- The archaeological fieldwork of the Finnish Institute at Athens in Arethousa, Paliambela, was conducted between 1999 and 2004 in co-operation with the 9th Byzantine Ephorate in Thessaloniki, the Greek Ministry of Culture and the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics. The aims of the Finnish project were to study the history of the Early Christian church and the site, to document and consolidate the pavements and walls found since 1994, and to prepare a plan for the future conservation, preservation and maintenance of the site. The conservation of the mosaic pavements was carried out from 2000 to 2003, and the conservation and treatment of the walls in 2004. Several field reports and analyses of the mosaic floors and their conservation have been published since the year 2000. The first larger synthesis of the results of the Finnish archaeological project in Arethousa, "The Early Christian Basilica of Arethousa in Macedonia I. Production, Consumption and Trade", was published in 2017 in the series "Papers and Monographs of the Finnish Institute at Athens".

- The Late Roman and Early Byzantine pottery found in the excavations of the Early Christian church at Paliambela in Arethousa, a site located in Northern Greece west of ancient Amphipolis, is very fragmentary and consists mainly of body sherds. Few pieces of imported fine ware were found, and only some fragments of African Red Slip Ware and Late Roman C Ware could be identified. However, some pieces of Macedonian Terra Sigillata Grise bowls were found in the area of the north aisle of the church. Cooking pots are the most usual form of coarse ware, but fragments of bowls, basins, jars and jugs were found, too. One of the jugs has a trefoil rim. Some of the pieces are decorated with single or grouped grooves, wave patterns and horizontal rouletted bands. These geometric motifs are either found as a sole decorative motif, or in combination with each other. Furthermore, there are fragments of Slavic Ware (two of them derive from rims) and some fragments of Sparkling Ware. In the storeroom that was excavated in the northern part of the church, seven large pithoi were found. These pithoi were covered with either large ceramic lids or schist slabs.
