  • Utilization of photon orbital angular momentum in the low-frequency radio domain
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : American Physical Society. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 99:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We show numerically that vector antenna arrays can generate radio beams that exhibit spin and orbital angular momentum characteristics similar to those of helical Laguerre-Gauss laser beams in paraxial optics. For low frequencies (1 GHz), digital techniques can be used to coherently measure the instantaneous, local field vectors and to manipulate them in software. This enables new types of experiments that go beyond what is possible in optics. It allows information-rich radio astronomy and paves the way for novel wireless communication concepts.

  • Conservation laws for the Maxwell-Dirac equations with dual Ohm's law
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Mathematical Physics. - MELVILLE : AMER INST PHYSICS. - 0022-2488 .- 1089-7658. ; 48:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using a general theorem on conservation laws for arbitrary differential equations proved by Ibragimov [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 333, 311-320 (2007)], we have derived conservation laws for Dirac's symmetrized Maxwell-Lorentz equations under the assumption that both the electric and magnetic charges obey linear conductivity laws (dual Ohm's law). We find that this linear system allows for conservation laws which are nonlocal in time. (c) 2007 American Institute of Physics.

  • A blockchain-based multi-factor authentication model for a cloud-enabled internet of vehicles
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Sensors. - : MDPI. - 1424-8220. ; 21:18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Continuous and emerging advances in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have enabled Internet-of-Things (IoT)-to-Cloud applications to be induced by data pipelines and Edge Intelligence-based architectures. Advanced vehicular networks greatly benefit from these architectures due to the implicit functionalities that are focused on realizing the Internet of Vehicle (IoV) vision. However, IoV is susceptible to attacks, where adversaries can easily exploit existing vulnerabilities. Several attacks may succeed due to inadequate or ineffective authentication techniques. Hence, there is a timely need for hardening the authentication process through cutting-edge access control mechanisms. This paper proposes a Blockchain-based Multi-Factor authentication model that uses an embedded Digital Signature (MFBC_eDS) for vehicular clouds and Cloud-enabled IoV. Our proposed MFBC_eDS model consists of a scheme that integrates the Security Assertion Mark-up Language (SAML) to the Single Sign-On (SSO) capabilities for a connected edge to cloud ecosystem. MFBC_eDS draws an essential comparison with the baseline authentication scheme suggested by Karla and Sood. Based on the foundations of Karla and Sood’s scheme, an embedded Probabilistic Polynomial-Time Algorithm (ePPTA) and an additional Hash function for the Pi generated during Karla and Sood’s authentication were proposed and discussed. The preliminary analysis of the proposition shows that the approach is more suitable to counter major adversarial attacks in an IoV-centered environment based on the Dolev–Yao adversarial model while satisfying aspects of the Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability (CIA) triad. © 2021 by the authors. • What is the word for 'Engineering' in Swedish : Swedish students conceptions of their discipline
  • 2007
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Engineering education in Sweden – as in the rest of the world – is experiencing a decline in student interest. There are concerns about the ways in which students think about engineering education, why they join an academic programme in engineering, and why they persist in their studies. In this context the aims of the Nationellt ämnesdidaktiskt Centrum för Teknikutbildning i Studenternas Sammanhang project (CeTUSS) is to investigate the student experience and to identify and support a continuing network of interested researchers, as well as in building capacity for disciplinary pedagogic investigation. The Stepping Stones project brings together these interests in a multi-researcher, multi-institutional study that investigates how tudents and academic staff perceive engineering in Sweden and in Swedish education. The first results of that project are reported here. As this study is situated uniquely in Swedish education, it allows for exploration of “a Swedish perspective” on conceptions of engineering. The Stepping Stones project was based on a model of research capacity-building previously instantiated in the USA and Australia (Fincher & Tenenberg, 2006).

  • An Approach towards using Agent in Multi-Agent Systems to streamline emergency services
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 5th International Conference on Information Technology and Applications. - Cairns, Austrailia. - 9780980326727
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In emergency services, the evaluation of a situation is performed, manually, which includes synchronizing the services for each situation. However, the work requires divergent and decisive decisions resolved from several points of views, which would benefit from automating parts of the work. Using computer systems in life-critical domains can nvolve careful consideration of the work practice and of the situation components. In this paper, we propose using agents, intelligent agents and meta-agents, to streamline emergency services. The intelligent agents respond to both static and dynamic input in a flexible and structured way and perform required actions. From these actions, the meta-agents are created in which the divisions of dynamic and static information have an impact on the structure of the calculations but also on the outcome produced by the meta-agents. As an example application, we provide a scenario of agents and meta-agents in multi-agent systems, where the meta-agents hold systemic properties. The scenario has a strong grounding in the emergency service domain, in which we highlight coordination issues related to the multi-agents and the meta-agents.

  • A comparison of machine learning algorithms on design smell detection using balanced and imbalanced dataset : A study of God class
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Information and Software Technology. - : Elsevier B.V.. - 0950-5849 .- 1873-6025. ; 143
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Context: Design smell detection has proven to be a significant activity that has an aim of not only enhancing the software quality but also increasing its life cycle. Objective: This work investigates whether machine learning approaches can effectively be leveraged for software design smell detection. Additionally, this paper provides a comparatively study, focused on using balanced datasets, where it checks if avoiding dataset balancing can be of any influence on the accuracy and behavior during design smell detection. Method: A set of experiments have been conducted-using 28 Machine Learning classifiers aimed at detecting God classes. This experiment was conducted using a dataset formed from 12,587 classes of 24 software systems, in which 1,958 classes were manually validated. Results: Ultimately, most classifiers obtained high performances,-with Cat Boost showing a higher performance. Also, it is evident from the experiments conducted that data balancing does not have any significant influence on the accuracy of detection. This reinforces the application of machine learning in real scenarios where the data is usually imbalanced by the inherent nature of design smells. Conclusions: Machine learning approaches can effectively be used as a leverage for God class detection. While in this paper we have employed SMOTE technique for data balancing, it is worth noting that there exist other methods of data balancing and with other design smells. Furthermore, it is also important to note that application of those other methods may improve the results, in our experiments SMOTE did not improve God class detection. The results are not fully generalizable because only one design smell is studied with projects developed in a single programming language, and only one balancing technique is used to compare with the imbalanced case. But these results are promising for the application in real design smells detection scenarios as mentioned above and the focus on other measures, such as Kappa, ROC, and MCC, have been used in the assessment of the classifier behavior. © 2021 The Authors

  • Visualization of spiral drawing data of patients with Parkinson's disease
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: IEEE International Conference on Information Visualization. - : IEEE Press. - 9781479941032 ; , s. 346-350, s. 346-350, s. 346-350
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) need to be frequently monitored in order to assess their individual symptoms and treatment-related complications. Advances in technology have introduced telemedicine for patients in remote locations. However, data produced in such settings lack much information and are not easy to analyze or interpret compared to traditional, direct contact between the patient and clinician. Therefore, there is a need to present the data using visualization techniques in order to communicate in an understandable and objective manner to the clinician. This paper presents interaction and visualization approaches used to aid clinicians in the analysis of repeated measures of spirography of PD patients gathered by means of a telemetry touch screen device. The proposed approach enables clinicians to observe fine motor impairments and identify motor fluctuations of their patients while they perform the tests from their homes using the telemetry device.

  • E-Science technologies in a workflow for personalized medicine using cancer screening as a case study
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: JAMIA Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. - : Oxford University Press. - 1067-5027 .- 1527-974X. ; 24:5, s. 950-957
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: We provide an e-Science perspective on the workflow from risk factor discovery and classification of disease to evaluation of personalized intervention programs. As case studies, we use personalized prostate and breast cancer screenings.Materials and Methods: We describe an e-Science initiative in Sweden, e-Science for Cancer Prevention and Control (eCPC), which supports biomarker discovery and offers decision support for personalized intervention strategies. The generic eCPC contribution is a workflow with 4 nodes applied iteratively, and the concept of e-Science signifies systematic use of tools from the mathematical, statistical, data, and computer sciences. Results: The eCPC workflow is illustrated through 2 case studies. For prostate cancer, an in-house personalized screening tool, the Stockholm-3 model (S3M), is presented as an alternative to prostate-specific antigen testing alone. S3M is evaluated in a trial setting and plans for rollout in the population are discussed. For breast cancer, new biomarkers based on breast density and molecular profiles are developed and the US multicenter Women Informed to Screen Depending on Measures (WISDOM) trial is referred to for evaluation. While current eCPC data management uses a traditional data warehouse model, we discuss eCPC-developed features of a coherent data integration platform.Discussion and Conclusion: E-Science tools are a key part of an evidence-based process for personalized medicine. This paper provides a structured workflow from data and models to evaluation of new personalized intervention strategies. The importance of multidisciplinary collaboration is emphasized. Importantly, the generic concepts of the suggested eCPC workflow are transferrable to other disease domains, although each disease will require tailored solutions.

  • Relationships among ERP post-implementation success constructs : An analysis at the organizational level
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Computers in human behavior. - : Elsevier BV. - 0747-5632 .- 1873-7692. ; 26:5, s. 1136-1148
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract: Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems implementation success factors have been widely researched, however, few have investigated ERP post-implementation success in organizational contexts. The paucity of research Into ERP system success evaluations partly motivates this research To that end, the objective of this study is twofold First, it primarily investigates the relationships among six constructs or dimensions in a respecified ERP system success measurement model, which was developed from prior relevant frameworks. Second, this research adds to the body of knowledge in the information system (IS) success evaluation domain, especially with its focus on ERP packages The extended ERP system success model was tested using data collected in a cross-sectional field survey of 109 firms in two European countries Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test six relevant hypotheses. The SEM results showed that five out of the six hypotheses have significant, positive associations. Namely, the constructs of System Quality, Service Quality, Individual Impact, Workgroup Impact, and Organizational Impact have strong relevance in ERP success conceptualization, whereas Information Quality does not, at least, in the context of our data. The pertinence of the study's findings for IS success evaluation as well as its implications for practice and research are discussed.
