privacy of the data collected by their IoT devices and objects. Several FL frameworks have been developed, however, they do not enable FL in open, distributed, and heterogeneous IoT environments. Specifically, they do not support systems that collect similar data to dynamically discover each other, communicate, and negotiate about the training terms (e.g., accuracy, communication latency, and cost). Towards bridging this gap, we propose ART4FL, an end-to-end framework that enables FL in open IoT settings. The framework enables systems’ users to configure agents that participate in FL on their behalf. Those agents negotiate and make commitments (i.e., contractual agreements) to dynamically form federations. To perform FL, the framework deploys the needed services dynamically, monitors the training rounds, and calculates agents’ trust scores based on the established commitments. ART4FL exploits a blockchain network to maintain the trust scores, and it provides those scores to negotiating agents’ during the federations’ formation phase. © 2023 IEEE.

  • ASSERT : A Blockchain-Based Architectural Approach for Engineering Secure Self-Adaptive IoT Systems
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Sensors. - basel : MDPI. - 1424-8220. ; 22:18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Internet of Things (IoT) systems are complex systems that can manage mission-critical, costly operations or the collection, storage, and processing of sensitive data. Therefore, security represents a primary concern that should be considered when engineering IoT systems. Additionally, several challenges need to be addressed, including the following ones. IoT systems’ environments are dynamic and uncertain. For instance, IoT devices can be mobile or might run out of batteries, so they can become suddenly unavailable. To cope with such environments, IoT systems can be engineered as goal-driven and self-adaptive systems. A goal-driven IoT system is composed of a dynamic set of IoT devices and services that temporarily connect and cooperate to achieve a specific goal. Several approaches have been proposed to engineer goal-driven and self-adaptive IoT systems. However, none of the existing approaches enable goal-driven IoT systems to automatically detect security threats and autonomously adapt to mitigate them. Toward bridging these gaps, this paper proposes a distributed architectural Approach for engineering goal-driven IoT Systems that can autonomously SElf-adapt to secuRity Threats in their environments (ASSERT). ASSERT exploits techniques and adopts notions, such as agents, federated learning, feedback loops, and blockchain, for maintaining the systems’ security and enhancing the trustworthiness of the adaptations they perform. The results of the experiments that we conducted to validate the approach’s feasibility show that it performs and scales well when detecting security threats, performing autonomous security adaptations to mitigate the threats and enabling systems’ constituents to learn about security threats in their environments collaboratively. © 2022 by the authors.

  • Change Detection Method for Wavelength-Resolution SAR Images Based on Bayes’ Theorem : An Iterative Approach
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: IEEE Access. - Piscataway, NJ : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 2169-3536. ; 11, s. 84734-84743
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents an iterative change detection (CD) method based on Bayes’ theorem for very high-frequency (VHF) ultra-wideband (UWB) SAR images considering commonly used clutter-plus-noise statistical models. The proposed detection technique uses the information of the detected changes to iteratively update the data and distribution information, obtaining more accurate clutter-plus-noise statistics resulting in false alarm reduction. The Bivariate Rayleigh and Bivariate Gaussian distributions are investigated as candidates to model the clutter-plus-noise, and the Anderson-Darling goodness-of-fit test is used to investigate three scenarios of interest. Different aspects related to the distributions are discussed, the observed mismatches are analyzed, and the impact of the distribution chosen for the proposed iterative change detection method is analyzed. Finally, the proposed iterative method performance is assessed in terms of the probability of detection and false alarm rate and compared with other competitive solutions. The experimental evaluation uses data from real measurements obtained using the CARABAS II SAR system. Results show that the proposed iterative CD algorithm performs better than the other methods. • Unpacking the early alumni engagement of entrepreneurship graduates
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of small business management (Print). - Philadelphia, PA : Taylor & Francis. - 0047-2778 .- 1540-627X.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Alumni engagement plays a crucial role in driving innovation in university-based entrepreneurship ecosystems. We employ an inductive, informant-centric research design to explore the processual dynamics surrounding the early alumni engagement of entrepreneurship graduates and how these translate into enterprising behaviors that foster technology transfer and knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship. Our inductive analysis advances the theoretical understanding of the beginning phases of the alumni engagement process among entrepreneurship graduates, the key drivers that make them gravitate toward different forms of alumni engagement, and the role and impact of their engagement in the surrounding ecosystem. © 2022 The Author(s). • A Comprehensive Study on the Role of Machine Learning in 5G Security : Challenges, Technologies, and Solutions
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Electronics. - Basel : MDPI. - 2079-9292. ; 12:22, s. 1-44
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks have already marked their presence globally, revolutionizing entertainment, business, healthcare, and other domains. While this leap forward brings numerous advantages in speed and connectivity, it also poses new challenges for security protocols. Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) have been employed to augment traditional security measures, promising to mitigate risks and vulnerabilities. This paper conducts an exhaustive study to assess ML and DL algorithms' role and effectiveness within the 5G security landscape. Also, it offers a profound dissection of the 5G network's security paradigm, particularly emphasizing the transformative role of ML and DL as enabling security tools. This study starts by examining the unique architecture of 5G and its inherent vulnerabilities, contrasting them with emerging threat vectors. Next, we conduct a detailed analysis of the network's underlying segments, such as network slicing, Massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC), and edge computing, revealing their associated security challenges. By scrutinizing current security protocols and international regulatory impositions, this paper delineates the existing 5G security landscape. Finally, we outline the capabilities of ML and DL in redefining 5G security. We detail their application in enhancing anomaly detection, fortifying predictive security measures, and strengthening intrusion prevention strategies. This research sheds light on the present-day 5G security challenges and offers a visionary perspective, highlighting the intersection of advanced computational methods and future 5G security. © 2023 by the authors.

  • Change of entrepreneurial agenda in a core competence context : exploring the transformation from technology focus to market focus
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Entrepreneurial Venturing. - Olney : Inderscience. - 1742-5360 .- 1742-5379. ; 4:2, s. 148-167
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The newest small firms – the start-ups in general and the international new ventures (INV) in particular – face major difficulties from the beginning. Not only do they need to bring competitively unique products to a new, highly competitive market, but they also must be successful in convincing customers of their products' benefits. This ultimate small firm test is in fact very similar to the criteria that define the core competence concept. Still, core competence matters have historically been delimited to large, preferably diversified companies. In this paper, we apply core competence theory and entrepreneurship theories on a small firm's empirical context. We concentrate on technology focused INVs and on the change, or transformation, these start-ups must complete in order to adopt a more market-oriented focus. Without the transformation, we argue, the small firm will not be able to expand. The purpose of the paper is to explore parts of the processes changed during the transformation and to enhance our understanding of core competence applicability on small companies. We formulate propositions, empirically guided and theoretically anchored, that describe four different components that facilitate the small firm technology-to-market transformation.

  • Phase Control in Interpolation for Backprojection of THz FMCW SAR Signals
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 23rd International Radar Symposium (IRS). - : IEEE. - 9788395602054 ; , s. 10-15
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The THz frequency spectrum opens a lot of applications in the imaging at sub-mm level. The increase of the operating frequency band for SAR imaging systems to the THz range has proportionally affected the amount of raw data to be stored and used for accurate image reconstruction. As a consequence, improvements in the existing SAR imaging algorithms to reduce the amount of data needed to achieve the appropriate quality of imaging is desired. This paper introduces the phase control procedure as an extension to the existing sinc interpolator for backprojecting complex-valued FMCW SAR data into a defined image plane. The proposed extension controls the phase of interpolated complex-valued SAR data parameters so that it includes appropriate information about the range distance between the SAR system and the given point of space. The extended algorithm is incorporated into the global backprojection algorithm and examined on the measurement data acquired via the 2pSENSE FMCW SAR system. The efficiency of the extended algorithm is evaluated through the comparison with the conventional nearest neighbor and sinc interpolation algorithms. © 2022 Warsaw University of Technology.

  • A longitudinal study integrating population, care and social services data : The Swedish National study on Aging and Care (SNAC)
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research. - Milano : Kurtis. - 1594-0667 .- 1720-8319. ; 16:2, s. 158-168
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background and aims: A large, national, long-term, longitudinal, multi-purpose study has been launched in Sweden - the Swedish National study on Aging and Care (SNAC). The study involves four research centers collecting data in four different areas of Sweden. Methods: The study consists of two parts: the population part and the care and services part. In the population part, a large, representative panel of elders in different age cohorts is followed over time to record and describe the aging process from different aspects. In the care and services part, a systematic, longitudinal, individually-based collection of data is performed concerning provision of care and services together with functional ability, specific health care problems, and living conditions of the recipients living in the area.Resuits: The data collection in the population part of the SNAC is not yet completed. In the present article, some preliminary results are reported from the care and services part. These pertain to comparisons between the participating areas with respect to the prevalence of disability among those receiving care and social services in their ordinary homes and those receiving care in special accommodation. A comparison is also presented with regard to the amount of home help provided to subjects with a given disability. Conclusions: This project has several advantages. It is expected to generate a rich data base relevant for future research on aging and care and to have a direct impact on the future Swedish system of care and services for the elderly.

  • Depression and exercise in elderly men and women : findings from the Swedish national study on aging and care
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Aging and Physical Activity. - Champaign, Illinois : Human Kinetics Publishers. - 1063-8652 .- 1543-267X. ; 15:1, s. 41-55
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study investigated the relationship between light and strenuous exercise and depression, as well as gender differences in this relationship, in a representative sample of 860 elderly Swedish suburb-dwelling men and women in age cohorts from 60 to 96 years, drawn from among participants in the Swedish National Aging and Care study. The relationship between depression and self-reported changes in exercise status over time was also examined. Exercise activities were measured with four survey questions, and depression, with the Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale. The inactive elderly had higher depression scores than more active individuals, both in terms of light and strenuous exercise. The continuously active group had lower depression scores than both continuously inactive individuals and individuals reporting a shift from activity to inactivity during the preceding year. Light exercise had a somewhat stronger effect on depression for women.
