- The purpose of this study is to identify the factors which can contribute to the explanation of why eco-innovations have a poorer market development than other innovations. We based our study on 285 innovations that moved on to the finals in three Swedish innovation contests: the Environmental Technology Competition (ETC), the Venture Cup (VC) and the Innovation Cup (IC). We analysed four groups of factors related respectively to (1) the innovator, (2) the innovation, (3) the development process and (4) certain aspects of the surroundings with importance to development. One conclusion is that there are many factors in which eco-innovations differ from other innovations. The eco-group is older, mainly male, with lower technical or other education; they are more innovative and their network has a stronger connection to family. Eco-innovations are less geared towards industrial customers and currently have no major competition, according to the innovators. The development process for these innovations is different from that of other innovations; the time that has been invested in the process is much shorter and the access to risk capital and contacts with business angels are rare. The eco-innovators view the general surroundings more positively than others.

Tyvärrdrabbas många lovande idrottsungdomar och senioridrottare av skadeproblem som såvälfördröjer som även i vissa fall omöjliggör återgång till tävlingsidrotten igen. Denna artikeldiskuterar området kring mental återhämtning och rehabilitering efter idrottsskada.

The role of collagen antibodies in mediating arthritis

- This review examines evidence that rheumatoid arthritis (RA) depends on autoimmunity to articular collagen, and mechanisms whereby autoantibodies to type II collagen contribute to disease development. Three major autoantigenic reactants have been identified in RA; the corresponding autoantibodies are rheumatoid factor (RF), antibodies to citrullinated peptide antigens (ACPA), citrullinated peptides (anti-CCP), and anti-type II collagen (anti-CII). Both RF and ACPA are well-validated and predictive markers of severe erosive RA, but cannot be linked to pathogenesis. By contrast, in various animal species immunized with CII there occurs an erosive inflammatory arthritis resembling that seen in human RA, together with antibodies to CII with an epitope specificity similar to that in RA. We discuss the well-known role of immune complexes in the induction of inflammation within the joint, and present recent data showing, additionally, that antibodies to CII cause direct damage to cartilage in vitro. The close resemblances between human RA and collagen-induced arthritis in animals suggest that autoimmunity, and particularly autoantibodies to CII, are important for both the initiation and perpetuation of RA in a dual manner: as contributors to the inflammation associated with immune complex deposition, and as agents with direct degradative effects on cartilage integrity and its repair.

- Demokratistudier har länge tillhört statsvetenskapens kärnområden. Ändå har man inte inom ämnet kunnat enas om en entydig förklaring till den moderna demokratins framväxt, skriver statsvetaren Mikael Sandberg. En svaghet i många analyser är att man söker förklaringar till demokratin genom statistiska sambandsanalyser med samtida faktorer och förbiser de förändringar som sker globalt snarare än nationellt, menar han. I ett försök att komma till rätta med detta använder han sig av en Bass-grundad diffusionsmodell för att få fram en dynamisk förklaring till demokratins spridning 1800-2000.
