  • Management of Information Systems Outsourcing: Challenges and Lessons Learned
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing].
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To be successful in Information Systems (IS) outsourcing the necessity of better management practices has been pointed out. This research contributes to the knowledge base on management of IS outsourcing by addressing management of IS outsourcing relationships. The research describes two cases of IS outsourcing relationships that differ in type of activity outsourced, IS development versus IS maintenance and operation, and relationship composition. From the cases lessons learnt are identified which with support from IS outsourcing literature are proposed as propositions for management of IS outsourcing. It can be concluded that if the propositions, related to negotiation, communication and way of working, are adopted in an early stage they could contribute to successful IS outsourcing relationships. Another conclusion is that the IS outsourcing management approach should not differ between type of IS activity outsourced, but rather reflect the nature of the IS activity; if it is a simple or complex activity

  • Regime shifts in shallow lakes: the importance of seasonal fish migration
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Hydrobiologia. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0018-8158 .- 1573-5117. ; 646:1, s. 91-100
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Shallow eutrophic lakes commonly exist in two alternative stable states: a clear-water state and a turbid water state. A number of mechanisms, including both abiotic and biotic processes, buffer the respective states against changes, whereas other mechanisms likely drive transitions between states. Our earlier research shows that a large proportion of zooplanktivorous fish populations in shallow lakes undertake seasonal migrations where they leave the lake during winter and migrate back to the lake in spring. Based on our past research, we propose a number of scenarios of how feedback processes between the individual and ecosystem levels may affect stability of alternative stable states in shallow lakes when mediated by fish migration. Migration effects on shallow lakes result from processes at different scales, from the individual to the ecosystem. Our earlier research has shown that ecosystem properties, including piscivore abundance and zooplankton productivity, affect the individual state of zooplanktivorous fish, such as growth rate or condition. Individual state, in turn, affects the relative proportion and timing of migrating zooplanktivorous fish. This change, in turn, may stabilize states or cause runaway processes that eventually lead to state shifts. Consequently, such knowledge of processes coupled to seasonal migration of planktivorous fish should increase our understanding of shallow lake dynamics.

  • Evaluation of Oxalate Decarboxylase and Oxalate Oxidase for Industrial Applications
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Applied biochemistry and biotechnology. - : Humana Press. - 1559-0291 .- 0273-2289. ; 161:1-8, s. 255-63
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Increased recirculation of process water has given rise to problems with formation of calcium oxalate incrusts (scaling) in the pulp and paper industry and in forest biorefineries. The potential in using oxalate decarboxylase from Aspergillus niger for oxalic acid removal in industrial bleaching plant filtrates containing oxalic acid was examined and compared with barley oxalate oxidase. Ten different filtrates from chemical pulping were selected for the evaluation. Oxalate decarboxylase degraded oxalic acid faster than oxalate oxidase in eight of the filtrates, while oxalate oxidase performed better in one filtrate. One of the filtrates inhibited both enzymes. The potential inhibitory effect of selected compounds on the enzymatic activity was tested. Oxalate decarboxylase was more sensitive than oxalate oxidase to hydrogen peroxide. Oxalate decarboxylase was not as sensitive to chlorate and chlorite as oxalate oxidase. Up to 4 mM chlorate ions, the highest concentration tested, had no inhibitory effect on oxalate decarboxylase. Analysis of the filtrates suggests that high concentrations of chlorate present in some of the filtrates were responsible for the higher sensitivity of oxalate oxidase in these filtrates. Oxalate decarboxylase was thus a better choice than oxalate oxidase for treatment of filtrates from chlorine dioxide bleaching.

  • ZnO nanocrystals on SiO2/Si surfaces thermally cleaned in ultrahigh vacuum and characterized using spectroscopic photoemission and low energy electron microscopy
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology. A. Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films. - : American Vacuum Society. - 1520-8559 .- 0734-2101. ; 28:3, s. 438-442
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Thermal cleaning in ultrahigh vacuum of ZnO nanocrystals distributed on SiO2/Si surfaces has been studied using spectroscopic photoemission and low energy electron microscopy (SPELEEM). This study thus concern weakly bound ZnO nanocrystals covering only 5%-10% of the substrate. Chemical properties, crystallinity, and distribution of nanocrystals are used to correlate images acquired with the different techniques showing excellent correspondence. The nanocrystals are shown to be clean enough after thermal cleaning at 650 degrees C to be imaged by LEEM and x-ray PEEM as well as chemically analyzed by site selective x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (mu-XPS). mu-XPS shows a sharp Zn 3d peak and resolve differences in O 1s states in oxides. The strong LEEM reflections together with the obtained chemical information indicates that the ZnO nanocrystals were thermally cleaned, but do not indicate any decomposition of the nanocrystals. mu-XPS was also used to determine the thickness of SiO2 on Si. This article is the first to our knowledge where the versatile technique SPELEEM has been used to characterize ZnO nanocrystals.
