  • Archives and children’s cultural heritage
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Archives and records. - : Taylor & Francis. - 2325-7962 .- 2325-7989.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this explorative and collectively written paper, researchers and archivists from the research project Children’s cultural heritage — the visual voices of the archive ponder, wrestle with, confront, and dig deeper into what it means to preserve and include children’s own voices in archives. The authors acknowledge that child-produced cultural objects are historical landmarks and significant parts of national heritage. The article raises questions about where and how the ‘doing’ of what is here called children’s cultural heritage takes place, what it means to archive from children’s perspectives, and what aspects of children are saved during these preservation and archival management processes. To collect, preserve and provide access to heritage might empower and affirm individuals and subordinated groups of people who have not been seen or heard in the historical past, in the present, or in future pasts. Children, as a category, is one such subordinated group in heritage contexts. Adults therefore have a responsibility to empower children by strengthening their position towards other social groups, towards society and the heritage domain. This article provides insights into the challenges that heritage establishments face in taking children’s cultural heritage seriously.

  • Digital Conceptual History and the Emergence of a Globalized Climate Imaginary
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Contributions to the History of Concepts. - : Berghahn Books. - 1807-9326 .- 1874-656X. ; 17:2, s. 95-122
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article offers an exploratory quantitative analysis of the conceptual career of climate in US English over the period 1800–2010. Our aim is to qualify two, closely related arguments circulating in Environmental Humanities scholarship regarding the concept’s history, namely that we only started to think of climate as a global entity aft er the introduction of general circulation models during the final quarter of the twentieth century, and, second, that climatic change only became an issue of environmental concern once scientists began to approach climate as a global model. While we do not dispute that the computer revolution resulted in a significantly new understanding of climate, our analysis points to a longer process of singularization and growing abstraction starting in the early nineteenth century that might help to nuance and deepen insights developed in environmental history.

  • Läsning - apparat - algoritm
  • 2016
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Vilken betydelse har tejp för litteraturen? Hur blir poesi signaler?

  • A History of the Surrealist Novel
  • 2023. - 1
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A History of the Surrealist Novel offers a rich, long, and elastic historiography of the surrealist novel, taking into consideration an abundance of texts previously left out of critical accounts. Its twenty thematically organized chapters examine surrealist prose texts written in French, English, Spanish, German, Greek, and Japanese, from the emergence of the surrealist movement in the 1920s and 1930s, through the post-war and postmodern periods, and up to the contemporary moment. This approach extends received narratives regarding surrealism's geographical locations and considers its transnational movement and modes of circulation. Moreover, it challenges critical biases that have defined surrealism in predominantly masculine terms, and which tie the movement to the interwar or early post-war years. This book will appeal both to scholars and students of surrealism and its legacies, modernist literature, and the history of the novel.

  • Language policies in play : Learning ecologies in multilingual preschool interactions among peers and teachers
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Multilingua - Journal of Cross-cultural and Interlanguage Communication. - : Mouton de Gruyter. - 0167-8507 .- 1613-3684. ; 36:4, s. 451-475
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study we argue that a focus on language learning ecologies, i.e., situations for participation in various communicative practices can shed light on the intricate processes through which minority children develop or are constrained from acquiring cultural and linguistic competencies (here of a majority language). The analysis draws on a language socialization approach to examine the micro-level contexts of an immigrant child’s preschool interactions with peers and teachers and the interplay between these and macro-level language and educational policies. It was found that the focal girl mainly participated in unstructured peer play due to the preschool educational and language policy. The girl’s limited Swedish (simple nouns, verbs, formulaic expressions) served as a resource for collusive peer language play (negatively keyed recyclings, mimicking, nonsensical words) portraying her language as incomprehensible. In interaction with teachers the child’s nonverbal acts were interpreted into verbal forms (repeating and expanding conversational, lexical and grammatical contributions). The fact that the girl did not align with the teacher’s conversational contributions created a negative affectively valorized language-learning ecology. Our study demonstrates how educational and language policies as they are managed on the micro-interactional level in everyday preschool activities may cast children’s peer group as the main language socialization agent for beginners.
