  • Augmented Reality and Indoor Positioning in Context of Smart Industry: A Review
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Management and Production Engineering Review. - : Polish Academy of Sciences. - 2080-8208 .- 2082-1344. ; 13:4, s. 72-87
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Presently, digitalization is causing continuous transformation of industrial processes. However, it does pose challenges like spatially contextualizing data from industrial processes. There are various methods for calculating and delivering real-time location data. Indoor positioning systems (IPS) are one such method, used to locate objects and people within buildings. They have the potential to improve digital industrial processes, but they are currently under utilized. In addition, augmented reality (AR) is a critical technology in today’s digital industrial transformation. This article aims to investigate the use of IPS and AR in manufacturing, the methodologies and technologies employed, the issues and limitations encountered, and identify future research opportunities. This study concludes that, while there have been many studies on IPS and navigation AR, there has been a dearth of research efforts in combining the two. Furthermore, because controlled environments may not expose users to the practical issues they may face, more research in a real-world manufacturing environment is required to produce more reliable and sustainable results

  • Job satisfaction and wellbeing among migrant care workers in nursing homes : An integrative review
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Nursing Open. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 2054-1058. ; 10:6, s. 3486-3505
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: To systematically analyse and synthesize studies investigating job satisfaction (including turnover and turnover intention) and wellbeing (physical, social and psychological including work stress, acculturation stress and sick leave) among migrant care workers in nursing homes.Design: An integrated review was conducted. Methods: Joanna Briggs Institute's manual guided the analysis of qualitative data (n = 31). Quantitative data (n = 17) were summarized and integrated with the qualitative findings. Results: Migrants described high job demands, limited control and social support, and stress possibly related to acculturation. Although, compared to natives (born in the country), inconsistent results were reported about wellbeing and job satisfaction, migrant care workers reported enjoying the relational aspects of work and feeling pride when providing care. A satisfying work environment for migrant care workers enables them enjoying working in elderly care with pride.Public Contribution: Help managers to promote an inclusive working life in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 8.

  • Surgical Healthcare Interventions after Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting : A Review of the Evidence
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: CLINICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL OBSTETRICS & GYNECOLOGY. - : IMR Press. - 0390-6663 .- 2709-0094. ; 49:6
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is a global public health problem associated with an increased risk of physical, sexual, and mental health consequences. Surgical healthcare intervention may alleviate negative health consequences related to FGM/C. In this review, we aim to offer an overview of documented effects of surgical healthcare interventions after FGM/C, from the perspectives of both healthcare providers (HCPs) performing such interventions and the women receiving them. Methods: We searched four databases (PUBMED/MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsychInfo, Cochrane Library) for peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2021, and retrieved a total of 1978 citations (1203 + 775). After scrutinizing the citations with the inclusion criteria (1) observable outcomes of surgical healthcare interventions after FGM/C, (2) HCPs' perceptions of FGM/C-related surgical healthcare and experiences of providing surgical care for FGM/C-affected women, and (3) FGM/C-affected women's perceptions and experiences of the effects of FGM/C-related surgical healthcare, we selected 38 articles to include in this review. Results: HCPs and FGM/C-affected women differed in their views on surgical interventions. While providers seemed to suggest premarital defibulation regardless of a woman's age and marital status, affected women voiced social and marital concerns related to defibulation, which sometimes overrode the physical consequences. On the other hand, some providers were reluctant to perform intrapartum defibulation due to uncertainty or misinformation about infibulated women's wishes, while women often expected and desired defibulation prenatally. And while gynecologists demonstrated skepticism towards clitoral reconstruction, most women who had undergone the procedure were satisfied, particularly regarding the psychosocial and sexual aspects. Conclusions: Providers and recipients of surgical interventions after FGM/C seem to display contrasting views on surgical intervention after FGM/C, which may have implications for healthcare recommendations as well as satisfaction. This apparent ambiguity between providers' and recipients' perceptions of surgical interventions needs further investigation.

  • Telephone Nursing in Sweden : a narrative literature review
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Nursing and Health Sciences. - : Wiley. - 1441-0745 .- 1442-2018. ; 19:3, s. 278-286
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • elephone nursing services are expanding globally. Swedish Healthcare Direct is the largest healthcare provider in Sweden. This paper provides a comprehensive understanding of telephone nursing, as reflected by research on Swedish national telephone nursing, and discusses the findings in relation to international literature. A descriptive, mixed-studies literature review was conducted. Twenty-four articles from January 2003 to April 2015 were identified from PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL, and included. The issues explored in this study are how telephone nursing is perceived by callers, telephone nurses, and managers, and what characterizes such calls. Callers value reassurance, support, respect and satisfaction and involvement in decisions can increase their adherence. The telephone nurses' perspective focused on problems and ethical dilemmas, communication, the decision support tool, and working tasks. The managers' perspective focused on nursing work goals and malpractice claims. Concerning call characteristics, authentic calls, incident reports, and threats to patient safety were considered. Telephone nursing seems safe, but gender can play a role in calls. Future research on caller access, equity, and efficiency, healthcare cost-effectiveness, distribution, and patient safety is needed.

  • Ultrafiltration rate as a nursing-sensitive quality indicator in haemodialysis
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Nursing Studies. - : Elsevier BV. - 0020-7489 .- 1873-491X. ; 49:10, s. 1320-1324
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nursing quality indicators are widely used to demonstrate nurses' contributions to health care. Some studies in nephrology settings have addressed nursing quality, but indicators reflecting the nursing process quality in haemodialysis are lacking. This paper argues for considering ultrafiltration rate as a nursing-sensitive quality indicator in haemodialysis. Strategies and qualifications for considering ultrafiltration rate as a nursing quality indicator are established and discussed. It is argued that the indicator is associated with nursing practice, linked to both morbidity and mortality, and is within the scope of the nurse's responsibility. It is also argued that the indicator could be influenced by other factors than nursing care. Thus, further studies are needed to investigate the association between ultrafiltration rate and patient safety. The introduction of the ultrafiltration rate as a duty specific quality indicator is a coveted measure of nursing care quality in haemodialysis settings.

  • A scoping review of complexity science in nursing
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Advanced Nursing. - : John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. - 0309-2402 .- 1365-2648. ; 76:8, s. 1961-1976
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract: Aim To describe how complexity science has been integrated into nursing.Design: A scoping review. Data source/review method Academic Search Elite, Scopus, PsycINFO, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, PubMed and Web of Science were searched November 2016, updated in October 2017 and January 2020. The working process included: problem identification, literature search, data evaluation, synthesizing and presentation. Results Four categories were found in the included 89 articles: 1) how complexity science is integrated into the nursing literature in relation to nursing education and teaching; 2) patients? symptoms, illness outcome and safety as characteristics of complexity science in nursing; 3) that leaders and managers should see organizations as complex and adaptive systems, rather than as linear machines; and 4) the need for a novel approach to studying complex phenomena such as healthcare organizations. Lastly, the literature explains how complexity science has been incorporated into the discourse in nursing and its development. Conclusion: The review provided strong support for use in complexity science in the contemporary nursing literature. Complexity science is also highly applicable and relevant to clinical nursing practice and nursing management from an organizational perspective. The application of complexity science as a tool in the analysis of complex nursing systems could improve our understanding of effective interactions among patients, families, physicians and hospital and skilled nursing facility staff as well as of education.Impact: Understanding complexity science in relation to the key role of nurses in the healthcare environment can improve nursing work and nursing theory development. The use of complexity science provides nurses with a language that liberates them from the reductionist view on nursing education, practice and management.

  • Multimechanistic Single-Entity Combinations for Chronic Pain Control : A Narrative Review
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Cureus. - : Cureus, Inc.. - 2168-8184. ; 14:6
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Atypical opioids such as tramadol, tapentadol, and cebranopadol combine two complementary mechanisms of action into a single molecule, creating novel analgesic agents. These are synthetic small molecules: cebranopadol is not yet market released; tramadol and tapentadol are commercially available and have immediate-release (IR) and extended-release (ER) formulations. Tramadol has been widely used in the United States in recent years and works as a prodrug in that its metabolites are active in inhibiting serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake. Tapentadol is a direct-acting agent with a faster onset of action and is a muopioid-receptor agonist and also inhibits noradrenaline reuptake. Cebranopadol is the newest of these drugs, a first-in-class atypical analgesic that combines mu-opioid receptor (MOR) agonism with activity at the nociception/orphanin (NOP) FQ petide receptors. Cebranopadol may be considered a partial kappaopioid receptor agonist as well. The pharmacology of these unique single-entity agents allows them to offer analgesic benefit with fewer side effects and risks. Clinical studies have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of tramadol and tapentadol, and promising but limited studies for cebranopadol show good analgesic effect and safety. Serotonin toxicity or 'serotonin syndrome' may occur with accumulation of serotonin with tramadol. While the misuse of these agents is limited in the United States, tramadol misuse is prevalent in Iran and parts of Africa. Patients have been successfully rotated from one of these agents to another. All three agents show promise in the treatment of cancer and non-cancer pain and their unique formulation in a single molecule reduces the pill burden.

  • Suicide by Opioid : Exploring the Intentionality of the Act
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Cureus. - : Cureus, Inc.. - 2168-8184. ; 13:9
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Opioid toxicity can result in life-threatening respiratory depression. Opioid-overdose mortality in the United States is high and increasing, but it is difficult to determine what proportion of those deaths might actually be suicides. The exact number of Americans who died of an opioid overdose but whose deaths might be classified as suicide remains unknown. It is important to differentiate between those who take opioids with the deliberate and unequivocal objective of committing suicide, that is, those with active intent, from those with passive intent. The passive-intent group understands the risks of opioid consumption and takes dangerous amounts, but with a more ambiguous attitude toward suicide. Thus, among decedents of opioid overdose, a large population dies by accident, whereas a small population dies intending to commit suicide; but between them exists a sub-population with equivocal intentions, waxing and waning between their desire to live and the carelessness about death. There may be a passive as well as active intent to commit suicide, but less is known about the passive motivation. It is important for public health efforts aimed at reducing both suicides and opioid-use disorder to better understand the range of motivations behind opioid-related suicides and how to combat them.

  • Factors associated with return-to-work among people on work absence due to long-term neck or back pain : a narrative systematic review
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: BMJ Open. - : BMJ. - 2044-6055. ; 7:6
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE:The purpose of this narrative systematic review was to summarise prognostic factors for return to work (RTW) among people with long-term neck/shoulder or back pain.METHODS:A systematic literature search was performed through three databases (Medline, CINAHL and PsycINFO) for studies published until February 2016. Only observational studies of people on work absence (≥2 weeks) due to neck/shoulder or back pain were included. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using guidelines for assessing quality in prognostic studies on the basis of Framework of Potential Biases. Factors found in the included studies were grouped into categories based on similarities and then labelled according to the aspects covered by the factors in the category.RESULTS:Nine longitudinal prospective cohort studies and one retrospective study fulfilled the inclusion criteria. From these, five categories of factors were extracted. Our findings indicate that recovery beliefs, health-related factors and work capacity are important for RTW among people with long-term neck or back pain. We did not find support for workplace factors and behaviour being predictive of RTW.CONCLUSIONS:Our findings suggest that recovery beliefs, perceived health and work capacity may be important targets of intervention for people with long-term neck or back pain. However, more high-quality prospective studies are needed to confirm the results and improve our understanding of what is needed to facilitate RTW in this population.
