  • Mapping the Relationship Between Hedonic Capacity and Online Shopping
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of Fifth International Congress on Information and Communication Technology. - Singapore : Springer Singapore. - 9789811558559 - 9789811558566 ; 1183, s. 604-611
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the present study, the relationship between hedonic capacity and online shopping is explored through a Swedish nationally representative sample. A survey was distributed to 3000 citizens. The number of respondents was 1591 (response rate: 53%). Ordinal regression analyses were conducted in order to test the association between hedonic capacity and online shopping. The dependent variable was online shopping frequencies. Gender, age, and individual income were control variables. Our findings indicated that hedonic capacity was positively associated with online shopping (p < 0.001). The findings propose that online shopping primarily is triggered by emotions and affect rather than reasoning and cognition. Such insights can be used in strategical marketing and technological decisions by academy and industry, as well as in Web site design and communication.

  • A three-level analysis of values related to socially responsible retirement investments
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Sustainable Finance & Investment. - : Informa UK Limited. - 2043-0795 .- 2043-0809.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim is to investigate the value basis of Socially Responsible Retirement Investments (SRRI) in a study of Swedish pension investors in the age range 18 to 65 years (N=1005). Logistic regression analyses were performed with self-reported SRRI choice as dependent variable and different levels of values as independent variables. On a higher level of analyses, self-transcendent values, especially universalism (e.g., equality, protecting the environment, and social justice), have the most important influences on SRRI choice. In contrast, on a lower-level analysis, SRRI choice is influenced by self-enhancement values with high priority for authoritarian power and low priority for wealth. The three-level analysis of values (self-transcendence vs self-enhancement value orientation, motivational domain, and value) questions the contradiction between dimension poles of values and the structuring of values in interrelated motivational domains. The results thereby clarify some previous findings and increase the understanding of the value basis of SRRI.

  • Traits and Transports : The Effects of Personality on the Choice of Urban Transport Modes
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Applied Sciences. - : MDPI AG. - 2076-3417. ; 12:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We examine the influence of personality on car driving, usage of public transport and cycling. Personality is measured through the Big Five personality traits (i.e., Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism) and Environmental personality. Data were collected through a Web-based panel of adult citizen in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden (N = 1068). Age, gender, income, children at home and residential area were used as control variables. Car driving is influenced by low degree of Openness, high degree of Conscientiousness, and low degree of Environmental personality. Usage of public transport is influenced by low degree of Conscientiousness, high degree of Agreeableness, and high degree of Environmental personality. Cycling is foremost influenced by a high degree of Environmental personality.

  • Delaktighet som pedagogik och demokratiskt värde för fullföljandet av studier – kunskapsbidrag från ett utvecklingsprojekt
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Utbildning och Lärande / Education and Learning. - Skövde : Högskolan i Skövde. - 2001-4554. ; 9:1, s. 80-100
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Participation as a pedagogy and democratic value turns out to be a critical element in students’ completion of school. Completed education is a regional development project in which a survey has been conducted in order to identify successful strategies to promote completed education in school. In an analysis, in the context of the survey, with an emphasis on school and participation as a pedagogy and democratic value, several findings are shown. It turns out that the importance of participation manifests itself through an emphasis on the societal and democratic mission of school; school ethos; the value praxis of school; pedagogical approach; and viewing the pupil as capable. It is, in more detail, shown that it is particularly crucial to understand the completion of school as a pedagogical problem; create sustainable institutional structures not bound to one person; and to make sure that students are participants in their own studies.

  • A New Look at Individual Differences in Perceptions of Unfairness : The Theory of Maximally Unfair Allocations in Multiparty Situations
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Social Justice Research. - New York : Springer Science+Business Media B.V.. - 0885-7466 .- 1573-6725. ; 28:4, s. 401-414
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Previous research has demonstrated that unfairness judgments of resource allocations become more complex when there are more than two recipients. In order to explain some of this complexity, we propose a set of psychological mechanisms that may underlie four different choices of maximally unfair resource allocations (MUA): Self-Single-Loser, Self-One-Loser-of-Many, Self-Single-Winner, and Self-One-Winner-of-Many. From this psychological theory, several predictions are derived and tested in vignette studies involving a total of 708 participants recruited online using MTurk. As predicted by our theory, (1) choices of MUA where there is a single loser were much more common when the allocated resource was of negative rather than positive valence, and (2) the amount of egoistic bias individuals exhibited when judging the unfairness in receiving a small rather than a large share in a non-extreme multi-party allocation was predicted by their choices of MUA. These findings suggest that an individual’s choice of MUA reveals some generally relevant principles of how unfairness is perceived in multi-party allocations. This opens up new lines of inquiry, especially regarding research on social dilemmas and social value orientation.

  • Perceptions of trust in physician-managers
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Leadership in Health Services. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 1751-1879 .- 1751-1887 .- 0952-6862. ; 28:4, s. 281-297
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the dual role of physician-managers through an examination of perceptions of trust and distrust in physician-managers. The healthcare sector needs physicians to lead. Physicians in part-time managerial positions who continue their medical practice are called part-time physician-managers. This paper explores this dual role through an examination of perceptions of trust and distrust in physician-managers. Design/methodology/approach – The study takes a qualitative research approach in which interviews and focus group discussions with physician-managers and nurse-managers provide the empirical data. An analytical model, with the three elements of ability, benevolence and integrity, was used in the analysis of trust and distrust in physician-managers. Findings – The respondents (physician-managers and nurse-managers) perceived both an increase and a decrease in physicians’ trust in the physician-managers. Because elements of distrust were more numerous and more severe than elements of trust, the physician-managers received negative perceptions of their role. Research limitations/implications – This paper’s findings are based on perceptions of perceptions. The physicians were not interviewed on their trust and distrust of physician-managers. Practical implications – The healthcare sector must pay attention to the diverse expectations of the physician-manager role that is based on both managerial and medical logics. Hospital management should provide proper support to physician-managers in their dual role to ensure their willingness to continue to assume managerial responsibilities. Originality/value – The paper takes an original approach in its research into the dual role of physician-managers who work under two conflicting logics: the medical logic and the managerial logic. The focus on perceived trust and distrust in physician-managers is a new perspective on this complicated role.

  • We Need to Talk about Knowledge! Rethinking Management and Evidence-Based Practice in Welfare
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Public Administration. - : University of Gothenburg School of Public Administration. - 2001-7405 .- 2001-7413 .- 2000-8058. ; 27:3, s. 37-56
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • New Public Management (NPM) and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) are two fundamental concepts within welfare professions. Both NPM and EBP are central to many debates within welfare, and often criticised as posing simplified or positivist approaches to management and knowledge utilization. Epistemologically, both are manifestations of modernity, with its emphases on standardization, control, simple causality and measurability. These epistemological similarities have not been explored as potential doorways for making modifications to NPM and EBP. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to new ways of thinking and doing management and EBP of complex welfare issues by increasing the epistemological understanding of these concepts. NPM and EBP are taken here as subjects for joint conceptual analysis. The paper is guided by the following question: What is an appropriate epistemology for professionals involved in EBP and managing? Literature on NPM and EBP are analyzed together with theoretical insights from scholarship on formalization and heterogeneity of expertise, and analyzed in light of empirical examples taken from a case of a subregional social sustainability/public health initiative. Drawing on the development of post-NPM and more complex versions of EBP, the paper ends by introducing the notion post-EBP, and concludes by outlining some implications of this concept for the working professions.

  • Personality and E-shopping : Insights from a Nationally Representative Study
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Digital Transformation and Global Society. - Cham : Springer. - 9783030378578 - 9783030378585 ; 1038 CCIS, s. 257-267
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • According to previous research, a high degree of Openness and Neuroticism, and a low degree of Agreeableness are personality determinants of e-shopping. This study aims to explore the relationship between the Five-factor model of personality (i.e. Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism) and e-shopping in a Swedish context. In a nationally representative sample, a questionnaire was distributed to 3400 citizens. The response rate was 53 percentage (N = 1812). The questionnaire included measures of the Five-factor model of personality (BFI-ten) and e-shopping. Multiple regression analyses were conducted to test if the Five-factor model of personality predicted e-shopping. The dependent variable was self-reported frequencies of e-shopping during the last 12 months. The first analysis showed that Openness is predicting e-shopping. However, this effect disappeared, when age, educational attainment and income were controlled for. Our conclusion is that the Five-factor model of personality is a poor predictor of e-shopping and that e-shopping frequencies are unrelated to the personality of internet users. Methodological limitations are discussed, for instance the use of a single-item for measuring e-shopping and a short-scale for measuring personality. There are difficulties comparing our findings with previous findings, since the concepts personality and e-shopping have not been defined uniformly. The analyses revealed significant variation in definitions, measurements and methodologies. Caution should also be taken in generalizing the present results to other countries and other time periods. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
