  • Digitalisering och organisering : Att skapa värde i det 21:a århundradet
  • 2017

  • 2005
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The subject of this dissertation is the so-called concrete poetry that was written in Sweden during the 1960s and, to a small extent, in the 1950s, by Öyvind Fahlström, Jarl Hammarberg, Åke Hodell, Bengt Emil Johnson, and others. The study is focused on a discussion of the forms and the ways of writing that were explored, but it also gives an account of the aesthetic-historical context – of the expanded field of the arts in the 1960s, of the early avant-garde, of related forms of writing in earlier literature, such as pattern poetry. The readings are oriented toward different aspects of the texts, such as ’kneaded’ words, disruptive syntax, ’algorithmic’ forms and methods, visuality, and sonority. Two key concepts are ’artifice’ and ’materiality’, both of which indicate how the texts discussed complicate a view of poetry as ’pure’ expression of thought and emotion, or as representation of speech or language (in a restricted sense). These writings use the alphabet in an unorthodox way, and they transgress its territory by approaching other arts and other forms of ’writing’.If one of the aims of the study is to analyze the poetical forms and operations at stake, another one is to connect these to a modern ’media age’, and to discuss the impact of media technologies as well as new conceptions and theories of writing, information, and communication (for example, cybernetics) on poetry. This contextualization gives a specific meaning and value to the texts, and paves the way for a series of questions about reading, subjectivity, and political aspects of poetry.

  • 2000
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The study is mainly about informal organising. The aim is to describe and interpret processes of organising in a health care unit and, from that example, to accomplish understanding of how power relations are handled and expressed by different actors in health care. I also intend to gain a deeper insight in how people produce subjectivity and social identity in a health care context and what prerequisites that context is offering for different actors to accomplish their projects. The site of the empirical study is a rehabilitation ward in a geriatric clinic. The work organisation, work routines and the management of the clinic is investigated through observations, interviews and organisational documents. The findings are presented as narratives of the organisation, where organising is interpreted as actor's interrelating projects. Four themes are in focus, A workplace in change, where the ward and clinic are introduced; Organising in the daily work, which includes team working and computerisation; Routines and rituals, which is about routinising, reporting and rounds; Organisation and management, where corporate features, organisation plans, meetings and decision-making are brought to the fore.In a reflective discussion, Organising as discursive and social practice, the organising processes are understood in terms of discourse, subjectivity and construction of social identity. Here I refer to foucauldian thinking about organisations. Actor's projects in the empirical example show a complexity of discourses, which are producing different kinds of subjectivity and constructions of social identity. The professional bureaucracy creates subjectivity from an institutionalised social order, the medical hierarchy, where the medical profession is in power. Furthermore there are other contemporary discourses such as the logic of the corporate organisation, which produces subjugation to economical outcomes. Demands for independence and autonomy are in different ways created in discourses of the developing professions of nurses and paramedics, their increasing documentation obligations, and the computerisation. An ambiguous picture emerges, where discursive and social practices are in some cases congruent but not in other. Social identity is still produced to a great deal from the medical hierarchy, which has become the social order. The above mentioned other discourses introduce competing discursive practices, which create possibilities to constructions of social identity with an increased autonomy for all professional groups.

  • Att ordna staden : Den nya storstadspolitiken växer fram
  • 2005
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The sociology of the city has two faces: one of threat and one of promises. Originally, the city was portrayed as a threat to social life and individual identity, while, in contrast, the neighbourhood was seen to include the promise of restoring basic social relations to the web of city life. Later, the neighbourhood itself came to be perceived as a threat, as it was seen to separate people from one another. The solution to this dilemma was that the neighbourhood should be an arena for meetings between different groups, supplying not strong ‘excluding’ bonds, but subtle ‘bridge-building’ ones. The aim of the first part in the thesis is to study the public view of the neighbourhood and its significance for social integration. The aim of the second part is to investigate the new metropolitan policy approach to attain the challenging goal of integration at the local municipal level. This is explored using the theoretical model of a democratic welfare society, as developed by Jürgen Habermas.Ethnic housing segregation, as a social problem, has evolved in several stages. In 1990 the promise became to combat ”problem areas” through various methods for integration, commitment, improved reputation, an increasing sense of community and environmental improvement. More recently, since 2000, the question of ethnic housing segregation appears to be being dealt with through a process of delegation of responsibility to various authorities with different areas of expertise and to local municipal authorities. This suggests a possible fragmentalization of approaches to ethnic housing segregation. In official discussion of ethnic housing segregation, an acknowledgement of the relational approach has been severely lacking. A review of the literature of neighbourhood effects shows that ethnic clustering can result in positive as well in negative effects. In a relational perspective, local networks are one of several other relations that, in combination with different structures and power distributions, effects integration between ethnic groups in the society.Principles from new metropolitan policy, referred to as ”bottom-up”, are similar to Habermas’ ideal. However, the concrete experiences highlight the difficulty in offering possibilities for rational communication, development of communicative knowledge, and even less communicative power. The new metropolitan policy has posed a new formulation of threat and promise. The dichotomy of segregation versus integration has developed into one of exclusion versus participation. The ideal has changed from formal to subjective integration, which includes civil participation in state business. The neighbourhood has served as one arena to start inclusive processes. The practice, on the contrary, is still dominated by measures aimed at making society work more efficiently through state intrusion into private matters i.e. governmentalization.
