- The shale gas and oil revolution has unexpectedly and forcefully begun to change the energy landscape in the United States. It is expected to spread beyond the US, with far reaching implications for the global energy map, but also for themacro-economy and politics ofmany countries. The purpose of this paper is to bring a better understanding to what prompted the revolution, to assess the production methods and associated environmental concerns, to speculate what can reasonably be expected in coming decades, and to sketch the full impact of a ripening shale revolution on the emerging economic and political policy choices for energy exporting and importing countries.We find that a large scale expansion can be expected in US shale gas and oil activities in the coming two decades. Globally, the shale leaders are likely to be countries that are already significant gas and oil producers. Setting up a policy framework to allow and promote shale development in a safe manner is a necessity for the launch of shale exploitation. The most important implication of a successful shale revolution would arguably be a downward pressure on gas and coal prices in regional markets and on the global oil price.

- Summary. Eustachy Zylinski was a Polish mathematician, working in number theory, algebra, logicand foundations of mathematics. He has written over 20 scientific papers and academic text-bookin analytic geometry, and, jointly with Stanisław Ruziewicz, one academic text-book and theother text-book for secondary schools. In the period 1919-1939 he was working at the Universityof Jan Kazimierz in Lvov and was a memeber of the so-called Lvov School of Mathematics. After the war, in the period 1946-1951 he was working at the Silesian University of Technologyin Gliwice. His life and scientific achievements are carefully described in [Ma09].Here I present a shorter version of the description, completing information on Gliwice periodEustachy Zylinski był polskim matematykiem pracujacym w teorii liczb, algebrze, logice i podstawach matematyki. Napisał ponad 20 prac naukowych, podrecznik akademicki z geometrii analitycznej oraz wspólnie ze Stanisławem Ruziewiczem, podrecznik akademicki i trzyczesciowy podrecznik szkolny. W latach 1919-1939 pracował na Uniwersytecie Jana Kazimierza we Lwowie i był członkiem tzw. Lwowskiej Szkoły Matematycznej. Po wojnie w latach 1946-1951 pracował w Gliwicach na Politechnice Slaskiej. Zycie i dorobek naukowy, wraz z pełnym spisem prac naukowych oraz ksiazek Zylinskiego, zostały dokładnie opisane w pracy [Ma09]. Tutaj przedstawiam krótsza wersj{e tego opisu, ale uzupełniam wiadomosci o okres gliwicki.

- Summary. Meir (Maks) Eidelheit was a Polish mathematician, working in functional analysis. In 1938 he defended his Ph.D. thesis On solvability of systems of linear equations withinfinitely many unknowns at the University of Jan Kazimierz in Lvov under supervision ofStefan Banach, he was a memeber of the so-called Lvov School of Mathematics and visitedsometimes the Scottish Caf\'e. He published 12 scientific papers and his name is known inmathematics for the Eidelheit separation theorem (1936), Eidelheit sequences in Fr\'echetspaces or Eidelheit interpolation theorem (1936) and the Eidelheit theorem concerning ringsof continuous functions (1940). In March 1943 he was killed by the Nazis. His life andscientific achievements are described. Paper finishes with a full list of his scientificpapers.Streszczenie. Meier (Maks) Eidelheit był polskim matematykiem zajmujacym sie analiza funkcjonalna.W 1938 roku obronił, na Uniwersytecie Jana Kazimierza we Lwowie, prace doktorska napisanapod kierunkiem Stefana Banacha i nalezał do członków tzw. Lwowskiej Szkoły Matematycznej.Bywał tez czasami w Kawiarni Szkockiej. Opublikował dwanascie prac naukowych i jego nazwiskoznane jest w matematyce w zwiazku z twierdzeniem Eidelheita o oddzielaniu, ciagami Eidelheitaw przestrzeniach Fr\'echeta oraz twierdzeniem interpolacyjnym Eidelheita i twierdzeniemEidelheita o pierscieniu funkcji ciagłych. W marcu 1943 roku został zamordowany przezhitlerowców.
