  • Mapping flows - An analysis of the information flows within the integrated supply chain
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Challenging boundaries with logistics. - : NOFOMA. - 9173739855 ; , s. 18-
  • Bokkapitel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Information sharing is an important factor for cooperating within an integrated supply chain. This paper presents a methodology for mapping information flows in an integrated supply chain and a case study, using the mapping methodology, from two Swedish multinational organizations. Eight cases where used in a retro perspective way to map, describe and analyze the information flow, which supports the physical material flow, from receiving an order to the point of delivery. This paper also describes two types of information flows: Direct information and indirect information. The case study presented in this paper focus on the direct information. The present study indicates the importance of an integrated, updated and smoothly operating information system. The complexity and the performance of the information flow and the physical material flow within each case where also analyzed from three main perspectives: 1) the right information, 2) at the right time, 3) to the right place. Over 30 semi-structured interviews have been made to map and describe the information and physical material flow. Key personnel involved in the process from order to point of delivery where interviewed. One conclusion of the study is that three types of disturbances was domination the cases: 1) Procedures to handle changes in an order from a customer, 2) lack of information within the internal supply chain, and 3) Procedures to handle information about delays in internal production or wrong material delivered.

  • Children’s Social Relations in Peer Groups : Inclusion, exclusion and friendship
  • 2004
  • Rapport (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • We set up six media clubs for refugee and migrant children (ages 10-14) in six European countries. The clubs met weekly after school hours over a year with some extra full days during school holidays. The clubs made videos and exchanged them on the internet. In each participating country, researchers and media educators employed by the project collaborated with youth workers and teachers, already working with the children. The clubs became social centres as well as a place to learn about and make media. Using the internet we established a communications network to facilitate the sharing of children’s media productions, in order to generate dialogues between them. As a research project CHICAM addressed three major aspects of structural change in contemporary European society: the increase in global migration, the uses of new communication technologies, and the specifi c needs of children. Through the work of the clubs it focused on the social and cultural worlds of refugee and migrant children in centres across Europe; and was mainly concerned with fi rst generation refugees or migrants, for whom the experience of re-location is relatively recent. The children came from many different countries including Iraq, Sierra Leone, Angola, Somalia, Albania, Kosovo, Columbia, Turkey. We investigated how these children represent and express their experiences of migration into the different host countries, and how their use of new media might enable their perspectives to inform the development of European educational and cultural policies. In the process, we were seeking to identify how particular experiences of reception, educational practice, family re-unifi cation and community involvement may more effectively promote social inclusion and economic and cultural integration.

  • DSL Implementation in MetaOCaml, Template Haskell, and C+
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Domain-Specific Program Generation. - Berlin : Springer Berlin/Heidelberg. - 9783540221197 - 9783540259350 ; , s. 51-72
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A wide range of domain-specific languages (DSLs) has been implemented successfully by embedding them in general purpose languages. This paper reviews embedding, and summarizes how two alternative techniques - staged interpreters and templates - can be used to overcome the limitations of embedding. Both techniques involve a form of generative programming. The paper reviews and compares three programming languages that have special support for generative programming. Two of these languages (MetaOCaml and Template Haskell) are research languages, while the third (C++) is already in wide industrial use. The paper identifies several dimensions that can serve as a basis for comparing generative languages.

  • Recognition of similarities (ROS): A methodological approach to analysing and characterising patterns of daily occupations
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Journal of Occupational Science. - Melbourne : Taylor & Francis. - 1442-7591 .- 2158-1576. ; 11:1, s. 3-13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It has been proposed that patterns of daily occupations that promote health or cause illness should be possible to identify. By describing patterns as consisting of main, hidden, and unexpected occupations, this study aimed to develop and to evaluate a process for analysing and characterising subjectively perceived patterns of daily occupations. Yesterday diaries describing one day of 100 working married mothers were collected through interviews. The diaries were transformed into time-and-occupation graphs. An analysis based on visual interpretation of the patterns was performed. The graphs were grouped into the categories low, medium, or high complexity. In order to identify similarities the graphs were then compared both pair-wise and group-wise. Finally, the complexity and the similarities perspectives were integrated, identifying the most typical patterns of daily occupations representing low, medium, and high complexity. The visual differences in complexity were evident. However, in order to validate the ROS process developed, a measure expressing the probability of change was computed and was found to differ statistically significantly between the three groups, supporting the validity of the ROS process.

  • The Relationships of Hassles and Uplifts to Experience of Health in Working Women
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Women & health. - Philadelphia, PA : Routledge. - 0363-0242 .- 1541-0331. ; 38:4, s. 19-37
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Swedish women are more ill than men are, often explained by women's heavier total workload. A balanced pattern of daily occupations is believed to promote health. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of aspects of the pattern of daily occupations and lifestyle factors to working mothers' health and well-being, and whether control influenced any relationships. One hundred working, cohabiting mothers took part in semi-structured interviews targeting health and well-being, control, lifestyle variables, and hassles and uplifts in the pattern of daily occupations. All variables were dichotomised according to a median cut and subjected to logistic regression analyses. Working more and having a university diploma were found to be risk factors for experiencing more hassles. Risk factors for fewer uplifts were having more than two children and fewer leisure occupations. Experiencing less control constituted a risk of low self-rated health and with an additional high level of hassles impacted on the experience of well-being. © 2003 The Haworth Press, Inc. • Efficient Many-to-Many Real-Time Communication Using an Intelligent Ethernet Switch
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 7th International Symposium on Parallel Architectures, Algorithms and Networks, 2004. - Piscataway, N.J. : IEEE. - 0769521355 ; , s. 280-287
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a solution for efficient many-to-many communication over switched Ethernet. The performance of using an ordinary switch and an intelligent switch is compared, and the results of the analysis based on 100 Mbit/s fast Ethernet show that an intelligent switch used to handle many-to-many communication can give better performance (shorter latency and higher utilization) than an ordinary switch. We also extend the network to serve many-to-many traffic with real-time demands by adding a thin software layer to the intelligent Ethernet switch and the end-nodes. Earliest deadline first (EDF) scheduling is used.
