    • In this chapter, the relationship between humans and educational places and spaces is explored, reflected and discussed, using the phenomenology of the life-world as a theoretical foundation. The discussion is based mainly on the writings of the French philosophers Gaston Bachelard and Maurice Merleau-Ponty and the Swedish philosopher and educator Jan Bengtsson, and is grounded in the intertwined and reciprocal relationships between humans in the physical world in which they exist. The building itself, the place, the space, the room is explored in terms of its physical and actual existence and also metaphorically. The relationship between the school space and the people who inhabit is highlighted and problematised. In addition, the horizon of the classroom is discussed, as well as the spaces beyond the room. On an ontological level, rooms and spaces, which are both shaped by humans and provided by nature, are discussed. Alongside this, how the space/room sometimes arouses memories and feelings that may affect the human body is explored. The discussion also takes into account how educational sites, schools, during the current era of neoliberalism have been altered to become marketplaces.

    • Spotify som en strömmande medieaktör har idag en stor roll att spela för hur dagens, framförallt populärmusik, produceras och låter. Med den digitala tekniken, och i synnerhet den strömmande tekniken, underlättas möjligheten till förändring av innehållet i de ljudande filerna. Det går därför att finna många olika ljudande versioner av en och samma inspelning. Olikheterna kan dels bero på att verket har anpassats för olika distributionsformat, men kan också bero på att äldre verk har mastrats om för att få en dynamik och klangbild som motsvarar produktioner i närtid. I detta projekt har en studie, baserad på lyssningstester, genomförts för att utröna på vilket sätt dynamik och klang i musikproduktioner får betydelse för den musikaliska upplevelsen och vidare, hur utbildning och erfarenhet inom musik- eller ljudområdet kan spela roll i ens preferenser för olika versioner av samma inspelning. Ett huvudsyfte med kapitlet är att medvetandegöra lyssnandet för att förstå hur teknik både kan hjälpa och stjälpa möjligheterna till upplevelse av musik samt att öka medvetenheten för de kvaliteter i det musikaliska språket som kan komma att påverkas av de produktionsbeslut som berör dynamik och klang.

    • This chapter introduces the reader to lubrication theory and describes the governing equations, models and methods that can be used to simulate various types of lubricated systems. It starts with an introduction to the tribological contact and to the different lubrication regimes. The basis for the classical lubrication theory is then given and thereafter follows a presentation of how to obtain the Reynolds equation by means of scaling and asymptotic analysis of the Navier–Stokes equations. After having obtained the Reynolds equation, a quite elaborate presentation of cavitation algorithms is given. It includes discretisation and presents the analytical solution for a pocket bearing as a benchmark model problem. Then, the concept of homogenisation of surface roughness is introduced. This starts from the simplest iso-viscous and incompressible case, expands to include compressibility with a constant bulk modulus constitutive relation and then also addresses the case of ideal gases. Thereafter, the relation between homogenised coefficients and the Patir and Cheng flow factors is described and finally it is shown how to incorporate the effect of mixed lubrication into the model.

    • Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) is a very complex system where a new management layer must be developed. This chapter presents the benefits and challenges of deploying real-time Scheduling, Monitoring, and End-to-End SLA (SMeSLA) in CPS. We propose an SMeSLA conceptual architecture which allows end-users to submit their service level requirements to an SLA manager; as a result, scheduling and monitoring managers would operate accordingly. The SMeSLA management layer empowers CPS system to meet consumers’ satisfaction and achieve optimal performance. However, in order to successfully deploy SMeSLA in CPS, many technical and general challenges must be addressed.

    • High-entropy ceramics is an emerging class of high-entropy materials with properties superior to conventional ceramics. Recent research has been focused on the development of new high-entropy ceramic compositions. High-entropy oxides, carbides, borides, silicides, and boron carbides had been reported with superior mechanical, oxidation, corrosion, and wear properties. The research work on the processing and characterization of bulk high-entropy ceramics and coating systems has been summarized in this chapter. The composition design, structure, chemistry, composite processing of bulk high-entropy ceramics, and evolution of microstructure and properties are reported. The literature on the deposition of high-entropy ceramic coating and the influence of coating parameters have been discussed to produce high-entropy ceramic coatings with superior mechanical, oxidation, and wear properties.

  • Coupling of microbial electrosynthesis with anaerobic digestion for waste valorization

    • Anaerobic digestion (AD) has been widely applied bioprocess to produce the biogas for fuels from organic waste degradation. AD has been integrated with other processes for increasing the digestion efficiency and waste valorization. The integration of AD with other bioprocess optimizes the production of targeted product and reduces the waste. Recently, microbial electrosynthesis (MES) was coupled with AD for the biomethane production, chemical synthesis and resource recovery. MES coupling to AD also gives an opportunity for value-added chemical generation and hence provides additional economic gains of integrated system. In MES, the remaining carbon dioxide (CO2) in biogas is reduced to methane by methanogens utilizing in situ produced hydrogen at cathode, thereby enriching methane content. Furthermore, electroactive microbes could directly accept the electron from cathode to reduce the CO2 to methane and chemicals. Therefore, CO2 fraction in the biogas could be utilized for the further chemical synthesis such as acetate, butyrate. In this chapter, advances on AD technology and MES coupling with AD are thoroughly discussed for the production of fuels and chemicals. The outputs of recent laboratory scale experiments are summarized and discussed. Furthermore, mechanism of CO2 reduction is elaborated with methane and chemical production.

  • Prime Techniques for Pre- and Post-Treatments of Anaerobic Effluents and Solids

    • Several pre-treatment approaches have been explored to enhance the anaerobic fermentation kinetics and efficiency, which include thermal-alkaline treatment, free ammonia, sequential ultrasound techniques as well as grinding, and sieving. Additionally, valorization of mineralized compounds and production of reusable water can also be achieved via post-treatments. The post-treatment concept allows preserving or recovery of value-added byproducts in the form of manures, soil conditioners, and renewable energy. In this chapter, we explain the recent advancement in the pre-treatment and post-treatment of anaerobic digestate to enhance the anaerobic process and for the removal of undesirable compounds, recovery of energy, nutrients, and waste stabilization before disposal.
