  • Longitudinal associations between perceived programme quality, basic needs support and basic needs satisfaction within youth sport : A person-centred approach
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology. - New York : Taylor & Francis. - 1612-197X .- 1557-251X. ; 18:1, s. 76-92
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Acknowledging the importance of longitudinal data to test process-based psychological theories of motivation is critical. The purpose of this study was to use a person-centred approach to identify unique subgroups (i.e. profiles) of youth athletes based on their level of self-reported programme quality (PQ) and basic needs support mid-way through their sport season and investigate potential differences between the subgroups on their self-reported basic needs satisfaction at the end of the sport season. The current study involved 541 Canadian youth athletes (males n = 289; females n = 250; gender-fluid n = 2) within 52 sport programmes over the course of 18 months. Youthathletes ranged in age from 8 through 19 (M = 13.76, SD = 2.61). A latent profile analysis (LPA) in Mplus 8.0 was used to carry out the analyses. The LPA revealed three distinct profiles based on youth athletes’ levels of self-reported PQ and basic needs support. Specifically, athletes who perceived their sport experience to be of higher quality and supported their basic psychological needs midway through the sport season also reported higher levels of basic needs satisfaction at season end. Results from this study contribute to the field of sport psychology through understanding how basic needs theory contributes to the dimensions of programme quality and by informing recommendations for future coach education on how to satisfy youth athletes’ basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness through programmedelivery. © 2018 International Society of Sport Psychology

  • Forensic Authorship Analysis of Microblogging Texts Using N -Grams and Stylometric Features
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: 2020 8th International Workshop on Biometrics and Forensics (IWBF). - Piscataway : IEEE. - 9781728162331
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent years, messages and text posted on the Internet are used in criminal investigations. Unfortunately, the authorship of many of them remains unknown. In some channels, the problem of establishing authorship may be even harder, since the length of digital texts is limited to a certain number of characters. In this work, we aim at identifying authors of tweet messages, which are limited to 280 characters. We evaluate popular features employed traditionally in authorship attribution which capture properties of the writing style at different levels. We use for our experiments a self-captured database of 40 users, with 120 to 200 tweets per user. Results using this small set are promising, with the different features providing a classification accuracy between 92% and 98.5%. These results are competitive in comparison to existing studies which employ short texts such as tweets or SMS. ©2020 IEEE

  • Home, safe home : Cross-country monitoring framework for vulnerabilities in the residential real estate sector
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Banking & Finance. - Amsterdam : Elsevier. - 0378-4266 .- 1872-6372. ; 112
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents and assesses a framework for monitoring vulnerabilities related to the residential real estate sector, which can be easily employed for policy purposes. The framework provides intuitive and transparent early warning signals through a composite vulnerability measure, which aggregates indicators in a model-free way across three dimensions of real estate sector vulnerabilities (i.e. valuation, household indebtedness and the bank credit cycle). Our vulnerability measure proves to be a significant predictor of historical real estate crises, with a better forecasting performance than the majority of advantageously in-sample calibrated model-based measures. © 2018 Elsevier B.V.

  • Macroprudential policy in the EU : A political economy perspective
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Global Finance Journal. - Amsterdam : Elsevier. - 1044-0283 .- 1873-5665. ; 46
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In response to the lessons of the global financial crisis, macroprudential policy is now firmly established as a financial policy area to prevent excessive risk taking in the financial sector and mitigate its effects on the real economy. However, macroprudential policy is facing several challenges relating to its political sensitivity and institutional context. These include political and interest group resistance, weaknesses in the governance framework, and limited institutional memory among policy makers. This article seeks to contribute to the contextual understanding of macroprudential policy by exploring how factors relating to these challenges influence policy in the EU. More specifically, it develops and empirically tests a number of hypotheses on how wider institutional and structural factors influence the actual use of macroprudential measures across Europe. The findings yield considerable support for theoretical predictions that institutions and contexts matter - Political pressure and interest group resistance tend to influence the intensity of macroprudential policy stances. Weaker policy stances characterise countries where banking systems depend on domestic banks, whereas the opposite holds for financial systems with significant market shares of other financial intermediaries. Results on institutional arrangements show that governance arrangements on relating to transparency influence policy stances. The results also indicate that policy makers' inertia is best counteracted by appointing a single macroprudential authority. The results differ somewhat depending on whether countries are based in the Euro zone or not. This suggests that policy frameworks that are multi-layered and complex pose tricky conundrums on how to ensure sufficient institutional autonomy, policy capacity and discretion among macroprudential authorities. This also has implications on other policy areas macroprudential policy, such as microprudential policy, crisis management and fiscal policy. © 2019 Elsevier Inc.

  • The organization of club football in Denmark – a contemporary profile
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Soccer & Society. - Abingdon : Routledge. - 1466-0970 .- 1743-9590. ; 21:5, s. 551-571
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article provides an understanding of the organization of Danish club football, including both grassroots and professional activities. We do this by analysing how it has developed and how it relates to four basic social orders viewed as ideal types; civil society, market, state and associations. Our study is grounded in document analysis, a questionnaire survey and existing knowledge of sports clubs and, in particular, football clubs. Our findings show how Danish football is a game that operates between these social orders. We highlight four unique traits: firstly, the existence of an overall formal, bureaucratic, non-profit, rather autonomous associative decentral democratic structure; secondly, a high number of non-profit, democratically organized grassroots clubs of different sizes spread around the country; thirdly, late professionalism; and fourthly, the creation of a certain business model of professional Danish football. © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

  • Material & Surface design methodology-the user study framework
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Surface Topography-Metrology and Properties. - Bristol : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 2051-672X. ; 8:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A material and surface selection within the car industry is usually based on a comprehensive study based on sensation and perception, focusing on particular perceived qualities and impressions (emotional functions) through visual and tactile interaction of plastic surfaces. On top of that 'emotional function', the 'technical function' such as surface roughness or gloss for a certain matter in symbiosis, will result in a number of material and surface proposals. The range of materials fitting into the window of these requirements varies depending on the industry's ability to hit the target specified in regard to the 'emotional functions', usually defined by the designer's intention. Thus, to be able to get a deeper understanding of how to frame the 'emotional functions' and link them to the 'technical functions', two user studies were made in this paper. The user studies were made with two different designs however with the same main research target to be able to understand the varieties of these two. The aim of doing so was to be able to find the user study design that was the most time efficient and providing the most significant data linked to the 'technical functions' and process control/traceability. However also finding the user study design with the least strains for the participating users in regard to uninterrupted brain activity. By designing the user study in relevant subsets in a certain sequence, user study design nr 2 has proven to be more time efficient and provide more data regarding the soft metrology. Future work will focus on deeper knowledge about how these surfaces different material- and surface properties correlate to the participants responses regarding perceived quality of a car interior design. The development of a new non-contact measurement is also discussed, enabling the possibility to complement and improve the hard metrology set up.

  • The academic entrepreneurship ecosystem : The role of the university for societal impact of academic spin-offs
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Research Handbook on Start-Up Incubation Ecosystems. - Cheltenham : Edward Elgar Publishing. - 9781788973533 - 9781788973526 ; , s. 381-401
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Policy makers and scholars assume that academic spin-offs, which are firms commercializing university knowledge, grow financially and contribute to economic development. However, a few studies have recently discovered that these firms also create societal impact. This study develops a conceptual framework of the academic entrepreneurship ecosystem and in particular the role of the university in creating societal impact of academic spin-offs. This study employs a case study design of academic spin-offs and firms spinning off from universities and research institutes, in Norway. The results show that the ecosystem and the university are key actors together with business actors in creating societal impact of academic spin-offs. These interactions create a system of societal development. The study extends research on academic entrepreneurship ecosystems and societal impact. Research and policy implications are provided. © Adam Novotny, Einar Rasmussen, Tommy H. Clausen and Johan Wiklund 2020.

  • Hearing, Seeing, Experiencing : Perspective Taking and Emotional Engagement through the Vocalisation of Jane Eyre, Heart of Darkness and Things fall apart
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Language Studies. - Ipswich, MA : EBSCO Publishing. - 2157-4898 .- 2157-4901. ; 14:1, s. 63-88
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Readers’ emotional engagement with fiction is a busy research area situated at the intersection of cognitive, affective and narrative theory. Perspective taking is a feature that cuts across the disciplines since the narrative situation is crucial for communicating experiences of narrators and characters in literary texts. However, what has been explored in less detail is how the vocalisation of print text facilitates an empathetic response due to the expressive impact of the human voice so that narratives may be visualised and experienced in a variety of ways. Within audionarratology, the concept of voice is undergoing a redefinition since it ceases to be textually mediated and can be experienced directly. Audiobook narration is a case in point. In the present study it is argued that empathy is a mediating agency that resides in the vocalisation of text rather than in the text itself. For the purpose of exploring this phenomenon, a pilot study was carried out. Three canonical English texts that had previously been studied in their entirety in print by a group of students were accessed in part in a remediated audio format. The listening experiment showed that the individual voice profile of each of the narrating actors had a significant impact on perspective taking and emotional engagement. © 2020 IJLS; Printed in the USA by Lulu Press Inc.
