  • A physical compact model for electron transport across single molecules
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: IEEE transactions on nanotechnology. - 1536-125X .- 1941-0085. ; 5:6, s. 745-749
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Prediction of current flow across single molecules requires ab initio electronic structure calculations along with their associated high computational demand, and a means for incorporating open system boundary conditions to describe the voltage sources driving the current. To date, first principle predictions of electron transport across single molecules have not fully achieved a predictive capability. The situation for molecular electronics may be compared to conventional technology computer-aided design (TCAD), whereby various approximations to the Boltzmann transport equation are solved to predict electronic device behavior, but in practice are too time consuming for most circuit design applications. To simplify device models for circuit design, analytical but physically motivated models are introduced to capture the behavior of active and passive devices; however, similar models do not vet exist for molecular electronics. We follow a similar approach by evaluating an analytical model achieved by combining a mesoscopic transport model with parameterizations taken from quantum chemical calculations of the electronic structure of single molecule bonded between two metal contacts. Using the model to describe electron transport across benzene- 1,4-dithiol and by comparing to experiment, we are able to extract the coupling strength of the molecule attached to two infinite metal electrodes. The resulting procedure allows for accurate and computationally efficient modeling of the static (dc) characteristics of a single molecule, with the added capability of being able to study the physical model parameter variations across a range of experiments. Such simple physical models are also an important step towards developing a design methodology for molecular electronics.

  • Uppdrag revision. : Revisorsprofessionen i takt med förväntingarna?
  • 2005
I Uppdrag revision sätts revisorerna under luppen.

  • Onset of drowsiness and satiation after meals with different energy contents
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Nutrition and Health. - : SAGE Publications. - 0260-1060 .- 2047-945X. ; 15, s. 87-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The investigation consisted of a laboratory study with 10 healthy subjects who were both sleep and food deprived prior to each experimental condition. The aim of the study was to investigate the importance of energy content and the bulk of food on wakefulness and satiation. Each subject was tested in four conditions, each with equal food composition but different energy amounts: 100, 500 and 1000 kcal and 100 kcal with low bulk content. Recordings and ratings of wakefulness and satiations were carried out throughout the investigation, starting 30 minutes before and continuing until 90 minutes after intake of the food alternatives. No differences in wakefulness could be observed after the four food alternatives. However, subjects rated themselves as more satiated after the food alternatives with higher energy content and higher bulk

  • Relationship between urinary albumin and albumin/creatinine ratio during normal pregnancy and pre-eclampsia.
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Scand J Clin Lab Invest. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0036-5513 .- 1502-7686. ; 64:1, s. 17-23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Risberg A, Larsson A, Olsson K, Lyrenäs S, Sjöquist M.Department of Nursing and Health Sciences, Mid Sweden University, Ornsköldsvik, Sweden. anitha.risberg@mh.sePre-eclampsia is a serious complication of pregnancy and it is important to detect the condition as early as possible. Albuminuria is an important symptom of pre-eclampsia and repeated urine analyses to screen for the condition are part of the standard antenatal care. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether measurement of the urine albumin/creatinine ratio in spot samples could be a complement to the dipstick method and could reduce the need for 24-h urine collections. Urine samples were collected for 24 h in weeks 12, 24 and 36 of pregnancy from both normotensive women and women who developed hypertension or who had pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) when they entered the study. The 24-h albumin excretion was significantly correlated to the albumin/creatinine ratio in all measurements (Pearson correlation coefficient). In week 12, the values were: n = 44, r = 0.964, p < 0.001 (normotensive group) and in the PIH group: n = 8, r = 0.789, p < 0.05. In week 24, the correlation values were r = 1.0 and p < 0.001 in both the normotensive group (n = 41) and in the PIH group (n = 11). In week 36 the correlation values were r = 0.791 and p < 0.001 in the normotensive group (n = 39) and r = 1.0 and p < 0.001 in the PIH group (n = 16). Microalbuminuria was defined as urine albumin excretion higher than 30 mg/24 h and this corresponded to an albumin/creatinine ratio of 2.9. Microalbuminuria was found in three persons in the PIH group and in two persons in the normotensive group. Overt albuminuria (> 300 mg/24 h) was found in one of the 46 normotensive women (2%) and in 3 of the 19 PIH women (16%). In all these women the high albumin values had been detected by using the albumin/creatinine ratio method. In conclusion, it has been found that the albumin excretion in urine correlates significantly to the albumin/creatinine ratio during pregnancy. The urinary albumin/creatinine ratio appears to be a good alternative to the dipstick method and to 24-h urine collections.PMID: 15025425 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

  • A Comparison of a Novel Stretchable Smart Patch for Measuring Runner’s Step Rates with Existing Measuring Technologies
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Sensors. - : MDPI. - 1424-8220. ; 22:13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel wearable smart patch can monitor various aspects of physical activity, including the dynamics of running, but like any new device developed for such applications, it must first be tested for validity. Here, we compare the step rate while running in place as measured by this smart patch to the corresponding values obtained utilizing ‘‘gold standard’’ MEMS accelerometers in combination with bilateral force plates equipped with HBM load cells, as well as the values provided by a three-dimensional motion capture system and the Garmin Dynamics Running Pod. The 15 healthy, physically active volunteers (age = 23 ± 3 years; body mass = 74 ± 17 kg, height = 176 ± 10 cm) completed three consecutive 20-s bouts of running in place, starting at low, followed by medium, and finally at high intensity, all self-chosen. Our major findings are that the rates of running in place provided by all four systems were valid, with the notable exception of the fast step rate as measured by the Garmin Running Pod. The lowest mean bias and LoA for these measurements at all rates were associated consistently with the smart patch.

  • Reliability and validity of running step rate derived from a novel wearable Smart Patch
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: IEEE Sensors Journal. - : IEEE. - 1530-437X .- 1558-1748. ; 24:9, s. 14343-14351
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel, wearable, stretchable Smart Patch can monitor various aspects of physical activity, including the dynamics of running. However, like any new device developed for such applications, it must first be tested for validity and reliability. Here, we compare the step rate while running on a treadmill measured by this smart patch with the corresponding values obtained with the ”gold standard” OptoGait, as well as with other devices commonly used to assess running dynamics, i.e., the MEMS accelerometer and commercially available and widely used Garmin Running Dynamic Pod. The 14 healthy, physically active volunteers completed two identical sessions with a 5-minute rest between. Each session involved two one-minute runs at 11 km/h and 14 km/h separated by a one-min rest. The major finding was that the Smart Patch demonstrated fair to good test-retest reliability. The best test-retest reliability for the Running Pod was observed in connection with running at 11 km/h and both velocities combined (good and excellent, respectively) and for the OptoGait when running at 14 km/h (good). The best concurrent validity was achieved with the Smart Patch, as reflected in the highest Pearson correlation coefficient for this device when running at 11 or 14 km/h, as well as for both velocities combined. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that the novel wearable Smart Patch shows promising reliability and excellent concurrent validity in measuring step rate during treadmill running, making it a viable tool for both research and practical applications in sports and exercise science.
