  • A Federated Interactive Learning IoT-Based Health Monitoring Platform
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: New Trends in Database and Information Systems. - Cham : Springer. ; , s. 235-246, s. 235-246
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Remote health monitoring is a trend for better health management which necessitates the need for secure monitoring and privacy-preservation of patient data. Moreover, accurate and continuous monitoring of personal health status may require expert validation in an active learning strategy. As a result, this paper proposes a Federated Interactive Learning IoT-based Health Monitoring Platform (FIL-IoT-HMP) which incorporates multi-expert feedback as ‘Human-in-the-loop’ in an active learning strategy in order to improve the clients’ Machine Learning (ML) models. The authors have proposed an architecture and conducted an experiment as a proof of concept. Federated learning approach has been preferred in this context given that it strengthens privacy by allowing the global model to be trained while sensitive data is retained at the local edge nodes. Also, each model’s accuracy is improved while privacy and security of data has been upheld.

  • A new approach to mathematical morphology on one dimensional sampled signals
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 23rd International Conference on Pattern Recognition ICPR 2016. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE Communications Society. - 9781509048472 ; , s. 3904-3909
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a new approach to approximate continuous-domain mathematical morphology operators. The approach is applicable to irregularly sampled signals. We define a dilation under this new approach, where samples are duplicated and shifted according to the flat, continuous structuring element. We define the erosion by adjunction, and the opening and closing by composition. These new operators will significantly increase precision in image measurements. Experiments show that these operators indeed approximate continuous-domain operators better than the standard operators on sampled one-dimensional signals, and that they may be applied to signals using structuring elements smaller than the distance between samples. We also show that we can apply the operators to scan lines of a two-dimensional image to filter horizontal and vertical linear structures.

  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Computer Vision – ACCV 2016 Workshops. - Cham : Springer. - 9783319544267 - 9783319544274 ; , s. 506-520
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper introduces a new operator that can be used to ap-proximate continuous-domain mathematical morphology on irregularly sampled surfaces. We define a new way of approximating the continuous domain dilation by duplicating and shifting samples according to a flat continuous structuring element. We show that the proposed algorithm can better approximate continuous dilation, and that dilations may be sampled irregularly to achieve a smaller sampling without greatly com-promising the accuracy of the result.

  • ExPLoIT : exploiting past location information and transitivity for positioning in mobile sensor networks
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: 2nd International Conference on Communication Systems Software and Middleware, 2007. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE Communications Society. - 1424406145
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a novel distributed range-free technique called ExPLoIT for estimating geographical location of sensor nodes in mobile sensor networks. ExPLoIT is the first positioning technique that exploits location information at regular nodes in addition to using seeds. The key idea is the notion of confidence that a node has in its location estimate which can be used by other nodes for localization. Using Monte Carlo integration, a node estimates its current location and confidence based on its past location and the location information it receives from its neighbors. Node mobility is exploited to transitively localize the network. Our extensive simulation study shows that our proposal outperforms three other state-of-the-art range-free localization techniques under a wide range of conditions. The strength of ExPLoIT is that it is robust to irregular radio propagation, arbitrary seed and node density, and stochastic seed and node mobility; no special hardware is necessary at sensor nodes.

  • Fluid chemistry of the hypozonal Fäboliden orogenic gold deposit, northern Sweden
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: The 27th Nordic Geological Winter Meeting, January 9-12, 2006, Oulu, Finland. ; , s. 13-
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Southwest of the well-known Skellefte District in northern Sweden a new ore province is presently being explored, the so called Gold Line. Today the largest known gold deposit in the Gold Line is the Fäboliden orogenic gold deposit. The gold mineralization is commonly hosted in quartz veins, which parallel the steep main foliation, within a shear zone in the metagreywacke host rocks. The fine-grained (2-40 μm) gold is closely associated with arsenopyrite in the quartz veins. Two main groups of fluid inclusions are present in the Fäboliden quartz veins. 1) Primary inclusions with a CO2-CH4 or a H2S (±CH4) composition (the latter recognized for the first time in a Swedish ore deposit). 2) Secondary fluid inclusions composed of pure CH4 and low-salinity aqueous fluids. The primary fluid inclusions are associated with arsenopyrite (+gold) and the CO2-CH4 fluid was also involved in precipitation of graphite. The graphite-forming reactions should generate a H2O phase as well. However, the presence of a H2O phase was not detected in any of the primary fluid inclusions and is suggested to have been consumed by wall rock reactions, generating hydrated alteration minerals such as Ca-amphibole, biotite, and minor tourmaline. Fluid inclusion data indicate arsenopyrite and graphite deposition at a pressure condition of ~4 kbars. Graphite is useful as an indicator of the metamorphic grade because the graphitization process is irreversible with no effects on the graphite structure during retrogression (Beyssac et al., 2002). Graphite in the mineralized quartz veins at Fäboliden indicates maximum temperatures of 520-560°C for the hydrothermal alteration system.Pyrrhotite was deposited after a subsequent pressure decrease and a later input of pure CH4 and low-salinity aqueous fluids, as suggested by the secondary fluid inclusions. These later fluids were trapped at a substantially lower pressure of ~0.3 kbars and a temperature of ~400°C.
