- Malaysian manufacturing firms are interested in New Product Development (NPD) methods, due to the fact that they are competitive tools for survival. The purpose of the present study is to investigate NPD practices in Malaysia, in particular the outsourcing of NPD and the organizing of NPD. We achieved our objectives by conducting a survey of 72 companies in the automotive, chemical, and electrical industries and analyzing the results. Managers involved in NPD will benefit from the findings presented in this paper. The results indicate that the NPD practices used in Malaysian firms focus more on production cost and manufacturability, whereas the need for increased knowledge receives lower priority.

- PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system using transmission of an electromagnetic signal in order to determine the positions of reflection points by detecting the signals reflected at the reflection points in space. ; SOLUTION: The present invention provides a method, antenna, and system for defining the positions of the reflection points using microwave. The electromagnetic signal is generated at a determined frequency, and is transmitted by an antenna unit. The antenna unit comprises a transmitting antenna, and many receiving antennas that are separated at a known interval in the direction perpendicular to the main visual axis and are designed to receive a part of the reflected wave of the transmitted wave. A phase comparing means is connected to the transmitting antenna and receiving antennas, and a control unit connected to the phase comparing means can calculate an angle to the reflection points and calculate the distances to the reflection points. ; COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT

- A method, an antenna, and a system for determining positions for reflection points using microwaves. An electromagnetic wave signal is generated at a defined frequency, and transmitted by an antenna unit the antenna unit includes a transmitter antenna and a plurality of receiver antennas, separated by a known spacing perpendicular to a main line of sight and devised to receive reflected portions of the transmitted wave. Phase comparator means are connected to the transmitter antenna and the receiver antennas, and a control unit connected to the phase comparator means is operable to calculate an angle to a reflection point from detected phase difference between at least two receiver antennas and the spacing between said at least two receiver antennas, and to calculate a distance to the reflection point from detected phase difference between the transmitter antenna and a receiver antenna dependent on the frequency.

- This paper proposes a new robust bi-modal audio visual digit and speaker recognition system by lip-motion and speech biometrics. To increase the robustness of digit and speaker recognition, we have proposed a method using speaker lip motion information extracted from video sequences with low resolution (128 ×128 pixels). In this paper we investigate a biometric system for digit recognition and speaker identification based using line-motion estimation with speech information and Support Vector Machines. The acoustic and visual features are fused at the feature level showing favourable results with digit recognition being 83% to 100% and speaker recognition 100% on the XM2VTS database.

Är miljöinnovationer mindre framgångsrika än andra innovationer?

- Rapporten är skriven som en slutrapportering av projektet ”Är eko-innovationer mindre framgångsrika än andra innovationer?”. I rapporten diskuteras olika sätt att se på hur man kan bedöma innovationers utveckling och marknadsframgång. Den generella frågan som ställs i undersökningen är om de innovationer som är miljöinriktade har en sämre marknadsutveckling än andra innovationer. Där en sådan skillnad finns försöker man identifiera de faktorer som kan bidra till att förklara varför. Området är av extra intresse idag då kapitalet nu på allvar börjar hitta till miljöinnovationerna. I USA har området CleanTech under 2006 snabbt klättrat upp till tredje största investeringsområde för riskkapital. I Sverige är det än så länge trögare för riskkapitalet och miljöinnovatörerna att mötas och denna rapport ger en ögonblicksbild av förklaringen varför. De innovationer som studerats har valts ut bland de som gått till final i tävlingarna MiljöInnovation, Venture Cup och Innovation Cup under de år som tävlingarna genomförts.
