  • Everyday Life Situations for Child Participation
  • 2011
  • In: Third ISEI Conference.
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Child Participation is defined by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health forChildren and Youth (ICF-CY) as involvement in life situations but knowledge on children´s specific everydaylife situations (EDLs) is lacking. Professionals in early intervention services need a structured tool to identifyand assess child participation in everyday life situations. It should support children with disabilities indescribing what matters most for them in intervention planning. With the long term goal to create ICF-CY codesets, EDLs were identified by a systematic literature search for measures of performance or participation andby collecting professional opinions on EDL and participation. Information was linked to the ICF-CY andtriangulated with research exploring family opinions. Most items in measures were linked to moving around, play, and recreation and leisure. The six measures of performance and six of participation differed regardingcontent and content dependent on age group.Descriptions on EDLs from 297 professionals were linked to ICF-CY codes. Frequent linkages were Self-care,such as eating and hygiene; Major life areas, such as play and education; and Relationships, but also sleep. Byrelating EDLs directly to predefined ICF-CY categories in the ICF-CY component Activities and Participation, five EDLs across categories were identified based on responses from 207 professionals. These concernedsleep, communication, dressing, family relationships and play. Some differences emerged dependent onparticipants’ culture and on age group. A triangulation between professional and family opinions concerningEDL’s revealed relatively high agreement. As a final result, a set of approximately 12-15 everyday lifesituations is expected to be identified in this study to be used for development of code sets.

  • Brottsoffer i indikatorland : en analys av programidén och implementeringen av Öppna jämförelser inom brottsofferområdet
  • 2015
  • In: Presentation på Brottsoffermyndighetens viktimologiska forskarkonferens, 10 november 2015, Stockholm.
  • Conference paper (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Can governments support both women and entrepreneurship?
  • 2014
  • In: Diana International Research Conference 2014.
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Feminism in Sweden as well as in the other Scandinavian countries was largely formulated as state feminism. The women’s movement has cooperated with feminists in the state, resulting in societies that count as the most gender equal in the world. The Scandinavian countries are consistently ranked in the top position on international gender equality indices. The state has provided a large publicly financed welfare sector that both employs many women, and makes it possible to combine work and family through family friendly policies. The last decade has seen a political change influenced by neoliberal thought, in which politicians hand over welfare state responsibilities to the market, and instead encourage entrepreneurship, not least among women. The Swedish government has since 20 years back programs and policies to promote women’s entrepreneurship. The Swedish state has during the same period shrunk the public sector and privatized many operations in services and care, which traditionally employ many women. Instead, women are encouraged to start businesses in former public sectors. Empirical studies suggest however, that all of the increase of women’s entrepreneurship in these sectors is within low-paid, micro service businesses, typically child minding.Traditional state feminism has also changed character. Instead of public regulations, market solutions are advocated. In this paper we ask how to theorize this change from a feminist theory perspective; we ask what the implications for feminist action are, and we ask what consequences for women’s position in society are. We use research literature and policy texts as our empirical material and conduct a critical literature analysis. We conclude that the entrepreneurship discourse challenges, and possibly weakens state feminism and feminist action as we have known it in the Scandinavian countries, but may also offer new forms of feminist resistance, on market terms.

  • Swedish welfare state retrenchment and the call for women’s entrepreneurship to fill the void
  • 2015
  • In: The 4th European Conference on Politics and Gender 2015 June 11-13 Uppsala, Sweden. ; , s. 1-19
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The last two decades have seen major welfare state retrenchment in Sweden. The public sector, which used to be a large and stable employer for women, was downsized. Public schools and public health and care services were privatized. Customer choice models were introduced. The rhetoric connected to privatization stressed the unique opportunities for women formerly employed by the state to start their own businesses in this sector, now open for competition and private initiatives. In this paper we ask what the results were. We discuss the results from a feminist perspective, i.e we ask if privatization and business ownership has improved women’s situation on the labor market, or not. The paper draws together the research findings from our own empirical research (about fifteen different studies) as well as from research done by other Nordic scholars in the field.

  • Understanding Heart Failure Care as a Patient Learning Process
  • 2013
  • In: HCist'2013 - International Conference on Health and Social Care Information Systems and Technologies - leveraging health and social care through people, processes and information systems, to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 23 to 25 October, 2013.. - : Elsevier. ; 9, s. 930-939
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The paper deals with the planning of eHealth systems in the area of chronic care from a patient-centred perspective. The particular area is heart failure (HF) and systems that support patients’ possibilities to be active learners during the care processes. A better understanding of this process is hoped to create a basis for the development of appropriate information systems or information technology (IS/IT) support of learning processes. The objective of this paper is the development of a better understanding of the challenges of chronic illness with special focus on HF. The results are presented as a planning framework that guides the choice and design of ICT-based support systems.

  • Target Costing as a Dynamic Capability in Swedish Publicly Traded Companies
  • 2012
  • In: Paper presented at the 8th Asia-Pacific Management Accounting Association Annual Conference, Xiamen, China, November 14-17, 2012.
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • AbstractThe increased importance of product development can be seen in both recent research on Dynamic Capabilities as well as research on the use of Target Costing (TC). The Dynamic Capabilities literature is primarily developed in the USA and Europe, while the TC practice is rooted in Japanese practices and has been transferred to the west. This study examines the relationship between the Dynamic Capabilities of the product development team and the implementation of Target Costing (TC) in publicly traded companies in Sweden. Using established concepts from both the Dynamic Capabilities and Target Costing literatures we find partial support for the relationship. We suggest that there may be a bias in the development of Dynamic Capability research that does not comprehend organization practices such as those seen in Japan, Sweden and in Lean Production organizations more generally. Reasons for this are discussed and proposals for further research are proposed.

  • Water management and technology in Swedish municipalities. : Assessment of possibilities of exchange and transfer of experiences.
  • 2009
  • In: An International Perspective on Environmental and Water Resources Conference.
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The water and wastewater infrastructure began to be developed in Sweden more than one hundred years ago. Much attention was given, in the beginning, to fire prevention and hygienic problems with water borne diseases. Somewhat later storm sewers (combined system) were constructed to remove storm water and wastewater and then successively more efficient wastewater treatment plants were developed. Today water and wastewater handling is seen as a multidisciplinary subject where also attention is given to possible effects of climate changes and possibilities for resources recovery.Implementation of advanced water and wastewater systems involves not only different technologies but also effective administration and legislation. The implementation may be on national (also involving EU directives), regional and local scale. As a case study, the local implementation will be illustrated for the municipality Växjö in South Sweden with about 80,000 inhabitants.

  • A meaning-centered approach to positive management
  • 2009
  • In: Paper presented at the 4th International Conference in Innovation in Management, Poznan, Poland, May 21-22, 2009.
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This paper will present a meaning-centered approach (MCA) to positive management. This approach incorporates findings from positive psychology and skills from meaning-centered counselling. MCA is designed to create a positive, cooperative corporate culture and enhance work satisfaction and productivity by focusing on meaning and relationship. MCA has been applied to the creation of a positive culture (Wong, 2002a, Wong & Gupta, 2004), restoration of integrity (Wong 2002b, 2004) and improving team work and cooperation (Wong, 2005, 2006).
