  • Extra-adaptive robust online subspace tracker for anomaly detection from streaming networks
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Engineering applications of artificial intelligence. - Oxford : Elsevier. - 0952-1976 .- 1873-6769. ; 94
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Anomaly detection in time-evolving networks has many applications, for instance, traffic analysis in transportation networks and intrusion detection in computer networks. One group of popular methods for anomaly detection from evolving networks are robust online subspace trackers. However, these methods suffer from problem of insensitivity to drastic changes in the evolving subspace. In order to solve this problem, we propose a new robust online subspace and anomaly tracker, which is more adaptive and robust against sudden drastic changes in the subspace. More accurate estimation of low rank and sparse components by this tracker leads to more accurate anomaly detection. We evaluate the accuracy of our method with real-world dynamic network data sets with varying sparsity levels. The result is promising and our method outperforms the state-of-the-art.

    • Ideas about self and identity being illusions have been around for a long time in both Eastern and Western philosophies and psychologies. In this article, I trace the concept of there being no independent self (separate from conscious experience) from its ancient roots in the philosophies of Heraclitus and the Buddha through the Age of Enlightenment (David Hume) to modern times (William James, the Dalai Lama). In sport and exercise psychology, substantial interest has grown in mindfulness practices with little attention paid to its original goal in Buddhism of the realization of no-self. The question is, however, what might be the usefulness of these concepts about the illusory nature of the self and identity in the world of sport and exercise psychology service? © 2020 The Author(s). • ROC : A Reconfigurable Optical Computer for Simulating Physical Processes
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: ACM Transactions on Parallel Computing. - New York, NY : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 2329-4949 .- 2329-4957. ; 7:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Due to the end of Moore’s law and Dennard scaling, we are entering a new era of processors. Computing systems are increasingly facing power and performance challenges due to both device- and circuit-related challenges with resistive and capacitive charging. Non-von Neumann architectures are needed to support future computations through innovative post-Moore’s law architectures. To enable these emerging architectures with high-performance and at ultra-low power, both parallel computation and inter-node communication on-the-chip can be supported using photons. To this end, we introduce ROC, a reconfigurable optical computer that can solve partial differential equations (PDEs). PDE solvers form the basis for many traditional simulation problems in science and engineering that are currently performed on supercomputers. Instead of solving problems iteratively, the proposed engine uses a resistive mesh architecture to solve a PDE in a single iteration (one-shot). Instead of using actual electrical circuits, the physical underlying hardware emulates such structures using a silicon-photonics mesh that splits light into separate pathways, allowing it to add or subtract optical power analogous to programmable resistors. The time to obtain the PDE solution then only depends on the time-of-flight of a photon through the programmed mesh, which can be on the order of 10’s of picoseconds given the millimeter-compact integrated photonic circuit. Numerically validated experimental results show that, over multiple configurations, ROC can achieve several orders of magnitude improvement over state-of-the-art GPUs when speed, power, and size are taken into account. Further, it comes within approximately 90% precision of current numerical solvers. As such, ROC can be a viable reconfigurable, approximate computer with the potential for more precise results when replacing silicon-photonics building blocks with nanoscale photonic lumped-elements. © 2020 ACM

    • Successful dying. Later life strategies to cope with the finiteness of life. This article aims to explore how older people relate to the finiteness of life. Unlike many other similar studies, this study focuses on older people outside palliative care and residential care, those who are still active and engaged in society. When, and in what ways do finiteness of life become apparent to them in their everyday lives? What strategies do they use to manage awareness of the finiteness of life? In 2015, data was collected via six focus group occasions with people aged 69–90. The result show that finiteness of life was something that all respondents were occupied with almost daily and in several ways. In most cases with ambiguity and even fear for the uncertainty of the future, but also with a feeling that the awareness of finitude made the present more valuable. Death was manifested in the respondents’ everyday lives, as something to be postponed, planned and administered by the types of self-disciplining techniques that are significant for successful ageing. I therefore conclude that these norms and techniques of successful ageing have expand into the field of ways of practice dying and thereby, become norms and techniques of successful dying.

  • Metabolic factors associated to clinical hand osteoarthritis in individuals with knee pain
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases. - London : BMJ Publishing Group Ltd. - 0003-4967 .- 1468-2060. ; 79:Suppl. 1, s. 1734-1734
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: There is some evidence supporting associations between metabolic factors, clinical hand osteoarthritis (OA) and radiographic knee OA. However, more studies are needed regarding early knee OA.Objectives: The aim was to study associations between metabolic factors and clinical hand OA at baseline in a cohort of individuals with knee pain, with and without radiographic knee OA.Methods: In an ongoing five-year longitudinal study of knee pain, hand OA was assessed by clinical examinations in 296 of the included individuals at baseline [1]. BMI, waist circumference (WC) and blood pressure was measured. Body composition was assessed with Inbody 770. Fasting plasma glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, HDL-and LDL-cholesterol and HbA1c was analysed. Metabolic syndrome (MetS)was present if central obesity (WC ≥94 cm in men and ≥80cm in women) plus any two of the following factors: raised blood pressure (systolic blood pressure ≥ 130 or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 85 mm Hg or treatment of hypertension), raised triglycerides (≥ 1.7 mmol/L or specific treatment), reduced HDL-cholesterol (men < 1.03 mmol/L and women < 1.29 mmol/L or specific treatment), raised glucose (glucose ≥ 5.6 mmol/L, or type 2 diabetes). Hand strength and self-reported disability of the arm, shoulder and hand (quickDASH) was assessed. The individuals were divided according to having clinical hand OA or not, according to Altman [1]. The associations between background factors and clinical hand OA were calculated by crude logistic regression analyses, adjusting for age and sex. Results: Fifty-five percent of the individuals in the study was overweight or obese, 40% had MetS and 23% had radiographic knee OA. In total 34% of the individuals had clinical hand OA. The group with hand OA were older, had higher proportion of body fat, fasting plasma glucose, HbA1C, worse quickDASH score and lower hand strength, table 1. Clinical hand OA was significantly associated to higher age (OR 1.04, 95%CI 1.01-1.07), higher fasting plasma glucose (1.56, 1.05-2.30), worse quickDASH (1.04, 1.02-1.06) and lower hand strength (0.99, 0.99 -0.998), but not to proportion of body fat and HbA1c.Conclusion: In this cross-sectional study, the only metabolic factor associated with clinical hand OA was fasting plasma glucose. Contrary to other studies, there were no gender differences found. The association between development of clinical hand OA and metabolic factors in individuals with knee pain need to be further assessed in longitudinal studies.

    • Metabolic factors have been shown to be associated to radiographic knee osteoarthritis (OA) [1]. More knowledge about associations between metabolic factors and early clinical knee OA is needed. Objectives:The aim was to study associations between metabolic factors and radiographic knee OA in individuals with knee painMethods:In total 272 individuals with radiographs at baseline, from an ongoing longitudinal study of knee pain (without cruciate ligament injury), were included in the present cross-sectional study. At baseline BMI, waist circumference (WC) and visceral fat area (VFA) were assessed. Fasting plasma glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, HDL-and LDL-cholesterol were analysed. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) was present if central obesity (WC ≥94 cm in men and ≥80cm in women) plus any two of the following factors: raised blood pressure (systolic blood pressure ≥ 130 or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 85 mm Hg or treatment of hypertension), raised triglycerides (≥ 1.7 mmol/L or specific treatment), reduced HDL-cholesterol (men < 1.03 mmol/L and women < 1.29 mmol/L or specific treatment), raised glucose (glucose ≥ 5.6 mmol/L, or type 2 diabetes). The individuals were divided in two groups according to Ahlbäck [2], one group, who had grade I or more in at least one knee (radiographic knee OA, ROA) n=62 and the other group, not fulfilling Ahlbäck criteria (no radiograhic knee OA, No OA) n=211. The associations between metabolic factors and knee OA were calculated by crude logistic regression analyses, adjusting for age and sex. Results:The group with radiographic knee OA were older, had higher BMI, higher amount of visceral fat and more had central obesity, table 1. Ninety- four percent of the group with ROA had central obesity compared to 76%, p=0.002 in the no OA group. There was no difference between the groups regarding MetS, 44% in the ROA group vs. 39%, p=0.5. The group with ROA had increased cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL-cholesterol. There were no differences in fasting glucose between the groups, though both groups had a mean glucose value in the upper range of normal value, table 1. Factors associated to having radiographic knee OA were age (OR 1.11, 95% CI 1.06-1.17), BMI (1.07, 1.003-1.13), central obesity (3.91, 1.32-11.61) and raised triglycerides (2.35, 1.03-5.38).Table 1.Baseline descriptivesNo OAMean (sd)ROAMean(sd)p-valueN21162Age50 (9)56 (4)<0.001Sex, women, %66710.454BMI25.9 (4.7)27.7 (4.7)0.007VFA (cm2)109 (53)126 (52)0.026WC, cm94 (13)99 (13)0.006Raised Blood pressure, %66530.063Cholesterol (mmol/L)5.2 (1.0)5.5 (1.1)0.033Triglycerides (mmol/L)1.0 (0.6)1.2 (0.7)0.035Raised triglycerides, %9210.008LDL-cholesterol (mmol/L)3.4 (1.0)3.7 (1.1)0.027HDL-cholesterol (mmol/L)1.7 (0.4)1.7 (0.5)0.547Reduced HDL11150.460Glucose (mmol/L)5.5 (0.9)5.5 (0.5)0.858Conclusion:There were associations between some metabolic factors and radiographic knee OA in individuals with knee pain. • How do mature born globals create customer value to achieve international growth?
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Marketing Review. - Bingley : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 0265-1335 .- 1758-6763. ; 37:2, s. 185-211
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – This study aims to investigate how mature born global firms create value for customers to achieve continued international growth.Design/methodology/approach – The study employs a case study approach to investigate the underresearched area of how mature born globals create value for customers and, by doing so, contribute to their continued international growth. This in-depth examination of how three born globals developed over time uses interviews, observation and secondary data.Findings – The findings indicate that the entrepreneurs of born global firms, that continued to grow, created a culture in the early stages that supported value creation for foreign customers. These firms have built a competitive position by developing international niche products. They have also implemented a combination of proactive and reactive market orientation to facilitate the creation and delivery of value to customers. To maintain growth, they further invest the revenues earned on additional international marketing activities and continuously enhance their focal products.Research limitations/implications – The study relies on three cases. We therefore recommend that future studies extend the scope of the research to several companies in various industries and countries, in which the theoretical arguments can be applied. In addition, further studies that test the propositions developed in this study, in different contexts, are highly recommended.Practical implications – To gain international growth, managers should create an organizational culture that facilitates satisfying international customer needs. Firms should continuously invest in sales and market development (e.g. social media marketing, personal selling) and undertake technology development of niche rather than new products. To achieve international growth, managers need to standardize part of the offer to achieve economies of scale and adapt the other part to international customers’ needs.Originality/value – Research on born globals has focused on the early stages of their internationalization processes, while largely neglecting the later stages (mature born globals) or the factors that lead to continued international growth. To address this gap, this study explores what happens when born globals ‘grow up’. This study contributes to the literature by capturing the factors and processes underlying how mature born globals create value for customers, for international growth. In particular, the study shows that the culture and strategies developed in the born globals’ early stages also lead to international growth in later stages. The mature born globals have also invested in niche products, brand building, and effective market channels and adopted a combination of proactive and reactive market orientations.

  • A Novel Risk Indicator for Cut-In Situations
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: 2020 IEEE 23rd International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems, ITSC 2020. - Piscataway, NJ : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9781728141497 - 9781728141503
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cut-in situations occurs when a vehicle intentionally changes lane and ends up in front of another vehicle or in-between two vehicles. In such situations, having a method to indicate the collision risk prior to making the cut-in maneuver could potentially reduce the number of sideswipe and rear end collisions caused by the cut-in maneuvers. This paper propose a new risk indicator, namely cut-in risk indicator (CRI), as a way to indicate and potentially foresee collision risks in cut-in situations. As an example use case, we applied CRI on data from a driving simulation experiment involving a manually driven vehicle and an automated platoon in a highway merging situation. We then compared the results with time-to-collision (TTC), and suggest that CRI could correctly indicate collision risks in a more effective way. CRI can be computed on all vehicles involved in the cut-in situations, not only for the vehicle that is cutting in. Making it possible for other vehicles to estimate the collision risk, for example if a cut-in from another vehicle occurs, the surrounding vehicles could be warned and have the possibility to react in order to potentially avoid or mitigate accidents.
