  • A head-model reconstruction based upon photogrammetric data from Sri Lankan adult males relevant to the design of headgear
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Journal of Human Ergology. - 0300-8134. ; 18:2, s. 199-211
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Due to the large variability in heads and faces in one population, the standard anthropometric dimensions of the head, measured from anatomical landmarks alone, may not suffice for the design of fitting headgear, e.g., helmets. To provide adequate data of the shapes and contours of the head to the designer, appropriate head models sculptured using comprehensive head dimensions, must be developed. This paper describes (a) a procedure of collecting comprehensive anthropometric data of the head using a photogrammetric method and (b) a simple sculpturing technique to reconstruct a head model of the user population

  • Body size variability between people in developed and developing countries and its impact on the use of imported goods
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0169-8141 .- 1872-8219. ; 4:2, s. 139-149
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Industrially Developing Countries (IDC) today, to a great extent, depend on Industrialized Countries (IC) for the supply of most industrial goods. An attempt has been made to ascertain the degree of design incompatibility experienced by users of these imported goods due to differences in the body sizes of people in producer and user countries. A comparative study of variations in body sizes is made from data available in literature and from anthropometric surveys. The results reveal differences in almost every part of the human body. The need for reliable anthropometric data in respect of IDC is stressed. Urgent measures are required to introduce changes in equipment, particularly for the benefit of users in IDC.

  • Thermal expansion of solid parahydrogen at helium temperatures
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Soviet Journal of Low Temperature Physics. - 0360-0335. ; 15:8, s. 492-493
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Thermal expansion of solid parahydrogen is investigated in the temperature range from 0.9 to 5 K. The content of the orthomodification in parahydrogen is 0.13 at. %, and that of nonhydrogen impurities is less than 2 10 - 3 at. %. No anisotropy in thermal expansion was observed within the experimental error. The temperature dependence of the linear expansion coefficient can be described by the expression α=1.82 10 - 7 T3. The obtained values of α are in good agreement with the available data on compressibility and ([partial derivate]p/[partial derivate]T)V. The Grüneisen coefficient is γ=3αV/CV`T=2.00 ± 0.25.

  • Continuous and stepwise cystometry through suprapubic catheters : effect of infusion pattern and infusion rate on the cystometrogram of the normal human bladder
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Clinical Physiology. - 0144-5979 .- 1365-2281. ; 9:1, s. 89-96
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Continuous cystometry at two filling rates (50 and 100 ml min-1) and stepwise cystometry (successive rapid volume infusions followed by bladder wall relaxation) were performed in 12 healthy subjects. Suprapubic catheters were used for infusion and recording of perivesical and intravesical pressures. The continuous cystometrograms obtained at filling rates of 50 and 100 ml min-1, respectively, did not differ with respect to desire to void, transmural pressure increase or bladder capacity. Stepwise cystometry allowed the bladders to be filled to a slightly larger volume than during continuous cystometry, but with comparatively lower transmural pressures only at very large distension of the bladder. There was considerable inter-individual variation in transmural pressure at both continuous and stepwise cystometry. Stepwise cystometry did not appear to provide any important additional information about pressure-volume relationship in the normal human bladder than could be obtained at routine clinical cystometry

  • Viscoelastic properties of the normal human bladder
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Urology and Nephrology. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0036-5599 .- 1651-2065. ; 23:2, s. 115-120
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Continuous and stepwise cystometry were performed through suprapubic catheters in 12 healthy young subjects in order to assess passive viscoelastic variables of the normal human bladder during the collection phase. Elastic contants increased non-linearly with bladder distension. Relative elastic modulus and relaxation time of the bladder wall increased or tended to increase with bladder distension and infusion rate. There was considerable interindividual variation in all variables suggesting that discrimination between normal and abnormal bladder wall viscoelasticity may be difficult in routine clinical practice.

  • Pulp chemistry in calcite flotation. : Modelling of oleate adsorption using theoretical equilibrium calculations
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Mining engineering. - 0026-5187. ; 2:1, s. 93-109
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper considers the conditions required for direct flotation of calcite. Flotation experiments have been performed with oleate as the collector reagent and water glass as the dispersant and modifier. To be able to explain what happens in the flotation, solubility and adsorption experiments have been conducted parallel to, and under the same conditions as, the flotation experiments. Theoretical equilibrium calculations have been made with the help of data from the practical experiments for the purpose of modelling the adsorption experiments. With theoretical equilibrium calculations it is possible to predict that silicate ions will form complexes with calcium ions at the mineral surface.

  • Pulp chemistry in industrial mineral flotation. Studies of surface complex on calcite and apatite surfaces using FTIR spectroscopy
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Mining engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 0026-5187. ; 2:2, s. 217-227
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Flotation experiments in a Hallimond tube have been performed on calcite and apatite at pH levels and oleate concentrations judged to be interesting from the point of view of adsorption isotherms. For the calcite system, adsorption isotherms indicate precipitation of calcium oleate after monolayer formation at pH 9, 10 and 11. In the apatite system, a double layer of oleate is formed. This means that apatite, unlike calcite, is sensitive to collector reagent overdosage. With the aid of FTIR techniques it is possible to demonstrate the existence of a surface complex in the apatite system with a calcium-oleate ratio of 1:1 at monolayer coverage of the surface. In conditions corresponding to bulk precipitation of calcium oleate, this compound can be detected by FTIR analysis of unfloated material.

  • Aberrant eating behavior in elderly parkinsonian patients with and without dementia : analysis of video-recorded meals
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Research in Nursing & Health. - : Wiley. - 0160-6891 .- 1098-240X. ; 12:1, s. 41-51
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aberrant eating behavior among 14 elderly, non-demented and 10 demented patients with Parkinson's disease was studied by means of video-recordings. The findings revealed problems in handling food on the plate, transporting food into the mouth, manipulating food in the mouth, and swallowing. Interpretations were performed based on impairments of autonomic processes, perception, cognition, emotion, and motor performance that occur in the disease.
