  • Device for temperature compensation in an acoustic flow meter
  • 1999
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • A meter includes a casing (1) with a fluid passage (2), in which two transducer mountings (3, 4) arranged at a distance (Lb) from each other support two transducers (5, 6) which are acoustically opposed to each other. Between the transducers (5, 6) there is a distance (Lu) over which they transmit and receive sound pulses through a fluid which in a direction (a) flows through the fluid passage (2). On the basis of the transit times of the sound pulses over the distance (Lu) both countercurrently with and countercurrently to the direction of flow (a), e.g. the velocity of the flow of the fluid is then calculated. A compensating device (8, 9) is arranged between at least one of the transducers (5, 6) and one of the transducer mounts (3, 4). The compensating device (8, 9) is made of a material having a known function of thermal expansion and having such a length that a longitudinal change, caused by a change in temperature of the fluid, of the distance (Lb) between the transducer mounts (3, 4) and, thus, of the distance (Lu) between the transducers (5, 6) is essentially compensated for by an opposite longitudinal change of the compensating device (8, 9).

  • Method and apparatus for measuring mass flow
  • 1991
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Sammandrag från motsvarighet US5214966 PCT No. PCT/SE89/00615 Sec. 371 Date Apr. 29, 1991 Sec. 102(e) Date Apr. 29, 1991 PCT Filed Oct. 31, 1991 PCT Pub. No. WO90/05283 PCT Pub. Date May 17, 1990.In a method for measuring the mass flow M of a fluid flowing through a pipe having a cross-sectional area A, the sound velocity c2 in the fluid is determined as well as the flow velocity v of the fluid by sing-around technique. Further, reflection technique is used which comprises measuring the amplitude both of an ultrasonic pulse which has been reflected in a boundary between a first and a second material having different acoustic impedances, and of an ultrasonic pulse which has been reflected in the boundary between the second material and the fluid, it being possible to determine the density of the fluid on the basis of the measured amplitudes, the sound velocity c2 in the fluid and the acoustic impedances of the first and the second material. The mass flow M is then obtainable as M=vxAx rho 2. A mass flowmeter especially has a transducer with a piezoelectric crystal (5), a first block (6) of a first material disposed adjacent said crystal, and a second block (7) of a second material disposed between the first block and the fluid, and calculating and amplitude metering means (10 and 12).

  • Method and devices use in flow measurement
  • 1996
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • PCT No. PCT/SE96/00661 Sec. 371 Date Nov. 13, 1997 Sec. 102(e) Date Nov. 13, 1997 PCT Filed May 22, 1996 PCT Pub. No. WO96/37758 PCT Pub. Date Nov. 28, 1996In flow measurement, a measurement signal essentially representing the instantaneous flow rate is determined with the aid of a flow transducer (2) in a flowmeter (1). In order to check whether the flowmeter measures correctly or not, the noise in the measurement signal from the transducer (2) is analyzed. To be more specific, one or more distribution values for the measurement signal are determined and compared with predetermined reference values that have been determined for operating conditions for which the flow transducer is intended. If this comparison reveals that the existing operating conditions differ from those for which the flowmeter is intended, a frequency spectrum for the measurement signal may be determined and compared with reference spectra that have been determined for various known operating conditions, thereby to identify the existing operating conditions. If these are identified, the function of the flowmeter may be corrected on line with the aid of predetermined correction data.

  • Method for measuring in a fluid with the aid of sing-around technique
  • 1995
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Sammandrag från US5796009 During sing-around-type measurement in a fluid, a transmitter repeatedly transmits sound pulses in the fluid, and these sound pulses are received by a receiver, which acoustically is disposed opposite to the transmitter. The detection of the reception of a sound pulse at the receiver triggers the transmission of a subsequent sound pulse by the transmitter. In order to avoid any interference from multiple-reflected sound pulses, a delay is produced with the aid of the frequency of the received sound pulse, and the transmission of the subsequent sound pulse by the transmitter is triggered with this delay.

  • Tube/casting connector assembly and method
  • 1999
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • A tube (10)/casting (14) assembly and method according to which an axially projecting cylindrical flange (14a) projects from one end of a tubular casting (14) over which an end portion of the conduit (10) extends. A groove (14b) is formed in the casting (14) for receiving the end portion of the conduit (10) and a retainer (22a, 22b) secures the end portion of the conduit (10) in the groove (14b).

  • Method for localising errors in a flow meter
  • 1998
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The invention concerns a method for detecting misbehaviour of a mechanically based flow meter. The method comprises the steps of reading a primary flow signal of the flow meter several times per mechanical cycle; analysing the readings to find periodical, time-dependent variations; producing a current representation of the variations; and comparing the current representation with a corresponding normal representation which represents correctly operating meters of the same type, and detecting significant differences, if any.

  • A method of treating cement clinker
  • 1998
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • A method of treating cement clinker by grinding the clinker in a tubular mill while charging water, gypsum, and, optionally, also a water-reduction agent to the mill at the same time. The water has a pH of from about 9 to about 13. A microfill agent and/or a water-reduction agent is mixed with said the high pH-value water to form a slurry, which is added to the clinker during the grinding process together with microfill agent and/or water-reduction agent in a dry state. The high pH value of the water can be obtained by electrolysis.
