- Method and apparatus for analysing a substance in a container, the method comprising the steps of: disposing antenna means (3) at a predetermined geometrical distance (L) from a container portion (13); transmitting a signal from said antenna means through a surface portion (12) of the substance towards said container portion; receiving a first reflected signal in said antenna means from said container portion; determining a geometrical distance (L 1 ) from the surface portion to the container portion; varying the frequency of the transmitted signal to determine a first phase displacement between the transmitted signal and the first reflected signal; determining an optical distance from the surface portion to the container portion based on the first phase displacement; and determining the index of refraction (n 1 ) of said substance based on the optical and geometrical from the surface portion to the container portion.

- A diagnosis and maintenance method, a diagnosis and maintenance assembly comprising a central server and a system, and a computer program for diagnosis and maintenance for a plurality of systems, particularly for a plurality of vehicles, wherein each system provides at least one system-related signal which provides the basis for the diagnosis and/or maintenance of/for the system are provided. The basis for diagnosis and/or maintenance is determined by determining for each system at least one relation between the system-related signals, comparing the compatible determined relations, determining for the plurality of systems based on the result of the comparison which relations are significant relations and providing a diagnosis and/or maintenance decision based on the determined significant relations.

Method of optimizing bit rate capacities of DSL user lines

- A method of optimizing the bit rate capacities of DSL user lines subject to far-end crosstalk by adjusting the transmit power spectral densities at the far ends of the user lines by means of parameterized power back-off functions is characterized by the steps of : a) selecting a desired bit rate share for each user line, b) measuring the noise and losses on each user line, and c) determining an individual set of power back-off parameters for each user line by calculating a global sum of the bit rates of all user lines and iterating the power back-off parameters until a maximum value of the global sum is found under the constraint that the desired bit rate shares are met.
