  • Quality of nursing care as perceived by cancer patients : A cross-sectional survey in four European countries
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of B.U.ON.. - 1107-0625. ; 22:3, s. 777-782
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: To explore and compare cancer patients' perceptions on the quality of nursing care in four European countries. Methods: Data were collected in Cyprus, Finland, Greece and Sweden. The sample comprised 596 hospitalized cancer patients. The quality of nursing care was measured using the “Oncology Patients' Perceptions of the Quality of Nursing Care Scale” (OPPQNCS). Patient characteristics were also collected. Analysis of variance was used to examine the effects of country on the perceptions of the quality of nursing care. Results: Patients' age ranged from 18 to 86 years, and 58% were male. The comparison of cancer patients' perceptions regarding the quality of nursing care between the four countries showed a statistically significant difference in the total OPPQNCS scores (p<0.001) as well as in the subscales responsiveness (p<0.001), individualization (p<0.001), coordination (p<0.001) and proficiency (p<0.001). The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the OPPQNCS ranged between 0.89 and 0.95. A multivariate analysis of variance for the OPPQNCS controlled by respondents' demographic characteristics revealed that only the patient's country was significantly related with the patients' perceptions of quality care. Conclusion: Quality of nursing care as perceived by cancer patients was high, but differed between the four countries. The impact of the clinical status of cancer patients on the quality of nursing care and managerial factors such as staffing/nursing care delivery models that influence the ability of nurses to offer high quality care should also be explored by more focused studies.

  • Governance and Control of Externalized Water Service Management: Comparing solutions adopted in Italy and Sweden
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Corporate Ownership & Control. - : Virtus Interpress. - 1727-9232. ; 8:3, s. 188-195
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract in UndeterminedIn this paper teh challenges imposed on corporate governance of water services in Italy and Sweden are analyzed and compared. From the comparative analysis we notice that with externalization of services more stakeholders become involved in the provision of services. These stakeholders have common as well as divergent interests and the challenge thus become to find an alignment of interest among stakeholders in order to secure a sustainable provision of the services. The comparative analyzis indicate that such alignment is especially difficult when stakeholders have heterogeneous background (public and private sector).

  • Ecology of spring-migrating Anatidae : a review
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Journal of Ornithology = Journal fur Ornithologie. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0021-8375. ; 147:2, s. 167-184
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Spring migration is generally considered as a crucial period of the year for many birds, not the least due to its supposed importance for subsequent breeding success. By reviewing the existing literature for Anatidae (ducks, geese, and swans), we show that little is known about their ecology in spring, although some goose species are exceptions. Another general pattern is that the ecology of Anatidae at staging sites is particularly neglected. Existing studies tend to focus on questions dealing with acquisition of nutrient reserves, whereas almost nothing has been published about stopover habitats, time use, microhabitat use, foraging behaviour, food availability, food limitation, diet selection, and interspecific relationships. Besides summarising present knowledge, we identify taxonomic groups and topics for which gaps of knowledge appear the most evident, thereby also highlighting research needs for the future.

  • The journey of participatory budgeting : a systematic literature review and future research directions
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: International Review of Administrative Sciences. - : SAGE Publications Ltd. - 0020-8523 .- 1461-7226. ; , s. 1-18
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This systematic literature review analyses the body of knowledge on the budgeting practice known as participatory budgeting (PB). This review identifies and analyses a dataset of 139 English-language papers focused on PB in the public sector published over three decades (1989–2019) in academic journals of different disciplines. The findings shed new light on PB, by systematizing this body of knowledge and explaining the PB idea journey. A research agenda is also set by clarifying overlooked areas of research and practical interests. The review provides a conceptual model to cope with specific issues in each phase of a PB journey, and it also sheds light on the role of political and managerial actors. Traditional and new themes to design a PB and implement participatory mechanisms are proposed. Practitioners can benefit from indications about the use of technological tools in mobilizing participation.

  • Osteoporosis and peridontitis in older subjects participating in the Swedish National Survey on Aging and Care (SNAC-Blekinge)
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Acta Odontologica Scandinavica. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0001-6357 .- 1502-3850. ; 69:4, s. 201-207
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract Objective. We assessed the relationships between (I) ultrasonography calcaneus T-scores (PIXI) and mandibular cortex characteristics on oral panoramic radiographs in older subjects; and (II) osteoporosis and periodontitis. Material and methods. We examined 778 subjects (53% women) aged 59-96 years. Periodontitis was defined by alveolar bone loss assessed from panoramic radiographs. Results. PIXI calcaneus T-values ≤-2.5 (osteoporosis) were found in 16.3% of women and in 8.1% of men. PIXI calcaneus T-values <-1.6 (osteoporosis, adjusted) were found in 34.2% of women and in 21.4% of men. The age of the subjects and PIXI T-values were significantly correlated in women (Pearson's r = 0.37, P < 0.001) and men (Pearson's r = 0.19, P < 0.001). Periodontitis was found in 18.7% of subjects defined by alveolar bone level ≥5 mm. Subjects with osteoporosis defined by adjusted PIXI T-values had fewer remaining teeth [mean difference 4.1, 95% confidence interval (CI) -1.1 to -6.5, P < 0.001]. The crude odds ratio (OR) of an association between the panoramic assessment of mandibular cortex erosions as a sign of osteoporosis and the adjusted T-value (T-value cut-off <-1.6) was 4.8 (95% CI 3.1-7.2, P < 0.001; Pearson χ(2) = 60.1, P < 0.001). A significant OR between osteoporosis and periodontitis was only found in women for the T-value cut-off ≤-2.5 (crude OR 1.8, 95% CI 1.1-3.3, P < 0.03). Conclusions. An association between osteoporosis and periodontitis was only confirmed in women. The likelihood that the mandibular cortex index agrees with adjusted PIXI T-values is significant.

  • The jigsaw puzzle of activities for mastering daily life; service recipients and professionals’ perceptions of gains and changes attributed to reablement : A qualitative meta-synthesis
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy. - : Taylor and Francis Ltd.. - 1103-8128 .- 1651-2014. ; , s. 1-12
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Reablement services are intended to make a difference in the daily lives of older adults. Outcomes are often described in terms of independence, improving quality of life, improving ADL functioning, or reducing services. However, little is known if the older adults or next-of-kin experience these outcomes when talking about participating in reablement services.  Aim: This study aims to explore how older adults, next-of-kin, and professionals narrate the reablement recipients’ possible outcomes as gains and changes in everyday life during and after the reablement period.  Materials and methods : This meta-synthesis included 13 studies. Data were analyzed with a meta-ethnographic approach, searching for overarching metaphors, in three stages.  Results: The metaphor ‘the jigsaw puzzle of activities for mastering daily life again’ illustrates that re-assembling everyday life after reablement is not a straightforward process of gains and changes but includes several daily activities that must be organized and fit together. To obtain a deeper understanding of the participants’ gains, and changes after reablement, we use the theoretical framework of ‘doing, being, becoming, and belonging’.  Conclusion: The findings indicate the complexity of reablement services as well as the need for a holistic approach.  Significance: Outcome measures should be meaningful for reablement recipients.
