  • Guidelines for Preparing Organisations in Developing Countries for Standards-based B2B
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Emerging Markets and E-Commerce in Developing Economies. - : IGI Global. - 9781605661001 - 1605661007 - 9781605661018 - 1605661015 - 9781616926250 ; , s. 271-292
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • B2B development has been faster in the developed world comparing to developing countries. This chapter proposes a “tool” for managing CSF in B2B settings. The tool is in the form of guidelines, which are concrete and detailed, and which enable a more clear view of actions needed during the preparation stage of B2B projects. We argue that developing countries seldom have the luxury of affording failure in new B2B ventures, but that they instead must learn from the mistakes already made by the developed countries. Thus, our proposed guidelines are based on an existing framework and experiences made in the developed countries. The guidelines are furthermore discussed with regard to the specific problems and conditions that developing countries face. Much work still remains, and problems still must be resolved. From a global perspective, this is important for all of us!

  • Managing Critical Success Factors in a B2B Setting
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: IADIS International Journal on WWW/Internet. - : IADIS Press. - 1645-7641. ; 4:1, s. 96-110
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When information systems (IS) are developed and implemented, in any context, a number of success factors determine whether or not the effort will succeed. Attention to success factors helps to avoid some costly mistakes, and speeds up the way change is managed. This paper is focused on how to manage critical success factors (CSF) in organisations involved in standards-based Business-to-Business (B2B), with a focus on organisational CSFs. An existing CSF framework in IS planning is applied theoretically to a B2B setting. Activities in a B2B standards implementation model are compared and matched against the framework. Results show that the framework is suitable for planning B2B implementations, essentially for strategic planning. Based on these results we have developed concrete guidelines to be used in the planning phase by strategic planners. Future work will consist of empirical validation, further detailing the guidelines in order to develop a practically useful ”tool” for managing CSF in a B2B standards implementation.

  • Seven Types of Knowledge Loss in the Knowledge Capture Process
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 18th European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS 2010). - : Association for Information Systems. - 9780620471725 ; , s. Paper 13-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Society is based on knowledge and the availability thereof. Access to knowledge empowers people, and organizations must reuse knowledge to be competitive. The right knowledge to the right person at the right time is important for success, and IT plays an important role in order to achieve this goal, for example in the form of Electronic Knowlege Repositories (EKR). The success of an EKR depends on what is stored therein, and the ability to capture the right knowledge is hence a key aspect. This, however, is a complex issue. The goal of this paper is to identify and describe different types of knowledge loss, seven of which have been identified and characterized. As an example, one knowledge loss shows that not all knowledge can be stored, and critical knowledge elements may therefore be lost when attempting to store it. Some knowledge loss may be desirable, since an organization should not want to store everything. The results contribute to capturing the right knowledge, and hence to successful EKR. The results thus contribute to elevating the competitive power of an organization.

  • Reference Implementations - Usages And The Quest For A Definition
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: EURAS Proceedings 2014. - Aachen : Wissenschaftsverlag Mainz. - 9783860733059 ; , s. 17-31
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a systematic literature review performed to investigate if there is a prevailing definition of reference implementation in the standards community, and how reference implementations are referenced to be used within the standards community. The literature review targets all electronically available core journals and conferences in the field, and the results are classified according to a framework introduced in the paper. We found that there is one definition that focuses on conformance testing, but the results from the literature review show more uses of reference implementations such as when developing standards, when implementing them, and when developing products.

  • Supporting Information Security Management : Developing a Method for Information Classification
  • 2020
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In the highly digitalised world in which we live today, information and information systems have become critical assets to organisations, and hence need to be safeguarded accordingly. In order to implement and work with information security in a structured way, an Information Security Management System (ISMS) can be implemented. Asset management is a central activity in ISMS that aims at identifying, assigning ownership and adding protection to information assets. One activity within asset management is information classification that has the objective to ensure that the information receives an appropriate level of protection in accordance with its importance to the organisation. Information classification is a well-known practice for all kinds of organisations, both in the private and public sector, and is included in different variants in standards such as ISO/IEC 27002, COBIT and NIST-SP800.However, information classification has received little attention from academia, and many organisations are struggling with the implementation. The reasons behind why it is problematic, and how to address such issues, are largely unknown. Furthermore, existing approaches, described in, for example, standards and national recommendations, do not provide a coherent and systematic approach to information classification. The short descriptions in standards, and literature alike, leave out essential aspects needed for many organisations to adopt and implement information classification. There is, for instance, a lack of detailed descriptions regarding (1) procedures and concepts, (2) how to tailor the approach for different situations, (3) a framework that structures and guides the classification, (4) what roles should be involved in the classification, and (5) how information with different granularity is handled. This thesis aims to increase the applicability of information classification by developing a method for information classification in ISMS that draws from established standards and practice. In order to address this aim, a Design Science Research (DSR) study was performed in three cycles. A wide range of data was collected, including a series of interviews with experts and novices on information classification, a survey, most of the Swedish public sector information classification policies, and observations. There are three main contributions made by this thesis (1) the identification of issues and enablers for information classification, (2) the design principles underpinning the development of a method for information classification, and (3) the method for information classification itself. Contributions have also been made to the context around information classification, such as, for example, 20 practical suggestions for how to meet documented challenges in practice.

  • Patient Empowerment and its Connection to Trust
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 18th International Symposium on Health Information Management Research. - Kalmar : Linnaeus University; University of Sheffield. - 9789189081093
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Patient Empowerment (PE) allows patients to be more active in managing their own health and quality of life. The aim of this paper is to analyze how trust affects PE, in the context of healthcare information systems. An interview study was conducted concerning patients’ online access to electronic healthcare records. Results show that PE requires that patients trust the information that healthcare professionals and their electronic health record systems provide. Without trust, patients cannot control their own participation in relation to the healthcare professionals. This may result in a diminished ability to participate in the healthcare processes regarding their own care. Practical implications include acquired knowledge about and awareness of how trust influences PE, with particular emphasis on healthcare professionals. A trust model is presented that illustrates the trustor-trustee dimensions of PE. This model has both theoretical and practical implications in its illustration of how trust and PE connect.

  • IT Service Management : Core Processes Aligning Business and IT
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Business Information Systems Workshops. - Cham : W. Abramowicz and A. Kokkinaki (Eds.): BIS 2014 Workshops, LNBIP 183, pp. 145–155, 2014. - 9783319114590 - 9783319114606 ; , s. 145-155
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The problem we address is that researchers have insufficiently investigated the processes and nuances of Business and IT alignment. One attempt to tackle Business and IT alignment in a process-oriented way is to adopt the concept of IT Service Management (ITSM). However, identified challenges entails that ITSM is hard to define and that existing ITSM frameworks sometimes are considered as overly complex containing an extensive process scope, making it costly and hard to implement. The purpose of this workshop paper is to understand in what way are ITSM core processes supporting business and IT alignment? Our qualitative research approach embraced a two-phase method based on empirical studies where identified core processes were mapped using the Strategic Alignment Model. The result shows that the core of ITSM consists of five processes and that these processes somewhat constitute the bridges and interfaces that aligns Business and IT.
