  • Analytics for Maintenance of Transportation in Smart Cities
  • 2015
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cities typically face a wide range of management and maintenance problems. They are complex environments in which digital technologies are more and more pervasive; this digitization of the urban space has led to a rich ecosystem of data producers and data consumers. The connections and exchange of data increase, and the need for data acquisition, processing and management become an extremely important added value to the community. The inclusion of digitization and incorporation of predictive analytics provides a base for a sustainable smart city. This work considers an overview of different challenges that utilizes different technologies for within a smart city maintenance with respect to the transportation. A conceptual framework is proposed to handle the generated data for decision for control, monitoring, fault diagnosis and maintenance of more and more complex systems.

  • Changes and New Directions in Human Services : Selected conference proceedings of the 14th international Research Conference held at Luleå University of Technology, Human Work Science, October 2011
  • 2011
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Preface This Conference, organised jointly by Staffordshire University, the University of East London and the University of Luleå, have so far provided a forum for policy, organisational and multidisciplinary critical analyses of the dilemmas facing the organisation and delivery of health, housing, education, social services and the human services generally. The theme of the conference 2010 was Changes and new directions in Human services. Change has been a leitmotif of the Human Services and the Public sector more generally in recent years; and whilst it is an aspect of all organizational, social political and economic life, it has been especially rapid and far reaching in the human services, exuberated by the turbulence and fall-out from the present to initiate further change in new directions. We accordingly invited papers that examine the responses of public, private and voluntary sector organisations and governments in tackling the contemporary problems facing human services related to the changes and new directions in service delivery and organisational effectiveness (locally, regionally and globally), as well as ethical and gender issues concerning access to labour market, equity and quality of service. This years Dilemmas Conference presents a selection of short papers from the conference. The articles highlight the changes and potential directions of society where wealth is undergoing a shift towards more explicitly neo-liberal society, where the private market takes over part of what has previously been state and local government responsibility which has consequences for people who are in need of social services. These changes affect the welfare state actors in organizations such as education, social work and also affect the employability of the general, and over time these changes can have significant consequences for welfare and social rights. Three of these articles, “The Financial Meltdown and the Crisis of Reproduction: Imaginations of Performance, Participation and Social Justice” by Brigitte Aulenbacher and Birgit Riegraf, Vision: A Source of Innovation, Illusion or Social Control? by Kazem Chaharbaghi and Support and service for persons with intellectual disabilities: A study of changes and consequences in Finland and Sweden 1990 – 2010 Barbro Blomberg, Lena Widerlund, Anne-Marie Lindqvist have been published in a special issue in a Swedish journal called Socialvetenskaplig Tidskrift 2010 3-4, Vol 1. These articles have been published in Swedish in longer versions except for Kazem Chaharbaghis’ article which are the same article however in English in this Dilemmas proceedings.

  • Cities' Identity Through Architecture and Arts : Proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Cities' Identity through Architecture and Arts (CITAA 2017), Cariro, Egypt,  May 11-13, 2017
  • 2018
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Every city has its unique and valuable identity, this identity is revealed through its physical and visual form, it is seen through the eyes of its residents and users. The city develops over time, and its identity evolves with it. Reflecting the rapid and constant changes the city is subjected to, Architecture and Arts, is the embodiment of the cultural, historical, and economical characteristics of the city. This conference is dedicated for the investigation of the different new approaches developed in Architecture and Contemporary arts. It will focus on the basis of urban life and identities. It will discuss the examples and tendencies in dealing with urban identities as well as the transformation of cities and urban cultures mentioned in terms of their form, identity, and their current art. Contemporary art, when subjected to experiments, continues to be produced in various directions, to be consumed and to put forward new ideas. Art continuously renews itself -from new materials to different means of communication, from interactive works to computer games, from new approaches to perceptional paradigms and problems of city and nature of the millennium.

  • Cooperative education, experiential learning, and personal knowledge
  • 1981
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Cooperative education, experiential learning, and personal knowledge are addressed in nine conference papers. Kenneth Abrahamsson considers the nature of experiential learning, the recognition of prior learning, educational design and the assessment of quality, and policy and practice for integrating learning and experience. Harry Hienemann considers the history of cooperative education, the evaluation of outcomes integrating classroom and work experience, and mandatory cooperative education at Laguardia Community College, New York. What is known about the educational effects and economic consequences of programs that recognize prior learning is reviewed by Alan P. Wagner. Solomon Arbeiter examines a model that can be used to evaluate students in programs recognizing prior learning, as well as the award of credit or advanced standing. Douglas M. Windham evaluates the economic effects of recognizing prior learning and considers the implications for institutional policy. The nature and value of relevant work experience in the education of primary school teachers is considered by Hannu Perha, followed by Staffan Larsson's review of five qualitatively different conceptions of experience as viewed by teachers. Maureen L. Pope suggests that a cultural transmission approach to teaching and knowledge dominates science education and that this has neglected the role of personal experience in the construction of knowledge. Erich Leitner examines the implications of cooperation between the University of Klagenfurt, Austria, and the Austrian Workers Union. Implications for the university pertain to the philosophy of higher education and innovations
