- Etik är ett brett och angeläget ämne som engagerar forskare inom teologin, filosofin och samhällsdisciplinerna. Inte minst under Professor Carl-Henric Grenholms tid som ämnesföreträdare har etikforskningen i Uppsala haft en sådan bredd. Som en replik på Carl-Henric Grenholms bestående insatser har ett flertal forskare från Europa och USA bidragit med artiklar till denna hyllningsskrift.Tre områden har fått illustrera hans mångåriga engagemang som forskare och lärare: etisk teori, socialetik samt teologi och etik. Här analyseras frågor om religion och moral, människovärde, praktiskt förnuft, tolerans, sexualitet och lagring av kärnavfall. Antologin rymmer ett brett spektrum av artiklar skrivna med varje forskareseget temperament och stil. De bildar tillsammans ett smakprov på de områden som under några decennier präglat Carl-Henric Grenholms forskning.

- In April 1919, the publication of the first part of the edited collection Det andliga nutidsläget och kyrkan ("The Contemporary Spiritual Condition and the Church") caused an intense debate within the Church of Sweden and in the daily press. The editors of the book were driven by ideals of open and honest dialogue about religious and ethical reformation in a time of deep spiritual distress and invited contributions from academia and lay people as well as clergy. Some of the contributions have been analyzed in previous research, as examples of contemporary theological debates. This article presents an analysis of the contributions of the books and of the most salient themes in the debate, covering 192 newspaper articles between April 1919 and May 1920. The analysis contributes to previous research by the additional new material concerning how theological issues were connected to contemporary political and cultural debate. This concerns the implications of modernization in contemporary Sweden, such as individualization, social justice, and secularization. Furthermore, the debate in the newspapers, previously not thoroughly researched, highlights how the book became a locus for issues such as participation of the laity in theological debate, and the role of the Church as a public authority in a secular, modernized society. These themes present fruitful openings for further research on the role of Christian actors in new forms of public debate shaping modernity in Sweden.

- The journalistic practice is permeated by ethical issues. Central concerns in this dissertation are to question the validity of different forms of professional ethics, and to discuss how to deal with moral issues internal to journalism, such as how to understand truth, consideration or justice. In this regard the analysis contains arguments for ethics and morals in relation to a theoretical understanding of value. The dissertation concludes with an outline for a holistic position, which is based on assent to realism and a hermeneutic interpretation of morals. The conclusion also contains a normative position concerning professional ethics for journalists.The dissertation has a five-fold purpose. The first is to analyze the official framework for professional ethics amongst journalists. This is accomplished by a discussion of two mass media theories, namely the theory of consequential neutrality and the theory of social responsibility, and also by an analysis of the official Code of Ethics for the Press, Radio and Television. This model for professional ethics is called a Model for Regulative Ethics. A second purpose is to investigate the journalists’ apprehensions and their professional morals in relation to their practice through an empirical qualitative investigation amongst ten news journalists. The third purpose is to develop my own criteria for a valid professional ethics. The fourth is to compare and examine three models for professional ethics of another kind than a regulative model. These are a Model of Virtue Ethics, a Model of Responsibility and a Model of Vocation. The fifth purpose is to present an alternative model of a professional ethics amongst journalists. This is called a Model of Holism.
