  • Soft Skills Demand and Supply Through the Lens of Higher Education Students
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Vol. 22 No. 1 (2023): Proceedings of the 22nd European Conference on e-Learning - ECEL 2023. - Reading, UK : Academic Conferences International (ACI). - 2048-8645 .- 2048-8637. - 9781914587917 - 9781914587900
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Soft skills are becoming equally crucial as hard skills in today's labour market. In contrast to hard skills which are teachable typically through formal education, soft skills are non-technical and interpersonal, allowing individuals to be able to find and succeed in their studies, jobs, and professional life. Despite the increasing emphasis on soft skills, many university students are either unaware of or neglect enhancing them. Soft skills deficiency among university students has become a significant concern for employers, educators, and policymakers, as it negatively affects students' academic performance and future employment prospects. The purpose of this study is to investigate students’ perceptions of the demand for soft skills and the possibility and availability of learning opportunities. The expected outcomes intend to provide insights about awareness of soft skills among students and pathways to reduce the soft skills gap through training provisions in higher education settings. Furthermore, it aims to find out how the young generation (mainly Generation Z) would perceive digitalisation and specifically gamification as a solution to facilitate soft skills training. This is a mixed method study, in which, an open survey was the data collection media. The survey was conducted during the spring semester of 2023 and analysed using visualisation and summarisation methods. Based on the outcome of 66 master’s and bachelor's students attending the digitalisation courses in two classes in Sweden, over 50% of the students perceived a lack of soft skills in their curricula. They were also positive toward the use of gamification as an effective digital strategy, recognising it as a powerful tool to facilitate training and developing soft skills as a part of formal learning in higher education. As a suggested approach, gamifying soft skills training potentially creates simulations that mimic real-world situations to allow students to practice and develop their soft skills in a safe and low-stakes training environment. This facilitates training soft skills for better communication and collaboration during their academic journey and after their graduation and to prepare students for successful careers.

  • Understanding Supply Chain Visibility Through Experts’ Perspective: A Delphi Based Approach
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Advances in Production Management Systems. Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable and Resilient Production Systems. - Cham : Springer Nature. ; 633 IFIP, s. 189-196
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Visibility in production logistics and across the supply chain has become a key concern for organizations. Its need has been further emphasized due to the current COVID 19 crisis. Organizations find it challenging to prepare the internal logistics and supply chain, and quickly respond to such unexpected events, due to low visibility. Against this backdrop, the paper, which is a work-in-progress, systematically documents different factors influencing supply chain visibility and crucial information that should be collected and shared among supply chain partners for better visibility. A Delphi analysis is being conducted with twenty-six supply chain experts from various globally recognized enterprises with manufacturing units located worldwide. The study starts with a short open-ended questioner to collect a comprehensive list of antecedents, drivers, barriers, effects, and visibility information based on the qualitative response from the experts. The preliminary results from the first round of the Delphi analysis indicate that risk management, environmental sustainability, and supply chain control are some of the key drivers. Lack of IT infrastructure and maturity are some of the barriers, integrated systems, and technology maturity are among the key antecedents and gaining planning capability and better customer service are some of the positive effects of supply chain visibility as per the experts’ opinion. In addition, information related to planning, supplier location, and deviation are among the crucial ones that require the collection and sharing for better supply chain visibility. This research study is among the few that empirically explores factors influencing supply chain visibility and generates new insights as to why the barriers can be difficult to overcome in complex supply chain settings.

  • A note on the Mean Effective Radiated Power and the Mean Effective Receiver Sensitivity of mobile handheld terminals
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: 2008 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting. ; , s. 1-4, s. 4471-4474
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    •  In this paper we introduce the Mean Effective Radiated Power (MERP) and the Mean Effective Radiated Sensitivity (MERS) as alternative figures of merit of the uplink and downlink communication performance of wireless handheld terminals. We show how they are related to the Mean Effective Gain (MEG), the total radiated power (TRP) and total receiver sensitivity (TRS).

  • Branch cross-correlation in presence of spatially selective interference expressed in terms of the spherical vector wave expansion of the electromagnetic field
  • 2008
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we present an analysis of the cross-correlation coe±cient between signals at two antennabranches (ports) in the presence of spatially selective interference and additive white gaussian noise. Morespeci¯cally, we look at a §45± slanted polarization diversity arrangement, which is rotated around the axisperpendicular to the plane containing the antennas. Results are provided as a function of the rotation angle. The analysis is based on the spherical vector wave multi-pole expansion of both the ¯eld impinging on theantennas and the antenna radiation properties.

  • Cooperative Manipulation and Identification of a 2-DOF Articulated Object by a Dual-Arm Robot
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: 2018 IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION (ICRA). - 1050-4729. - 9781538630815 ; , s. 5445-5451
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work, we address the dual-arm manipula-tion of a two degrees-of-freedom articulated object that consistsof two rigid links. This can include a linkage constrainedalong two motion directions, or two objects in contact, wherethe contact imposes motion constraints. We formulate theproblem as a cooperative task, which allows the employment ofcoordinated task space frameworks, thus enabling redundancyexploitation by adjusting how the task is shared by the robotarms. In addition, we propose a method that can estimate thejoint location and the direction of the degrees-of-freedom, basedon the contact forces and the motion constraints imposed bythe object. Experimental results demonstrate the performanceof the system in its ability to estimate the two degrees of freedomindependently or simultaneously.

  • Hybrid control techniques for switched-mode DC-DC converters part I : The step-down topology
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: 2007 American Control Conference. - : IEEE. - 1424409888 - 9781424409884 ; , s. 5450-5457
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Several recent techniques from hybrid and optimal control are evaluated on a power electronics benchmark problem. The benchmark involves a number of practically interesting operating scenarios for a fixed-frequency synchronous step-down dc-dc converter. The specifications are defined such that good performance only can be obtained if the switched and nonlinear nature of the problem is respected during the design phase.

  • Acoustic features of multimodal prominences : Do visual beat gestures affect verbal pitch accent realization?
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of The 14th International Conference on Auditory-Visual Speech Processing (AVSP2017). - Stockholm : International Speech Communication Association. - 2308-975X.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The interplay of verbal and visual prominence cues has attracted recent attention, but previous findings are inconclusive as to whether and how the two modalities are integrated in the production and perception of prominence. In particular, we do not know whether the phonetic realization of pitch accents is influenced by co-speech beat gestures, and previous findings seem to generate different predictions. In this study, we investigate acoustic properties ofprominent words as a function of visual beat gestures in a corpus of read news from Swedish television. The corpus was annotated for head and eyebrow beats as well as sentence-level pitch accents. Four types of prominence cues occurredparticularly frequently in the corpus: (1) pitch accent only, (2) pitch accent plus head, (3) pitch accent plus head plus eyebrows, and (4) head only. The results show that (4) differs from (1-3) in terms of a smaller pitch excursion and shorter syllable duration. They also reveal significantly larger pitch excursions in (2) than in (1), suggesting that the realization of a pitch accent is to some extent influenced by the presence of visual prominence cues. Results are discussed in terms of the interaction between beat gestures and prosody with a potential functional difference between head and eyebrow beats.

  • Auditory vs. audiovisual prominence ratings of speech involving spontaneously produced head movements
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Speech Prosody : Speech Prosody 2022 - Speech Prosody 2022. - : International Speech Communication Association. - 2333-2042. ; , s. 352-356, s. 352-356
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Visual information can be integrated in prominence perception, but most available evidence stems from controlled experimental settings, often involving synthetic stimuli. The present study provides evidence from spontaneously produced head gestures that occurred in Swedish television news readings. Sixteen short clips (containing 218 words in total) were rated for word prominence by 85 adult volunteers in a between-subjects design (44 in an audio-visual vs. 41 in an audio-only condition) using a web-based rating task. As an initial test of overall rating behavior, average prominence across all 218 words was compared between the two conditions, revealing no significant difference. In a second step, we compared normalized prominence ratings between the two conditions for all 218 words individually. These results displayed significant (or near significant, p
